To those who wonder why we don't like political threads here at NP, I wish I could show you the number of emails and messages I've received lately from members who are upset about it. Very few topics bring out emotions in the way politics does. Very few topics create such a divide amongst members. Heck, even me... if I posted my own personal feelings about this election and the parties involved... it would almost surely cause hard feelings among people I consider friends. Anyway...

This will be the one-and-only (OFFICIAL) thread on tonight's VP debate. Post away and enjoy it.

One of the most interesting posts I have read in all of the political threads. Thanks domainace! And I am an Obama supporter. Well supporter is a stretch, I didn't donate or campaign for him or anything like that. Even after reading this, and assuming it's mostly true I will still be voting for him. I just trust him more than McCain. Obama is far more intelligent than both McCain/Palin and we all know McCain is bought and paid for by big oil. I don't "trust" any politicians besides maybe Ron Paul or Nader but I can only see tougher times for U.S. if the Republicans stay in control of the White House. My .02.......

if i wasn't such a skeptic and cynic....i wouldn't be surprised if 'the system' arranged it so that Obama does win.... i mean think about it... you've got a charming, well spoken, young politician that gets along with everybody.... paired up with an old man and hockey mom from Alaska.

part of me hopes that Obama is really 'real' , but then the other part of me thinks back to 2000, when i was fooled by a charismatic GWB.

Who am i kidding, we're all screwed people....govt will never change. if you want anything in this world, be ready to work for it, and make your own dreams and destiny come true. if you're waiting for the govt to come around and be on your side, or help you out, you will be screwed.

Palin is such a phoney. She thinks she can fool americans with her everyman act. I really hope people don't fall for that. It was totally planned as its all she has.

This will be "my only post here". Palin isn't the only phony, they are both phonies. They are running for Vice President. Just like Obama and McCain, they will promise the world now to get elected. Whoever wins will do about 1/3 of what they promised. Another 1/3 Congress won't let them do. The last 1/3 they never intented to do.

Don't believe me? Thats's ok. See in 4 years who did what.

Oh please, please tell me why his muslim upbringing scares you. and tell me what is so wrong with practicing the muslim religion.

tell me what scares you about the muslim americans? what have they done to you? what crimes have they committed against you?

are you sure about that? 19 people not associated with any formal government were able to turn this country inside and out. look at the power 19 individuals had in attacking this country? war isn't always annonced. look at pearl harbor? what kind of warning did we get?

Back when the war in Iraq was getting heavy, i'd watch the news on Al-Jazeera...and while i didn't really understand the news anchor, cuz i don't understand modern standard arabic (what's spoken on the news channels) i'd see the images.

I remember seeing a mother crying and holding her dead child in her arms asking why this was happening to them? what did they do to the US?

I remember my dad making a comment saying that 'they shouldn't be so emotional'. but how can you NOT get emotional? you're holding the body of your dead child in your arms. How could someone not go crazy with pain and grief????

Why does his Muslim upbringing scare me?

Because that empowers him to have relations with the middle east, that are not in the best interest of the US.

They committed a crime against my country by hijacking our planes and flying them into the World Trade Center Towers. That was a crime against me.

Am i sure about the US not being attacked by another country?

I am 100% sure, Are you aware of nuclear missiles we have , their ranges, and the fact that we have the power to destroy the world?

Here is a good question, If the Muslims in US, are so struck because the American people do like them, then why don't they go to the middle east, where they can practice their religion, be with their own people.

If the US borders were tight like they are now, the fact is, we wouldn't even be talking about this. and i would be one very happy person.

Then you add the fact millions have gotten citizenship, and had children here that are born Americans. All that may be one of the biggest mistakes the US has ever made.

And that does not just pertain to Muslims, that pertains to all illegal immigrants that entered the US, WE DO NOT LIKE THEM, and for good reason, they get Government money, they get or have gotten free housing, they get or have gotten free food.

