Bought my first domain from money made from Adsense on a GeoCities site..
Went to Yahoo Answers..found a question...did some online research..made a page with answers (back linked my other pages)...Answered question on Answers, included my new page link...did about two or three pages a day.
Back then, it was quantity not quality of backlink that helped with ranking..
