I should be able to pay a small fee per year, not this ridiculous amount because you bought up all the good names! So no thank you. Go open up a meaningful business that actually helps people.

That person is bitter and angry because all the domains of her choice are already taken. She is venting on you out of frustration. The best course of action is to leave her alone and move on. Your next response could aggravate her...
I have had similar experience in the past. I just laughed it off and never looked back.

She sure is in the initial email she also asked if I own another similar domain.

Well, everybody got these type of responses but not exactly like this. These are all hurdles (or you can say stepping stones) to get success in domain industry. Every small and big Domainer do this . People who don't understand Domains usually responds like this. But Rule to success : Ignore these type of people and approach next potential buyer. You'll find them, they are out there.

If your domain has quality and you still want to work with her and close the deal, you should be able to defend your domain.

But you can decider she doesn't want to talk to you again.

That's what business is, paying someone else a premium so you don't have to do it yourself.

In all seriousness, I think domain investors do provide a useful service. Without them, many great potential names would be already used for crappy dead projects, personal pages that never update etc. They kind of reserved good brands for good projects that should be able to afford them. The better the project, the more it should be able to afford and the better name it would get.

Why does this lady assume that the name would still be available for her to hand reg and not registered and used up by another person for a dead project?

A lot of photographers use full name or name + keyword / photography or relative terms. You can let her know that this is one option if she can't afford your name at the moment.

to me it sounds like shes playing the card - "small business" and be riped off card , hoping you will sell it for a lot less . just let her know that's ur final price if it is , and if she wants it she will buy it if not its not worth your time going back and fourth if that's the amount you are wanting.

Need not be offended nor take it personally. Selling is all about overcoming objections. So if you're really into sales, you should expect this and be ready to counter with strong points. It's all part of the game; and it may even end up in sales.

That's exactly what I did at my wedding. I got my brother's amateur photographer girlfriend to take my wedding pictures. She took some great pictures. The only problem turned out to be no film in the camera. Really a true story. Had almost no pictures of the wedding, and the one's we did get were all poor quality amateur snapshots.

You could make a comparison to real estate and how all of the prime locations are bought up as well. Should you be able to rent a storefront on Rodeo Drive for the same price as one in a rural town? Are the people that bought those locations also not in a meaningful business?

Anyone can buy a digital camera for $35 and take a picture. Does that mean she isn't in a meaningful business? I bet she charges a lot more for her services?

I wouldn't bother with a response.

at least I know that my emails were not landing in junk.

I got a similar email last night. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same person.

If he were as good as a developer as he may think he is, he'd just have to Google the domain and see I was selling it here for $25 with the .NET. Not anymore!

tell her the price you gave her was a special.. just for her.. and discounted specifically for hard working small business women.

As an end user who has been looking for a good domain for about six months, it can be very annoying for mediocre names to be up for 2k.

But it makes sense and it gave me an interest in domaining. I see the value in a good domain more than ever while beta testing with my own very standard name.

The most annoying part is the domains that are worth a decent investment on my part haven't replied. Like ten of them so far. No low balling, just standard enquiries.

Agreed.

If someone just doesn't have the $$$, or makes a lowball offer, it's whatever. You adjust the pricing if you can.

But, these people who think their preferred name should just magically be available for reg fee? ...Wut???