We have red blooded born Americans, Veterans of our military, living on the streets, getting ZERO!

You asked how willing are the American people willing to fight, You have no idea how willing the American people are willing to take back their country, and fight for their country.

No.

Why would you ask this?

I made absulutely no false accusations.

I don't "DO NOT" have to come from a bar to say "I LOVE MY COUNTRY" and care about MY COUNTRIES future and who I DO NOT LIKE.

-* I may actually go to a bar next weekend for a Bachelor party.

Not a fact. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, after it had become a state.

John McCain was born in Panama. He could actually become the first US President not born in the United States.

LMFAO, But it isn't it the truth

Here is the thing on the racial side of things, If any person other than a african american, says ...ummmmm..Black Beans........ there is automatically chants of racism.

African Americans have promoted their way of living for many years. Boys In The Hood, House Party and on and on, A bucket of chicken or a 40oz bottle of beer is most usually included. along with BBQ's, Lots of hair products, Guns, shooting hoops in the hood, OOOOO shit, White Boys Can't Jump, Remember that movie? ect-ect

And every one knows, Just as White people make fun of the way black people live, Black people make fun of the way white people live, It has been going on for decades, I don't expect it to go away any time soon.

So now i guess i will hear chants of racism in my post.

Wrong! That is the way it is, that is reality, and you know it.

I'm not pointing fingers, but there definitely is a lot of racism still prevalent in America --more than most people would like to admit.

Many people try to brand Obama as unexperienced, or from "muslim heritage" that can't be trusted, or whatever mis-truth is going around email today... while the real reason is no more complicated than the color of his skin.

I just hope if he is elected that these feelings can be put aside, because like it or not, it would be a historical moment for this country and a testament to how far we've come in the last 50 years. I for one will be a proud American.

I didn't answer you because, quite frankly, some of the viewpoints and rhetoric, not to mention the wholly inaccurate statements and characterizations being made, scare me and leave me speechless.

I wouldn't, in any case, have a problem electing an official based on religion, provided he was competent and trustworthy to carry out the aims and functions of his (or her office).

Regardless of his heritage, Obama has stated his first duty would be to the American people and the office of the President.

Further, check this out:

Is it true that when Obama was sworn into office he used the Koran (Qur'an) instead of the Bible?

No. According to news accounts Barack Obama placed his hand on his personal Bible during his Senate swearing-in ceremony, which was conducted by Vice-President Dick Cheney. Those making this allegation have apparently confused Obama with Congressman Keith Ellison, who actually is a Muslim and was sworn in on January 4, 2007 using a copy of the Koran.

Did Obama's mother go on to marry another Muslim named Lolo Soetoro who "educated his stepson as a good Muslim by enrolling him in one of Jakarta's Wahabbi schools?"

... CNN has tracked down the school in question, the Basuki School in Jakarta, which a deputy headmaster described as a "public school" with no particular religious agenda. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment," he told CNN. A classmate of Obama's described the school as "general," with students of many religious backgrounds attending. Obama entered the school at the age of 8 and attended for two years.

Let's get this thread back on topic, shall we? This is the VP Debate thread.. not the Obama is a Muslim thread.

I have no real opinions on the VP's other than I was more impressed by Biden than I'd thought I'd be and Palin was charming and performed adequately but I'd never vote for a McCain/Palin ticket.

On the other stuff you posted, of course i disagree, but that is why we all voice an opinion, It is our opinion, our position on the subject.

A lot of off topic posting, Yes, But one post leads to another of expression, And this being such a serious debate, will most usually bring that.

While these threads tend to get really heated most of the time, I am glad to see this one has not.

what about the nations that we are allies with?????

04-26_DU.jpg

what about the existing relations we have with the middle east? i personally would rather have a guy in office that has knoweldge about other cultures, religons, and customs?

They committed a crime against my country by hijacking our planes and flying them into the World Trade Center Towers. That was a crime against me.

Did you know that one of the firefighters on ground zero during the 9/11 attacks was a muslim? do you know how many doctors, scientists, and engineers working in this country are muslim?

'They' is 19 people. 19 people committed a crime, and now you are ready to just hate a whole nation and whole religion.

How many thousand people died from 9/11 from these 19 people who have weren't backed buy a muslim country? now, how many muslims died at the hands of US forces?

I would like to add that it was not the muslims that massacred the NATIVE American Indians to get there hands on this land....but to suggest that all Christians are to blame for what their ancestors did to the American Indians and African Americans is just as ridiculous.

.X. said:

your 'founding fathers' and i use this term very loosely because they would be applauded to read the above line....came to this country to escape people like you.

all i want is to practice my religion without the government getting in my face.

Then you add the fact millions have gotten citizenship, and had children here that are born Americans. All that may be one of the biggest mistakes the US has ever made.

what about the American born Muslim converts, i bet you're ready to get them deported to.

My father came to this country over 40 years ago with nothing in his pockets. he worked his ass off and never asked anything of anybody. he's never committed a crime, never caused a problem. why do you think he should not have been able to get into this country? because of how he prays?

And that does not just pertain to Muslims, that pertains to all illegal immigrants that entered the US, WE DO NOT LIKE THEM, and for good reason, they get Government money, they get or have gotten free housing, they get or have gotten free food.

the illegal immigrants did not ruin this country, kid. the guys on wall street and the guys in Washington are doing the damages....but they are blaming the ones that do not have a voice.

the illegal immigrants are here fine....who's sending your jobs out to mexico, india, and china?

you blame the illegals for the problems....but there real problems lie in the policies and decisions, made by your government in the interests of the corporations.

We have red blooded born Americans, Veterans of our military, living on the streets, getting ZERO!

once again, not the fault of the immigrants....you can thank your heros in washington...

Does walter reed strike any feelings for you? The same people that sent the veterans off to war have the same power to help the men/women when they return....but to this country and government but the men and women in the services are EXPENDABLE ...otherwise they'd take better care of them.

You asked how willing are the American people willing to fight, You have no idea how willing the American people are willing to take back their country, and fight for their country.

congratulations....you sound just like a terrorist. am i going to wake up and find a cross burning on my front lawn tommorrow?

but more importantly, and as I assumed you did not name 1 thing about the islamic religion that you hate so much...and my guess is that you don't have a clue about anything...except what you hear on the news or in sunday church.

I only know what i read Dave, Just as you do.

If you have no problem with a US President having a Muslim heritage, then that is your position. I respect that, and obviously a lot of people do not have a problem with it as well. Obama may very well win this election.

I am only going off of what i have read through research, and posting my opinion based off that research.

While these threads tend to get really heated most of the time, I am glad to see this one has not.

i find this very funny, since your statements are racist against the Muslims.

I've been hesitant to openly announts that I am a Muslim, because it makes little difference....it doesn't matter what your religon is, i believe that everybody regardless of their beliefs can work and get along together. I believe that religon should be kept private, because it just leads to arguing, which is counter productive.

I was born in Houston tx...even though i lived in lebanon for a few years, was raised here in the US. My step mom and husband are converts from christianity. My father was a syrian ......oohhhh from a country 'not in your best interest'. That makes me a second generation arab i guess....my son a third generation...but you'd never guess cuz the kid's got the bluest eyes, the lightest skin, and blonde hair. years ago, you would have never guessed i was a muslim either....i guess now it would be a dead giveaway since i have CHOSEN to wear a head cover. funny story, a lady actually tried to convert me to christianity at a chucky cheese a few weeks back. funny story, but it diverts off the topic at hand.

