I wonder if it is OK to have e.g. 20 or even 50 subdomains on one hosting account on one domain? - I mean if it can't cause problems to the server of my hosting provider?

I want to build many sites on different subjects and don't want to spend much money on domains, so I'm going to create many subdomains.

well if they have a certain amount I.E 100, it doesnt take anymore resources, so it should be fine

While that sort of usage is probably a bit outside the norm, the subdomains will not cause trouble on their own. The trouble will come with the added traffic, and the type of websites. If they're database reliant, try to use the software's cache feature/addon to make them more static, which will help to prolong your stay in a shared hosting environment by minimizing your CPU and memory usage.

Are those subdomain names going to be hosted within the same company?

Unless your hosting provider restricts it, the number of subdomains should not cause problems, the usage of resources connected with it may.

They might cause problems but not directly. YOU use a lot of sub domain names - they use too many servers sources and that cause your account termination.

There wouldn't be a problem with this. Some websites have thousands of sub domains that run without issue. The only question is, how many does your hosting account allow? If it's unlimited - have fun and create as many as you need :)

As I know there is no any problem by having any number of sub-domain if your hosting provider allow you to create. imo it is all about the traffic and resources you are consuming.

If you are with reseller account that will not be a problem at all for you

You must create subdomains just if you really need it. The subdomains are viewed as separate domains by search engines. So, you will must to promote separately. However, the hosting companies don't said anything about the subdomains number. Just try to have under 100 per domain.

In any case most web hosting account have limits and even on CPU load. And if you are go over those limits you will not be able to host as many as possible web sites.

Also don't link them together or else Google will de-index your websites.
