There is no information in the "Whois", what's wrong?

I was trying to lookup the whois information for a domain. There is no information about the registrant (not even anonymous). Just the name of the registrar and the dates. I have tried many whois services including that of the registrar and it's the same. Whois at ICANN returns "Sorry, but the Registry or Registrar WHOIS Server responded with a rate limit message due to high query volumes or has closed the connection without a response. Please try your request again later."

Following is the copy pasted whois info, I have replanced the domain name and registrar with asterisks (*):

swhoisd 3.0.5
Searching for *******.com.
No records matching ********.com found.

Registrar: ******** LIMITED
Whois Server: whois.********8.com
Creation Date: 25-MAY-2010
Updated Date: 19-JUL-2010
Expiration Date: 25-MAY-2019

Nameserver: NS547.WEBSITEWELCOME.COM
Nameserver: NS548.WEBSITEWELCOME.COM

Registry Status: ok

>>> Last update of whois database: Fri, 26 Dec 2014 17:57:19 GMT <<<

I have seen such thing for the first time. Does anyone know what's the reason for this?

Thanks!

No records found... that's a strange result for an active domain.

Have you tried the whois at internic.net ?

I get the "high query volumes" message on occasion but otherwise can't offer an explanation.

I sold a domain in September and the Whois has been blank since the transfer. No information, nothing.

The best would be to check the whois on the website of the registrar concerned.
Then you should not be subject to the rate limit issues (there may be a captcha though).
