So, I've recently transferred a bunch of domains to GoDaddy within a few days of having purchased them as pre-release domains on Snapnames and Namejet. They all transferred fine, but I noticed this morning that some received a one year extension while 3 did not. I phoned GoDaddy and was told that sometimes a year does not get added if the transfer takes place within 45 days of a renewal. I never heard of this before, but apparently there's a warning displayed during the purchase process. The rep emailed me the notice, and it reads as follows:
"When you renew your domain name during the 45 day auto-renewal period (.COM/.NET domains), the year you purchased at your previous registrar may be lost if you transfer sooner than 45 days.
The result would be if you transferred during that period, you would, in effect, pay for the same year twice. You may still proceed, but you should be aware of this potential impact.
If you choose not to proceed at this time, please cancel the transfer and provide your Call-in PIN and we will refund the transfer for later re-purchase."
Lesson learned!
