I am not an UK resident, but I found a keyword .uk domain that appears to be free to register, that is, nobody has any preference for registering it.

I know there are services like 101domain.com that can lend you an UK address, so you can buy UK domains even if you are not a resident.

So, knowing that I am not an UK resident, and that I'm going to be using a registrar that lends me an UK address, like 101domain, would there by any difficulty in selling this domain to whoever wants it? I know there are extra fees and all, but would it actually be possible to sell it under these conditions?

I think it might be worth it since I consider it to be a nice set of words. Is this often done/good idea, etc?

    Thanks.

Remember also that most .UK can't be registered if you don't own the .co.uk

I think this one can be. I checked with the rights lookup tool (dotuklaunch.uk/rights-lookup-tool), and it says "no match for x domain" and that the domain hasn't been registered (which I interpret as it being free to register, since the equivalent .co.uk IS registered, but I believe after the cutoff date).

Thanks. I had read that. I used the tool mentioned in that PDF, and the tool shows nobody with special rights to register the domain. The co.uk equivalent was registered after the .uk domains launched, and therefore also way after the cutoff date, so I think those two criteria (making the domain not a right to the .co.uk registrant) are met. I haven't checked with the other domains, but since the tool returns no immediate beneficiaries, I'm assuming it is free. Am I understanding this correctly?

If all that checks then you should be clear to register it. And if you also flip it maybe you create a thread with the perks of this extension (a good registrar for dot uk, if push works and after how many days from initial registration etc).

Do you mean a thread on my experience? Sure, I will do that. I'm new to all of this, so I'm not even sure if it's a good buy, but hopefully I can get something out of it. I'm still doubting on whether to use 101domain or some other site which can lend me an UK address (anyone that can advice me on that?), since 101domain doesn't give me a great initial impression overall.

I think you may find that the right of registration of .uk by the equivalent .co.uk registrant applies to .co.uk registrations up to June 2014?

All you need is a UK address, and a service like scanmypost could do.
Your buyer will most likely be from the UK anyway.

From what I understand the .co.uk owner has the right to the .uk domain. Their option on it only expires in 2019. You can try and register it but you'll need to provide proof you own the .co.uk, which it doesn't sound like you do.

If it's not registered in .co.uk it's likely not worth bothering with. The UK cctld is extremely popular and has been well mined for many years.

I wanted to reply to this older thread. Is there another option for registering .uk name if you are not in the uk.
Understanding that I am able to purchase the .uk version.
