Google vs. the Rest of Us

Once upon a time, in the land of the dotcom, Netscape was the king, but since the bubble burst in 2000, things have since changed. Now that the dust has settled, it is obvious that Netscape was never the king. After Netscape come MSN, Yahoo, Overture and Google. Irony the same people who hail Netscape as the King are now hailing Google as the king. Maybe Google has finally figure out how to stay afloat in spite of the aggressive competition from Yahoo and the rest of us.

I am not a Googler, but I will admit that Google is in control of our lives. From NYTime.com to Boston.com, Charlotte.com and thousands of other major, each one of these websites have Google Ad sense on their sites. This is why it did not come, as a surprise to me, when a family friend after he saw this article title β€œGoogle vs. the Rest of Us” ask me this question, how does Google make money. β€œWell that is simple I said. Did you notice Google Ad in the websites that you frequent? Every time someone click on any of these Ad Google make money. The family friend response was, I never thought about that.

The number definitely speaks for itself, just look at the number below and you will see why Google remain the darling, 6 out of 10 all internet visitors uses Google. Here is how the six leading search engine rank in the March – April 2006.

Google.com – 105.7 Million visitors
Yahoo.com – 29.3 Million visitors
MSN.com – 5.1 Million visitors
Netscape.com – 3.4 Million visitors
Ask.com – 2.7 Million visitors
A9.com – 1.4 Million visitors

If the above data from Urltrends.com is accurate, then Google may one day rule the world or turnout to be another Netscape.com.

I've never understood how Google made money before AdSense... Does anyone know?

I don't quite get the point of your article? I don't see Google as being "in control of our lives" in any way. They've done a lot of work and they've managed to do quite well when it comes to information on the internet. Google has indeed become a virtual household term, but I don't see a problem with that. Clearly, Google has distanced itself from the rest of the pack with their innovation. If you want to beat them, you've got to beat them at their own game. Come out with something inventive of your own. In the business world, competition dictates virtually everything. Right now, Google is simply beating the pants off of everyone else.

Something I ment to point out earlier - I think Google was the first company to truly grasp both the importance and potential of cataloging internet and the revenue that could be generated from the process. I mean we saw Netscape, Yahoo and to some degree MSN rise up at various points but they've all been focusing on creating the portal atmosphere and having the information themselves when you visit the site.

Google, on the other hand, made the move of simply cataloging the information through their searches making it much quicker in many ways and more convenient as well. They've also done as much as they can to catalog all the information that is virtually possible (pardon the pun there).

I liken it to a race in which all of the major SE's are racers. Google took off with a running jump while their competitors were much slower out of the gate. The question is, can Google keep up the pace or will another catch up? Right now there's a large amount of track to make up.

Google founders are in my opinion among or the most clever people on earth. They knew how to play the game cleanly, and are now ruling the world. It's obvious why 6 out of 10 all internet investors uses Google...when you know that it is the best out there, whey you wanna go somewhere else?
