Timber (.) mobi is on auction now at SEDO. >> LINK HERE << The reserve has been met.

Dot mobi names are moving, many behind the scenes unlike this one of course. Real life business owners and marketers get it. There is life beyond dot-com. If you don't own the dot-com name life is not over, you don't close up shop and go into another business (where the dot-com is also taken and probably parked). If you DO own the dot-com, grabbing a nice dot-mobi generic name while you can right now this early into the game is a real bargain.

Interest in generic term DotMobis (even seemingly "non-mobile" ones) and the weekly introduction of developed sites helps chop down the arguments of mobi-skeptics one name at a time. Of course time will tell. At least for now one might be tempted to say .... Timmmmmmmberrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Best of luck with it Bill!

Really would make an awesome name for a logging company, although it seems like upon doing a google search, timber is in the name of just about every kind of business! :)

$2000 opening bid, and people are still saying .mobi is dead, lol.

Good luck, this is definitely a sale to watch.

Still $2000, if no other bidders, I'm thinking you might have an enduser here who placed the offer? Still one day left though.

Righto, hopefully the one bidder is an End user with development plans ... :music:
Good Luck with the remaining auction at Sedo! :talk:

Thank you all for the best wishes. Will have to wait and see how it goes. Lots of visits to the listing. Hope that it translates into some more action.

Of course in these types of auctions there is no telling who the bidders are until the change in whois after settlement. In this case I have no idea whether it is an end user or not, whether they are part of the literal "timber" industry or just someone who intends to use the term as part of a branded name. Or it could be a domain developer. We will see.

You might guess (and correctly so) that this is what causes many (and me) to prefer generic terms for domain names. One can use them literally or brand them. It is MUCH easier to brand a generic term than it is to take a made-up, brandable term and make it generic.

The .mobi extension is nice because it has the brandability built right in - .mobi means mobile.
(.com = "commercial", .org = "organization", .edu = "education", .gov = "government", and .mobi = "mobile".)

on the issue of brandable extensions, i have always found .info charming in that light, but in that most sites provide info, it may have been too overreaching to be brandable.

used properly, mta.info is new york's main subway and train schedule. I find it a great site for information and not purchasing anything, perhaps info's calling - no commerce, but a link to another site for commerce.

I love your description in the sedo listing, it's just perfect, can I plagiarize some of that? lol

Sure, have at it. Thank you for asking before using it.
A marketing message needs constant tweaking to fit the specific item, audience, venue, and time.

Thanks, would like to see more action on it but will be satisfied either way.

Yes, .info also has built in branding as do CCtlds such as .de, .co.uk, and .US.
But .MOBI is the ONLY extension specifically designed to mean mobile sized screen compatible. The others were all introduced during the reign of the big screen.

Looks like winning bidder is the only bidder, $2000.

Excellent price, congrats! :music:
Let's keep our eyes peeled, as the Seller suggests, on the Whois to see who the End user might be and their potential development plans for this generic .MOBI, IMHO. :talk:

Even though only one bidder, this is an amazing price at this time for timber.mobi.

I smell an enduser. Please let us know if and when you find out who purchased it, if you can. Thanks and congratulations on this sale.

Thank you gentlemen. As a seller, of course I would have liked to watch a bidding war for the auction, but nonetheless I am satisfied and the buyer has acquired a real nice, short, generic, easy-to-remember name to use for their entry point onto the mobile webspace. I am always curious to see another's application of any name that I regged - .mobi or whatever the extension.

With the auction ended, the transaction is in progress awaiting buyer payment. My previous SEDO deal took only about 24 hours to complete as payment was made immediately and SEDO was really on the ball. Would be nice if that was always the case but experience has shown otherwise.

As far as knowing who the buyer is, once payment is received and approved I might find out if SEDO has me push the name to them directly, but more often than not the request has been to push it into SEDO's holding account at the registrar. Even if I get that information ahead of time I prefer not to make the buyer's details public as a professional courtesy. That is just my personal preference even if there is not an NDA. It also leaves them the option to apply privacy to the registration if they choose to do so.

I can however make a post in this thread when payment is received, so if anyone is interested they can just access the whois records at that time. Thanks again for your acknowledgment and support.

Just wanted to congratulated Acc on the timber.mobi sale (timber.mobi is currently listed on the Sedo homepage under Recent Sales). The whois hasn't been updated yet -- Erich Mueller is the Sedo rep and many NP'ers have had negative experiences (re: lengthy escrows) with him, however it being listed on the Sedo homepage obviously means this buyer is legit.

Looking forward to seeing what the new owner does with it :)

Thanks Reece. I received payment and it cleared in my account yesterday. Yes the domain was pushed into SEDO's escrow account per their direction last week. They do that for buyers who prefer their own registrars and to get payment to the sellers sooner, although this one took about a month to complete.

So much depends on the payment schedule, method, and processing - and the registrars' transfer requirements and methods - and the parties' response times to each of the steps involved. It's funny because I've had a recent SEDO transaction turn in about 2 days and most seem to take 3-4 weeks. Except for the occassional non-payer and patience required to receive payment, SEDO is a pretty good venue for domain sales.

As stated previously, I'm also always curious to see the application of a name that I've sold. Best of success to the buyer. It is a nice, short, easily-remembered name.
