.tv SEO Aspects of .TV Domain Name

I recently bought a .TV domain name.
One of my friend who is good at SEO told me that I may not be able to reach the top SERP results due to having .TV as a domain name.
I wish to create a blog on that domain name and hence, I will need Search Enginer traffic too.

So, can anyone tell me whether getting a TV domain as for blog which mainly aims at getting traffic from search engine is a good Idea?

Means, does a TV domain or a .COM domain makes difference?
Surely, .COM is always preferred by Google but we also see some geocities sites and blogspot blogs on top ranking.
So can a TV domain make it to the top?
