To those who wonder why we don't like political threads here at NP, I wish I could show you the number of emails and messages I've received lately from members who are upset about it. Very few topics bring out emotions in the way politics does. Very few topics create such a divide amongst members. Heck, even me... if I posted my own personal feelings about this election and the parties involved... it would almost surely cause hard feelings among people I consider friends. Anyway...

This will be the one-and-only (OFFICIAL) thread on tonight's VP debate. Post away and enjoy it.

This thread has been quite interesting to say the least. Goes to show how powerful the internet is in spreading rumors. And the folks that already have preconceptions hold on to these rumors, lapping them up, even after proven false multiple times.

I'm still trying to deal with me agreeing with Jeff on something... :xf.love:

McCain- Sorry....you made a Bad Choice. Sold your country out for a feeble attempt at gaining womens votes. No other logical reason to make the pick he did. Case closed.

Palin is WAY out of her league. A minor leaguer pitching in the World Series. Her cowering away from media AND public questioning is unprecedented. The few unscripted interviews she has done were simply embarrassing, to say the least. Add in a dash of troopergate ("I'm going to co-operate with the investigation" / I'm doing everything I can to block this investigation until after the election). What could make anyone comfortable with her second in command?

This message brought to you by a registered Republican who will be crossing the line this time...I DO care about my country

1 more fact is that if he were to become president, he would be the first Bahasa speaking american president.

I do not know why but know that Barack had a problem with wearing an American flag lapel pin but I believe he finally caved in.

Now I have to ask why not put his hand on his heart?

So what man?

I dont stand during the pledge because it says God. Does that make me non-American?

Christians were responsible for hundreds of thousands of slaughtering and are statistically the most brutal religion in the world.

I am American Cherokee Indian, People who know me here are aware of that. I was born on the Cherokee Nation In Tahlequah Oklahoma. I lived there until i was 6 years old.

Trust me, I know what racism is. and i am not racist.

Nor would i burn a cross, I am a Christian

Kid? I am 46 years old.

I can only read about the Muslim religion, I have never attended a Muslim function or otherwise. so i can only read about it, and go off of what i read.

The same for Barrack Obama , I can only read and research, and base my findings to conclude an opinion.

I can understand you being defensive for your religion of Islam, I have said over and again, I respect all religions.

Have i been misinformed? That is possibility, but as i say, i can only read and research, and then come to a conclusion, leading to an opinion.
I am not muslim and have similar views to Isis. I would never be a muslim nor do I care for their views on women but they have as much right to practice it where ever they live, as this is supposed to be the land of the free. The only problem I have is when they want to bring things like Shari law here. I should mention I don't care for religion in general, many horrible things have been commited in the name of most religions, especially Christianity. Christianity and really, any religion in general is very exclusionist. Anyways, the majority of any religion are peaceful people who are just looking for a good life in America despite a religions history or bad apples.

X, if you view Muslims as haters of America, then surely you must view Christians as murderers of natives.

I also find it funny that people bring up Rev. Wright. Despite some of his racist views he is totally right that America killed more people when dropping the nukes than were killed in 911. Its just a fact.

Can you really be serious? You think it's just fine and dandy to vote for this guy with his heritage background - that doesn't like to put his hand over his heart - that doesn't like to wear the flag on his coat. - That appears to not have respect for the United States flag.

Does it make you non-American? I think it makes you a dis-respectful american "If you are American" unless you have some disability allowing you to not stand.

Back when the war in Iraq was getting heavy, i'd watch the news on Al-Jazeera...and while i didn't really understand the news anchor, cuz i don't understand modern standard arabic (what's spoken on the news channels) i'd see the images.

I remember seeing a mother crying and holding her dead child in her arms asking why this was happening to them? what did they do to the US?

I remember my dad making a comment saying that 'they shouldn't be so emotional'. but how can you NOT get emotional? you're holding the body of your dead child in your arms. How could someone not go crazy with pain and grief????
You mention the images you saw on Al-Jazeera of the victims of American bombings in Iraq, which obviously are shocking and intolerable, but you don’t mention the images in Al-Jazeera or in some other news channels of the thousands of Muslims who partied and danced in the streets through out the Middle east or Africa to celebrate the 9/11 carnage.

You say that Muslims are for religious tolerance, and yet so many preach hatred and world domination in the place of love, and slavery in the place of freedom. Need proof? What about the teachings and sermons from some of the Muslim clerics? Why do so many of them display hatred and intended domination of non-Muslims?

Why is the Bible banned in so many Arab Countries. Owning a Bible can get you killed, arrested, or deported. In Saudi Arabia, they burn discovered Bibles. Christians are not free to practice their religion. Jews are banned completely.

How about the intolerance of the Taliban when they destroyed the centuries old Buddha statues in Bamiyan, Afghanistan? Why was there no outcry from the Muslims?

Are you banned from practicing Islam or owning the Holy Koran in the USA? I think not.

I didn’t see any Islamic tolerance in Holland when Theo Van Gogh was killed by a Muslim for making the movie 'Submission'.

