Has anyone here pitched a .tv domain to a .com company? I have a few choice (at least what I feel to be choice and extension perfect .tv domains) .tv domains that I like to pitch to media companies but not sure if they even know a .tv extension exist.

When I pitch end users its a small and simple email and its for a .com domain. I feel if I have to pitch a .tv domain I may have to make that email a bit longer explaning what a .tv extention is and that may turn them off.

Has anyone sold one from a pitch no matter what price?

Here's a tip: Start attending church regularly & get really religious 'cause it'd take a miracle from God to get most -- but not all -- .com owners interested in the .tv extension.

Whilst it is unlikely that a .com owner would consider a .tv pitch much more than spam if presented properly who knows.

Their business would need to "open" to a .tv exposure and the pitch would have to be first class and the "subject" and opening lines would have to be an eye catcher.

The simple answer is try it and see- good luck.

I think it's A LOT easier to pitch a .COM to a company that has the same name developed in .NET or .ORG. That's the approach that I currently use and my area of focus. Selling .TV to a .COM would be much, much more difficult.

Ha! Great answer, and 100% true. The .com owner would have already regged the .tv, if he wanted it. Even church won't help!

I have sold a few .TV names to .com.au owners here in Oz (DayTours.TV and DayTour.TV etc)

I drew up a short letter and extracted a few important points from these below (cant remember who did this up, but its great), try and keep it simple and as basic as possible, people dont want a long email with all the fancy internet jargon.

Good luck guys

In a world where every possible extension will soon be allowed, the reasons why .TV will be a contender to match .com are :

1) TV is the most recognizable two-letter word in the world

2) TV is one of the very few words which are used in just about every country, every language and every culture

3) In a world where short domains are praised, .tv is the shortest TLD available, shorter than .com, .net, .org, .info, .mobi, etc.

4) If big corporations and established businesses have been using .com or local ccTLDs for their main websites, .tv is generally the only other TLD they've been developing websites on

5) Unlike all the other newer TLDs (.mobi, .eu, .asia, etc), .tv is the only one which has been development-driven and not speculation-driven. This means that there's a huge amount of great developed .tv sites which raises .tv awareness. More average people using .tv sites means more recognition for the TLD, more and more new endusers for .tv domains and that will eventually mean a lively reseller market. This whole development part just doesn't exist for .mobi, .eu or .asia, where there are very few developed sites and therefore no user awareness.

6) The growth rate of the number of developed .tv sites (+10 to 15% increase in the number of indexed .tv sites each month) as well as the growth rate of the search volume for .tv sites are the highest amongst all TLDs

7) The corporate enduser adoption is getting bigger and bigger. All the big TV networks are developing, using and promoting heavily new .tv sites for their tv channels and specific tv shows. A large number of satellite TV channels are now using .tv domains for their main websites, all those being promoted on screen in front of millions of viewers everyday. This again raises .tv awareness constantly, which means more recognition for the TLD.

8) The online video market has been booming in the past few years even though it's still in its infancy. We can expect a huge increase in this global market in the years/decades to come, which means huge opportunities too. And .tv has everything to become the TLD of choice for the world of video, news, entertainement and media.

9) Given the fantastic marketing/advertising/business opportunities that online video is going to offer to companies big and small, we'll see a boom in online video commerce and marketing in the years to come. And .tv is ideal for that purpose.

10) Finally, .tv is such a powerful and international recognized word that it gives an instant brandability and promotion opportunities. In a world full of confusing new TLDs, companies and users will turn to what has been established and well-known for decades, and that will be the old trusted TLDs (like .com, .org, .co.uk, .de, etc) as well as TV which has been part of every household for many decades even before the birth of the Internet.

Eh but like it's been pointed out above, the .com owner would have just regged the .tv if wanted. IF it wasn't avail, they'd likely wait til it expired & pick it up, since a lotta .tv owners let 'em drop unless it's truly promising. In a nutshell: One bad can outweigh a billion goods. This list shows a lotta goods but the crippling bad is still there: .tv doesn't apply to as much as most other extensions. gardening.tv and cars.tv work but the vast majority of keywords do not and cannot relate to the ext. .tv is better than .aero and .museum but it seems like .name to me.

Some good points ArchAngel, I guess its more a case of when the .com owner is not even aware of the .TV and what its about, but once he reads the email, he can see the benefits of it, especially if they are in a related business like Radio, Television, Multimedia, news companies etc

I agree if a .com owner wanted the name, he would go and register it, but you will find most people you email would not know much about domains, domaining and .TV

Its our job to show him/her the pros and how it will/could benefit their business

Spoken like a true domainer -, don't assume because they are using a .com that they know all about domain names.

A very easy trap to fall in to- finding reasons NOT to sell/promote domain names- as I said the op has nothing to lose by at least trying. :gl:

That's a pretty nice writeup! Rep on its way! :tu:

Thanx for all your ideas. I see it hard as well but im going to test it. I feel the .tv extension sits well with media companies way better then any other type of field, and the .tv domains Im going to pitch are media/tv related.

still there are plenty of LLLLL.com available all other extensions are only going to increase the importance of the .COM

I think it is extremely naive to assume a .com owner would have just registered the .tv if they wanted. So many .com business owners (especially smaller companies or mom&pop type operations) tend not to be the most internet savvy. For all you know, they had someone register the .com for them or have owned it before .tv was even out there.

Plus lets be frank it is not like .tv has been marketed to its full potential. Lastly .tv fits certain mediums better that .com ever will. The only reason .com is considered #1 regardless of the situation is due to recognition.

I own netball.tv and drafted the below letter and sent out to sporting organisations and media stations. I have still not sold the domain however I recieved feedback from all corportions, which is better then not hearing back from them at all. I always made a point to add something personal from their website and always addressed the email to the person that was responsible for the potential sale. I will definetly continue approaching end users, no harm in asking.

That is a nice letter and although you did not get an offer, a response is a decent sign that your pitch is being read and courteously replied to. This has happened to me as well and a good response is always read as a promising sign.

I had a letter for some streets in Chicago that I sent out to some concerns a while back. I won't hurt to try again at a later date. Went like this:

www.ClarkStreet.tv

A NICE DOMAIN NAME FOR
REAL ESTATE SALES IS FOR SALE!!
Looking for a domain name that encourages and invites visitors to visually experience the property that you have to offer on the Internet?
Or looking perhaps to showcase the sights and sounds of one of the busiest streets in Chicago? This domain would be a natural guide of where to find fine dining and entertainment as well as the best hotels in Chicago.

This domain name has exactly what you are looking for right down to the extension itself. Dot (.)tv is an extension perfectly fitted for visual interactive content and information. The name โ€œTVโ€ has been universally recognized, being embedded in our culture and worldwide for over 50 years.

This extension has the potential to be so viable, user-friendly and profitable that it automatically creates a positive atmosphere for visually attractive advertisements of properties and/or establishments.

is now for sale.

If you have use for this dynamic name please feel free to make an offer or ask any questions you may have. These other fine names are also for sale:
