To those who wonder why we don't like political threads here at NP, I wish I could show you the number of emails and messages I've received lately from members who are upset about it. Very few topics bring out emotions in the way politics does. Very few topics create such a divide amongst members. Heck, even me... if I posted my own personal feelings about this election and the parties involved... it would almost surely cause hard feelings among people I consider friends. Anyway...

This will be the one-and-only (OFFICIAL) thread on tonight's VP debate. Post away and enjoy it.

Well, well, well, Sarah really surprised me tonight. The past week or two we have been bombarded in the media and even here at Namepros about how dumb Palin was. Granted she was week on foreign policy and sidetracked some questions, but she held up very well and I believe managed to charm a lot of people including Joe Biden himself.

Give her a little more time and a few more lessons and you can bet she will change a lot of opinions.

She came into this debate as a heavy underdog but I think she contradicted a lot of skeptics. Well done Sarah!

There is an internet rumor going around that after tonight, Biden is going to pull out of the running due to anurizems and Clinton will take his spot. This is purely speculation, but I would like to see where it goes.

I refuse to get involved in a political thread :p ... but I must admit she did better than many expected.

To get back on topic, I think Palin did a good job of being charming, but not a good job of being vice-president. I think Biden out classed her in all respects. Now to see what the MSM has to say..

I must say, Palin did a lot better than I thought she would after that disaster that was her CBS interview with Katie Couric. Biden won the debate imho but I'm not sure if Democrats will show positive resuts in the polls...

Palin was certainly charming but at times I felt she came off as slightly unprofessional. She spent way too much time bashing Obama on a nonexistent tax issue. I think we all know corporations having more money really doesn't translate into more money for your ordinary American -- just look how much Exxon has grown over the past 8 years versus how much your average American's wage has gone down when inflation's factored in.

I agree with McCain on a lot of issues and have mad respect for him but just hope to hell nothing ever happens to him. God forbid a woman who considers unloading nukes on Russia get into power D-:

Me being Canadian, I'm just happy George Bush isn't going to be in power any longer and that democracy still exists in this world. :)

edit: Feel free to send me hate mail, I won't take it personally :talk:

That's the best part of these elections; No more George W. after 2009. :]

She definitely looks better than Biden. :)

That's about as much of a political statement that i am willing to make. :talk:

I still think we are screwed either way the election goes, the debate was your usual "You Are Wrong", "We Didn't Say That" Debate.

She showed she has intelligence, mostly as to running a state, when the politics got heavy, she faltered, Imo

I was really surprised by it. I expected Biden to say something really stupid, but he controlled himself. He even came off as charming. She missed a couple of points she could have responded to, and rather clumsily changed the topic over to her favorite talking points, but did OK.

The moderator, in contrast to all expectations (maybe because of the expectations), seemed very fair.

Either way, I think the next president is going to walk into a mess, and probably be out in 4 years because of that. Whoever it is.

wow,

i'm sorry guys, but somebody like Palin being a step away from the presidency scares the hell out of me.

is this your idea of an ideal female candidate? a 'pretty' woman with 'charm' but has no clue when it comes to foreign policy or domestic issues for that matter?

All i heard tonight from her were catch phrases, slogans, and stuff about alaska.

Would you guys really really feel safe having this woman make the tough decisions on matters she knows nothing about. If you thought that 8 years under Bush was bad, imagine somebody dumber and more gullible than him handling your 401Ks, jobs, and other matters.

If McCain wanted to pick a woman for the VP spot, why not choose somebody with MORE experience, hell....he could have tapped Condelleza Rice....she's black...and a woman...that could have really shook things up. I'd still be afraid of a McCain/Rice ticket....But at least she has experience when it comes to foreign affairs.

The idea of Palin being chosen as a running mate almost seems like a matter of affirmative action. She wasn't chosen because of her experience or knowledge. She was chosen because she was a woman....and a woman that is easily molded. You keep hearing about all the time Palin's been prepped and rehearsed for tonight's debate, as if she's rehearsing for a beauty contest. But this isn't a beauty contest....