Muslim clerics in Britain have spewed out hatred against the infidels, and have vowed that Britain will one day be taken over by the Muslims and Sharia law applied. You have to admire the British for their tolerance, until one day…

Christians, Jews, and Buddhists don't lash out in fanatical and homicidal attacks when their religion is insulted. They don't call for jihad. If they did, thousands of Muslims would be dead in Europe and America.

In Palestinian territories churches and Jewish holy sites are desecrated. The Christian population in Palestinian-controlled territories is dwindling to nothing. Where is the beneficial face of Islam?

Isis, All these things don't help westerners in believing that Islam is a tolerant religion. You are going to spend a lot of your time and energy defending Islam from people who don’t understand it.

I think it’s time for Muslims to start reflecting, looking inwards and start realizing that you are not all angels. You have a lot of fanatics in Islam who are the main source of conflicts between Islam and other religions.

It is your duty to defend your religion from the ignorant bigots, but it is also your duty to condemn and get rid of the Islamic fanatics. If Muslims don’t condemn and take steps to stop all this extremism, fanaticism and terrorism, you can bet that the divide is going to get even wider.

People are expressing their opinions, There has been very little personal attacking in this thread. that is a good thing. that is not the usual for a political thread here. this is a HUGE topic, although off topic. perhaps people are learning some thing, and that is a good thing as well.

I know i have, and i am mad at no one.

I am looking for other resources, other than the ones i have found on the Muslim religion, so i can better understand. I have come to the conclusion that perhaps my ignorance of the religion may be my problem.

By learning more about the religion, It will help me understand the Islam people. It will help me understand Barrack Obama's position going from the Muslim religion to Christianity.

That is good thing, Imo

I thought America was founded on religious tolerance. Christianity might be the dominating religion, but not everyone is Christian. Sorry I'm not some non-white fearing, cross burning, sheet wearing bigot like you.

I choose to be myself, and Barack Obama is choosing to be himself. Get over it. He will win, you will cry, and the US will finally be back on top.

Name calling is NOT going to help any one understand, or learn any thing from this.

People have a right to believe or not believe what they choose, that is why the election for the Presidency will take place.

I like what Obama and Biden have put on the table for the US.

I only need to more understand the Muslim religion, so i can determine if it could play a factor in Obama being President.

My voters card is current and ready to go, Although i have said i will not vote in this election, there may be a good chance i will, If i can learn and understand that Obamas heritage of Muslim. will play no factor for him as President of The USA.

If i am able to establish that. I will vote the Obama- Biden ticket.

If not, I will not vote.

I only need to understand the Muslim religion more, so i can make a determination.

If i were to vote the Obama-Biden ticket in, It would be the first time i have ever voted for Democratic.

Most Muslims are peaceful - its people like the Al Qaeda that give them the bad name. With Barack Obama being African, Muslim, and American, he can bring the best of all 3 worlds together. He can hold good ties with the middle east and africa, while protecting the home front. If anything, with him being multicultural, it is more of a plus than anything.

Agreed. The fact that he is black will benefit relations with Africa. Since Obama is more likely to win I hope he can get tough with African dictators who don't give a damn for their suffering population, They will better accept a good scolding from a black president as opposed to a white one.

He is also much more popular here in Europe than McCain is.

Seems to me you're wrong on that point.. there have been plenty of personal attacks on Obama (either direct or indirect) and a great deal of mischaracterizing Muslims as a whole.

Like I said, this thread has gone completely off topic in any case.

Once again, Obama is NOT African, he's "gasp" a black American! And he's NOT Muslim (not that it matters to me), he's Christian!

Personally I would like to see a candidate elected who doesn't automatically accede to every Israeli demand and is willing to talk to and see both sides of the table.

Just like the lotto, you can't win if you don't play? Well, you can't win "hearts and minds" until your willing to acknowledge them and talk.

I was always taught to avoid discussing religion or politics, for the obvious reasons.

But this thread...religion AND politics all in one!

Anybody got a match?

I meant personal attacks against each other here at NamePros. And that has been minimal in this thread.

Attacks against Obama AND McCain would some what be of the norm don't ya think??

The mischaracterizing of Muslims, could possibly be attributed to ignorance of the religion, No?

I may be guilty of that of that myself, I do not know yet, I am reading more in depth on there religion, and THE PEOPLE AS A WHOLE, not just the 15 Muslim terrorists that flew planes in to out Trade Center Towers.

So some progress has been made in this thread, Yes, it has gone off topic, but, I believe not only myself, but other people who have taken part in this thread, will have learned some thing new, and possibly very helpful for this up coming election.

I myself am researching and learning as quickly as possible, as the Presidential election is right around the corner.

If i am to vote in this election, There are things i need answered.

You can take the route of closing this thread, that would not be a good thing, Imo , people are learning some thing here, And progress is being made, Imo.

Your other prerogative could be to give warning points Dave, Give me some if you wish, Or you have the power to Ban me, Do that if wish Dave.

I am an American, I have the freedom to express, I have freedom of speech, and damn sure have the right to learn from a Muslim that has brought things to my attention that i never thought about before, Thank You Isis

I am trying to learn something here, Isis has actually opened my eyes and made me think.
