Do we have to see this over and over?

I don't see it personally, but hey, I have been wrong before and that is why I haven't the money to open up a registry and get all those registration fees from domainers!

it cant be the next com... the next com is already xyz..
i read about that in some other thread, guys were swearing so passionately..

The main reason why .top is getting the regs it is getting in China is because it is operated by a Chinese registry. They probably partner with Chinese players to push the extension over there.
I can't see it getting a strong grip in the global market.

I am absolutely convinced that .top will rule the web someday.
Sooner or later this super smart and most universal meaningful TLD is the (psycho)logical answer to the growing surplus of TLDs.

.com has made history
.web will make history
.top will grow groww growww and will finalize all debates ;)

That's how I see it and what I believe.

And although there are many .top critics (the amount of them is clearly decreasing since I've been watching the market) this is, again, how I see it and what I believe - just because 'top' is primarily a synonyme for 'best' and sounds perfect as a 3L TLD - yes, it' so simple.
Of course there are some other reasons for it but those are the core reasons.

So definitely yes, .top will develop the strength to become 'the new .com' someday.
Time will show space.

I actually remember the same kind of comments being made for .net, oh and for .info, come to think of it for .mobi as well!

Do not misunderstand me when I say that I do not think that .top will be anywhere special in the next 10 years, it may well be one of the few (very few) new gTLD's that make it through the next 10 years. But at what cost? What is more if it is mainly Chinese investors, domainers, and web developers producing sites for the Chinese market then the problem is that it will at best just replace .cn and the other Chinese suffixes as the main suffix for China, that does not mean that .com will be replaced by .top.

I thought .xyz was the new .com

Sounds a bit daft to me. How many companies are arrogant enough to want to use a .top domain?

If you can flog a few to the Chinese or someone else good for you but this will not be a serious extension for end users.

well... if .best or .great comes along it may face some fierce competition for the .com-throne

In the IT industry with rapid pace, there are some people make it happen, some people watch it happen, and some people wonder what happened. That's how people missed .COM in the past. But now the situation is changing with new G's.

When the debating over the new G's and the old TLDs is still hot, something does happen. Data on https://namestat.org/ shows that Chinese registered the most new G's, not only .top, but also .xyz, .club, .win, or .otherextensions. So the popularity of an extension is not based on where the Registry locates, but on the market demands and the extension itself. The domain market is and will remain to be huge in China, the same with many other countries.

.TOP users come from 150+ countries and there are already lots of .top live sites both in and outside China: http://www.nic.top/en/example.asp, The growth will continue, not only among domainers, but ultimately among end-users, and this is what we're striving for.

Welcome to .top!:)

People who get crazy into this ntld or that ntld and making such bold claims that their chosen extension will be THE ONE to rule the internet and take down .com remind me a lot of cult believers waiting for the next comet to come...

I met someone once who lost about a million DOLLARS on .MOBI

The biggest winners of most new TLD launches are the registries - like an online casino where the players lose everything they put in.

Don't make the same mistake....

The TLD .mobi isn't compareable with the TLD .top - not in the slightest way.
It's hard to understand why someone is / was investing in .mobi and it's much harder to understand why investing a million dollars (?) in it.

Of course the biggest winners are in most cases the registries itself - how should it other be - they are the source - someone have to start it.

I understand the comparing with casinos but it's not the same.
Gambling just depends on luck while domaininvesting depends on luck AND on your strategy, your insight of the market and your knowledge in every way.
BTW I never do gambling.

So if you choose the right names with the right TLD at the right time without investing more than you can afford than you can make profit someday if you have the patient and the money.
Every domain investor have his / her reason/s for his / her investing/s.

Many will lose, some few will win - but with .top the chances to make money are top in my view.

I think all 3 letter gtld's which are similar to .com will be little successful. But more successful than .com, I seriously doubt.
