Tucows domains being auctioned off via Namejet.com

Anyone else gone through this insanely frustrating experience?

Basically, the names have 'layered' management when you have to go through different hoops to change dns (you have to do this via myhosting.com), get auth code (opensrs.net is where I was told to go) and then, if I wanted to actually UNLOCK the domain and transfer it out, I was told I need to actually email support to tell them to unlock each and every name.

Unbelievable. :(

No wonder snapnames stopped the deal with them.

Yes, I have the same problem with 2 names I won at Namejet. Have you succeeded in transfering out one of your domains? I'm still in the process...

there is a 42 day hold at NameJet before you can transfer out or push - that is what gets annoying for us.

For eNom domains, not Network Solutions names. Yes, the X-fer lock is incredibly annoying, and support is 100% adamant about refusing to break it under any circumstances.

@JeffKang - Sorry to hear the situation has been frustrating. Did you email myhosting.com and did they unlock the domain(s) for you? If not, let me know. Normally, their support team is very fast and helpful.

For the record, Tucows never auctioned off our expired domains with SnapNames. That being said, SnapNames is a great company, and so is NameJet.

@mibworld - Are your names at myhosting.com? If so, let me know how the transfer out goes.

@HuntingMoon - For Tucows expired domains that are sold at NameJet, there are NO transfer out restrictions or holds. Once the domain is moved to myhosting.com, you can do with it as you please, including transfer it away.

@all of you, I've reviewed your feedback here about the post-NameJet process for Tucows expired domains and I will certainly keep your concerns and suggestions in mind as we fine-tune the process.

Finally, thank you for buying these expired names from NameJet and Tucows.

Hi Bill,

Appreciate the response; but weren't all of those names under Hover.com all Tucows names?

In all fairness, support has been quick with the three names I requested to be unlocked today - but my general gripe is the ridiculous process of having to log into separate accounts for EVERY SINGLE domain I own at tucows and then also have to Email support to have my names unlocked?

i guess, opensrs.net is the regsitrar client of opensrs, when myhosting.com is the control penal of the domain. You login myhosting.com with domain and it's manage password.

If you got an user name on orpensrs, you can ask them push the domain to you. Unlock and auth code in same website. However, it seems opensrs is a non-retailing registrar. So you have do them respectively.

FYI

Hi jeffkang, I suppose hover.com is a self-managed reseller by Tucows.

Dear xxxxx xxxxxxx,

Welcome to myhosting.com! This email is to let you know that your Domain Parking account is active, and provides you with some very important information. We highly recommend printing this email off and keeping it for future reference.

First some of your basic account information:

-----------
Customer ID: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Domain Name: xxxxxxxxx.com

Admin Username: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com
Temporary Password: 9bcc5da07d
------------

We offer a control panel for you to use to add features to your domain, make changes to your billing, manage passwords, and to view the knowledge base. To access this please use the information below:

Link: https://support.myhosting.com
Domain Name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com
Temp. Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So the above is the one and ONLY email I get when I win a tucows domain via namejet.

Tucows/Bill; you guys do know that myhosting.com actually controls NOTHING of any particular use to ME, right?

It does not control access to the auth code, unlocking/locking the domain, and the nameservers - I am told that I need to go to opensrs.net to do that. Of course, that is another login/password completely and No, it was not sent to me initially. It is something that I must request.

If you doubt that is recommended to contact them back and ask about that.

@JeffKang Hover is a Tucows reseller, and the expired domains from our resellers flow into NameJet. Tucows did acquire a registrar called It's Your Domain that had an auction relationship with SnapNames, but that auction relationship ended when the domains were moved onto the Tucows registrar platform last year.

Believe me, I hear you about the pain of the multi-step process. On my to-do list is to find ways to address this. In my experience to date, and in speaking to other domainers, the myhosting.com folks have been great about handling these requests. Could the process be improved? Sure it could. At least we are trying to do the best with what we have to work with right now.

@uliss & JeffKang OpenSRS is the Tucows wholesale domain service platform that our resellers, like myhosting.com, use. And manage.opensrs.net is one of the interfaces we offer to them and their customers. How our resellers integrate with OpenSRS is left up to them; we give them lots of choices and don't force any one solution upon them. In myhosting.com's case, they have chosen to let their customers manage certain aspects of their domain via manage.opensrs.net. The seperate password for manage.opensrs.net is intended as a security precaution. But, yes, I realize that is seen as a nuisance by you guys, and I will take into account as I identify improvements to the post-auction process.

You know what would help me help you? If you could, *via email* to me, let me know the list of things (actions/tasks) you want to do with the domain you have won in auction. For instance, I assume you want to:

* unlock domain
* get authcode
* change name servers

Anything else?

Let me know, *via email*, and I will use that feedback in my planning for the next iteration.

Thanks.

I recently bought two names on Namejet registered at Tucows. at first it was frustrating to go from myhosting to opensrs, but they unlocked the domain in less than an hour after I emailed and now both names are already on Godaddy, took 5 days... I can't complain much.
