Thanks for pointing this out.

.Top Registry is now working very closely with SSAC(Security and Stability Advisory Committee) and several other abuse domain monitor service providers on fighting abusive domains. We and our registrar partners take down bad domains immediately after the domains are proven abusive. And we also welcome everyone to help reporting abuse to [email protected] anytime. Thanks.

Spam is going to be problematic for new extensions, even those that have low abuse rates will be affected, because they will be tarnished with the same brush unfairly.
Spam projects a bad image to the public.
When sysadmins begin to blacklist new extensions at server level to get rid of the abuse, they are going to become less useful than 'ordinary' domains.
If you can't send E-mail to the outside world because mail servers reject your domain, you have a problem. It's almost as if you had leprosy. When outsiders are telling you that your domain sucks it's pretty serious because it's very unusual.

PS: I'm sure that many webforms still do not recognize new extensions. Most rely on regex validation routines that are broken. For instance IDNs are not usually handled well.

xyz = 7.9% bad (score 0.88)

Looks like .xyz is doing a good job with clean-up.

it's hard to imagine anything beating ".download" for spammer's #1 choice, but looks like .top will do it.

We all knew this would happen. Congratulations to .Top for this dubious distinction. You finally made it to the top. ;)

.top

Domains seen: 431,028
Bad domains: 221,331 (51.3%)

Can you imagine? I mean, think about that for a minute. Over HALF of the e-mail from .Top domains were shown to be "bad" and nothing but spam. 221,331 domains at least.

does that mean that there are 1.5 million top spam domains in the world? That would be quite an achievement. Not so surprising though. When it was launched I heard that domainers were complaining about being spammed by the registry. If the registry was doing it why wouldn't the registrants? One could say that .top has truly mastered the art of spam and helping spammers around the globe to create short meaningful and inexpensive email identities for commercial bulk mailing enterprises.

.xyz started blocking spam domains maybe that is why they are not growing that much anymore and .top is slowly taking their place.

Who does this honestly surprise? I don't think the registry behind it is too concerned either.

I think that highlights the problems with giving away domains below 1$. It's like doing a deal with the devil. Your registration count will increase faster than any other TLD but your brand and reputation might take a hit that will be difficult to recover from even when you are #1. .xyz have the same problems.

Once you are perceived as a spam extension and get blocked the game is over. Hope they manage to avoid this.

Just thought I'd post this:
us = 18.9% bad (score 1.83)
xyz = 8.2% bad (score 0.91)

In some web usage surveys, the presence of .top links in a website's link graph is often an indication that the website has been compromised by a link injection hack aided by an out of date plugin. The promotion of low cost .top registrations has made it attractive for this kind of disposable domain name activity.

Agreed, bound to happen with the sale running for so long too. Once it comes time for regular renewal rates, may help a bit.

The internet is getting upgraded. I think we might need some new software.
