please pay attention....
I didnt comment on the thread that Ron started about Dr Hartnett - I wanted some time to work out the implications,,,,
the news has finally sunk in - and here are the two most important lines from the article and to which alot of people made reference to - 1, he has bought with a few business partners, 17,000 names and 2, so far the names produce little to no revenue
Alot of the argument raged on about how it was still obvious that without development all you will be left with are renewal fees and drops.........no-one can develop 17,000 names.......
Here is the contrarian view - what the good doctor is doing is plain and simple domaining - he has no intention of developing his entire portfolio or anywhere close to that - the majority - I would imagine at least 16,000 are long term punts that the .tv ext could/might end up as the most diversally spread ext after .com over the next decade or so and people will want the names that the dr has bought on masse. SOUNDS VERY MUCH LIKE A DOMAINERS EXT TO ME...........
So the question is, just because the doctor thinks so, why should that make such an impression???
The answer is because the doctor belongs to that rare breed of mankind who gets more accomplished in a season than most of us do in a lifetime, his calls on the next big thing have so far turned out to be on the money each and every time and as an ex broker, for me to read that he had only seven negative trading days in a long career as a trader is simply staggering. Finally, I am absolutely convinced that the doctor is not the first nor the last long term punter on the ext in a MAJOR way - roumors whistle in the wind constantly....
So Snoop, there are certainly the naysayers, and you have bought yourself a front seat in that club, but as stunning as your list of .coms are does not mean that you have any better insight into the future of this ext and your argument that people get confused about the most basic of issues pertaining to .tv has always sounded ridiculous :lol:
