I bought a domain that I was told was with Tucows. However I just learned Tucows is not a registrar, they act as some kind of middleman and the person who handles the administration (contact with domain owners) is a 'reseller'. I searched the name of this reseller on NP and DNF and it has never been mentioned. I called them and it went straight to voicemail. Very small company!
As I am not a Tucows Reseller the domain could not be pushed to me. The person I bought it from gave me the login information for this domain and I took control of the account. I have now updated the WHOIS and changed the password, and the WHOIS is showing up as my name. I tried to move it to GoDaddy but the transaction failed. Somebody told me it is reglocked for 30 or possibly 60 days?
My real question is this, should I be worried about this small reseller? Do they have the power to take this domain away from me if they wanted to? Or would Tucows not allow that? Is Tucows the one who handles that sort of thing? Has anybody ever been scammed in a situation like this?
Thanks for any and all advice on the matter.