If you want to know how 'muslim' my family is....let's just say my family's lineage (family tree) can be traced to the prophet.....i try not to mention it or make a big deal out of it, because i know that who your relatives are doesn't not guarantee you salvation...but it's your faith, actions deeds, how you treated people in your life, how you lived your life, and relationship with God.....but like i said, don't get me started on religion....i also don't mention it because sometimes i feel like i don't deserve such an honor....if you knew some of the religous people in my family, you'd understand.

if you want to know how the muslims think, feel, or want....don't do 'research' just ask them... trust me, I know islam more than you will ever think to know....you've been brainwashed, kid...sorry to tell you...

like i said, if that helps you sleep at night, then let that be your comfort......

I am American Cherokee Indian, People who know me here are aware of that. I was born on the Cherokee Nation In Tahlequah Oklahoma. I lived there until i was 6 years old.

Trust me, I know what racism is. and i am not racist.

Nor would i burn a cross, I am a Christian

Kid? I am 46 years old.

I can only read about the Muslim religion, I have never attended a Muslim function or otherwise. so i can only read about it, and go off of what i read.

The same for Barrack Obama , I can only read and research, and base my findings to conclude an opinion.

I can understand you being defensive for your religion of Islam, I have said over and again, I respect all religions.

Have i been misinformed? That is possibility, but as i say, i can only read and research, and then come to a conclusion, leading to an opinion.

you site the negative aspects of a race, but you never balance it with the other side, the positive work that race has done..... you site the gangsters, thugs, and terrorists, but you don't site the doctors, lawyers, humanitarian workers that are busting their tail to make this world a better one.

seriously, get out more....travel the world, don't die a bitter old man/or woman what ever you might be irl

People who would put any sign in their yard, with racial slurs are pure ignorant, Immature, and full of hate.

I do see your point, and i do know your frustrations, I have been there being American Indian.

I learned as a small child, to ignore the ignorance of those who hate, but to be proud of my race, and stay within reality of racism.

My people became known as nothing but no good alcoholics in society. Well, society wasn't totally wrong, we had a major problem with alcoholism, and American Indians still do. so society judged us for what they saw. I am not a lazy, no good alcoholic, but my people have been branded that away, so people may look upon me the same way. It doesn't matter. I know i am not.

We can not claim stake to the land, we fought the early settlers for it, and we lost. A very bitter defeat, but we lost.

I think the sad part about religion, Is that so many wars have been fought over it, wars are still being fought over it, and will most likely continue to be fought over it.

I have no idea how many Muslims live in the US, but the only way we can distinguish between good from bad, is by what we are told, I have read on the Muslim religion, and have tried to understand the fundamentals of the religion, the religion is hard for me to interpret at times. perhaps i am interpreting it wrong.

If you have links that could better help me understand, could you PM them to me?

My point on racism was, It is out there, people do want to talk about it these days, they want to deny it, and say we have united and blah-blah, It is out there and alive, although much better than twenty years ago, It is still going strong. that was my whole point.

I like people of all races, I do not dislike ANYONE for the color of their of skin, we are born what race we are born, we have no choice.

If you want to label me a racist, that is your prerogative. I am not one though.

Stupid , Old, Scared, MFers like me, know what Obama can do to our country.

How you can write that Obama has more credentials than McCain is baffling.

I do not support either party in this election, Because no, I do not want four more years of Bush, But i do not want an inexperienced Obama either. So i am out.

There is no racial barrier for me, as to weather i would vote for Obama or not.

However, His Muslim up bringing and Muslim Heritage does scare the hell out of me.

Dave never answered me on this : No one is saying obsolete, that Obama is Muslim, Clearly Obama's child hood heritage was Muslim, there is no doubt that Obama has practiced the Muslim religion, Can we agree on that much?

Any one else have opinion to this ^^^ ?????????

That means nothing. I was raised as a Christian kid, and am not Aethiest - religions change all the time. Plus, why group all muslims together? I mean, if people thought Obama were to mess up, wouldn't Hilary be in his spot right now? I don't know, I think people are scared because he is a black Muslim, they don't look at what he can do for this country.