If i was a republican, i'd be really really pissed right now. The presidency and vice presidency is supposed to represent the highest level of office in the country....and we've got a "Maverick" playing cards with the election.

maybe the reason why there are strong feelings is because people don't talk to each other. there is an unhealthy divide among Americans these days. democrat = bad /republican = corrupt /christian = fanatic /muslim=fanatic + terrorist.

if we all got together and vented our thoughts and ideas, maybe the stereotypes that keep us divided would break away. maybe it would get us thinking and learning more instead of relying on the media or politicans to tell us how or what to think.

the internet is so unique because it allows anybody regardless of race, color, religion, sex to express themselves. i bet if we all got a chance to meet each other, we'd be shock

there is a show on BabyFirst TV that my son watches that is called The Yoyo & Peanut show....which is about two funny circus clowns who are complete opposites and play a game called the opposite game. As they sing their main theme song the sing, "See we can be friends though we're never the same....'

i think that is an important concept to learn, because if you aren't willing to hear and understand the other side, you risk becoming intolerant and wish to silence the opposing viewpoints...

jmo.

while this isn't a political forum...but if somebody can't read the warning notice in big red letters then they have no business complaining

Substitute 'man' for 'woman' and 'step away' to 'Presidential nominee', and you would be talking about Obama, so I don't really see where you're going with this.... just making it obvious that you are more interested in promoting the democrat platform than providing good leadership for the country.

Oh, and of course, you would have to add, 'lacking in real world experience', 'never having run a business', 'willing to earmark hundreds of millions of dollars every year at taxpayers expense', 'providing earmarks to campaign donors and employers of his wife' to his resume.

Dems need to quit harping about her experience, it just reminds everyone what a newbie Obama is.

As for the debate, I thought they both accounted well of themselves. Biden already has the requisite decades of experience, so all he needed to do, really, was touch on the breadth of his experience, and show a little of his compassion off to counter his opponent's charm, which I thought he did very well. Frankly I would be a lot more comfortable with the Democrats if the nominees were reversed, that would make a lot more sense.

I thought all Presidents had political, economic. foreign policy, etc. advisors. No president knows everything about everything. That's what advisors are for. As for her being dumber than Bush, I beg to differ from your opinion.

Considering that she has been in the limelight for such a short time, and that the media has been really nasty and trying their hardest to put her down, I felt that she is far better than Bush in many respects. For starters she speaks English far better than Bush, she has a lot of charm which is very important in foreign policy, and she can say Achmedinejad's name without stutering like Bush or even McCain do.

She obviously needs to do a lot of homework, but I got the impression from yesterday's debate that she's a fast learner and far smarter than Bush.

Biden was clear and concise with his answers where Palin kept diverting questions asked to her and taking every chance to rip into Obama (even though Biden kept proving her wrong). LOL

Biden won the debate, but overall it was a moral victory for the 'pubs since Palin actually lasted that long without making a total fool out of herself..

As an "independent" I will start off by saying it was not even close to a bloodbath or anything close on either side as the media speculated it would be.

Now as far as who I feel came out on top. It was Biden without a doubt. I noticed on more then one occasion Palin went off track during questions. I do give her credit for the effort, but I cant imagine her as president if something was to happen.

As of now I am going to go on the record and say My vote will be for Obama/Biden

Well done, DB ... after all, we should all get along regardless of politics and political discussions IMHO. :talk: :hearts:

Here was my public prediction before the debate:
Biden's answers will need to be truncated, as well ... and he'd best be served to ignore Palin and go after McCain and his close attachment to the failed policies of the last four years (which the country simply can't afford), IMHO.

I predict no major gaffes or "game changers" ... due to this revised format.

:bingo:

Biden executed masterfully, and Palin fared better than expected ... the debate reinforced that Biden is informed, qualified, and ready to be Vice President and that the policies of the past four years cost McCain/Palin the presidency, IMHO. I would go on to say that while Palin is still extremely immature ("I've only been doing this for five days", and other overly folksy comments) and ill informed, she may one day be a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Alaska (if she doesn't end up being jailed or censored for her role in the "troopergate" scandal), IMHO. :guilty:

Congrats to #1 Obama/Biden, the polls and, more importantly, delegate counts are now heavily in their favor! :music:
McCain has already conceded the State of Michigan ... and Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virgina, even Colorado and Florida have - or are in the process of - turning blue.

Palin is such a phoney. She thinks she can fool americans with her everyman act. I really hope people don't fall for that. It was totally planned as its all she has.
