.US domains.US domains
Info is on their site... .tk stands for the island nation of Tokelau.

well, they are entitled to their own domain name as they have their own country/island. There is no way icann can't approve it i don't think. but, still, they have it :). I don't use .tk domain names anymore, even though i found a way to turn off the advertiseing!

.tk is a ccTLD. It comes as a package - you have a country - you get a TLD.
Being free is a classic "bait and switch" trick. They give it away for free now in hopes that you will develop. You will have no choice but pay up, when time comes to renew.

ya... they do cost after like 1 year, but its only like 3$

and so basically, if i went to an unclaimed island and declared it template rave, do i get my own cctld, and can i make it free?

Sure, but it is much more complicated than that TemplateRave. Much more.

if you find an unclaimed island, you'd be extremely lucky.. tho I expect you might find islands for sale, they'd still be under the auspices of a country somewhere.

Yes, It is a ccTLD just like
.ws Western Samoa
.tv Tuvalu
.fm Federated States of Micronesia
.cc Cocos Keeling Islands
.bz Belize
.am Armenia
.sc Seychelles (Not South Carolina)
Hands up who knows where they are on a map.
plus of course
.US Some little country I can't remember the Name of. :D

All sovereign nations of the World are entitled to their own ccTLD
But some poor and improvished countries like Tokealu (population < 3000)
Sell the rights to their ccTLD to help their economy.
I don't have a problem with this ,but please don't rubbish the country for doing it.

Namepros should find its own island and get a free extension. It would probably be cheaper than applying for one.

My parents own an island in Belize, Central America. Are they entitled to their own ccTLD? :P

This is a pretty interesting topic actually, when I started off developing websites and such I remember actually using this extension. But unfortunately these days it's filled with advertisements before you even enter the site.

Are they the free ones (redirection) or ones that you actually bought?

I'd rather use SmartDots.com, rather than .tk.
