SAN FRANCISCO — A 76-year-old convicted killer—legally blind, nearly deaf and in a wheelchair—tried to stave off execution early Tuesday by arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court that it would be cruel and unusual punishment to put a feeble old man to death.

I'm not a big fan of the death penalty for various reasons but I have to agree.

Yeah he should pay for his crime, no matter how old he is. He ended someone elses life early, so the same should happen to him.

I heard he has diabetes too; wouldn't killing him be putting him out of his misery?

One thing though; He was like 50 when he was convicted, so why has it taken so long for his turn to come? I understand that there are around 3500 people on deathrow each year, but still. Kind'a long, IMHO.

I agree with Snake.

Personally, I believe its completely immoral. Why has he spent the last 20 odd years on death row, just to be killed at an old age...

I really think the US justice system needs some serious alterations...

The death penalty is a joke.
It costs too much, it is not a deterrent, it is a release not a punishment.

Make the bastards rot in solitary or fend for themselves in the general population. Death is the easy way out.

If I agree with the death penalty or not, is not the issue. Each country has their own rules. You live by those rules and know the punishment should you break them. In his case the death penalty was the time and he knew that when he decided to kill others.

He only stayed on death row so long because he wouldn't stop his appeals....He complained about being to old because he thought people would be sympathetic

deserves what he got

"If you want to assess how civilized a country is, look at its prisons and its legal system".
With the death penalty (meted out most often to poor / colored people), 3-strikes-your're-out laws and other nonsense well it tells you something isn't it ?
But don't worry the US is The Greatest Nation Of The World (Dubbya said so).

That is so stupid. I really don't understand why he would want to live anyways. First off you got guilt but then to have all of those hinderances.

I think it is wrong also! But don't forget we also starved a poor helpless woman to death also!, so this does not shock me. I am An american and damn proud of that, but am ashamed at the same time!

I dont think it does matter. But whatever happened to Mercey? He would have died soon anyway. I think if we have the death penalty, we should not have a justice system that drags it our for 20 years.

one question: who cares?

I know this is the break room, but im tired of seeing these politically orientated potentially volatile threads.. I thought these political threads were banned now anyway?

Namepros: buy, sell, discuss domain names...

If you don't like political discussions then stay out of them. Real easy.

I for one do care about these issue and so do many others. What is the point of posting here if you have nothing to add?

Ignore the thread.

Look, Badger, this is the offtopic break room...

I am also fairly sick of you flaming somebody in almost overy thread that you have made recently. It's just as though you sit there ready to pounce on any comment made by everybody...

"Who cares".... somebody obviously does.

He killed someone...just over grocery? This man is crazy. He should've known that he'd get in bigger trouble for murdering/having people murdered.
