Hello Fellas,

Can anyone help me with this, please?
I often read that a good name may not be worth much, because it is a .net - and traffic will go to the .com of the same name.
While that may seem obvious, when is it worth buying the lesser names, if the .com is unobtainable?
Are there certain fields/categories where this issue is more important than others?

Thanks to any replies.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
There's no specific criteria for when or when not to buy a .net if a .com is registered. It is just up to you. :)

But some things you may want to take into consideration are if the name has traffic, development potential, links coming to it, and things like that. :)

It depends on the Name .
If the name is for your own or is to be marketed ,then .net is a reasonable option
If you expect type-in traffic .com wins hands down
.info Second Maybe choice (especially as add-on)
Case in Point
I regged BareFootTech.net for My own Website as .com Unavailable at time
But I have grabbed the .com since.
It is the Only .net I have although I have several .info's to go with my .com's
As for .Biz I have One (NP$ Auction Right Price)
ditto for .org
.us only makes Sense for me (Aust,) if it fits the Name (NameFor.us) or my .us Name below
