Israel and Hungary are the best of recent examples where a wall or fence is over 99% efficient in stopping terrorism and illegal invaders.

Israel is in a war zone and a frequent target of suicide bombers and snipers.. We are not at war with Mexico nor are snipers or suicide bombers a border issue. We are more likely to have terrorists among the overstayers. Or homegrown civilian terrorists, which seems to be the trend.

Look up how much that Israeli wall (which is much shorter and makes much greater use of redundancy and smart technology than the proposed US wall) costs annually to maintain. The initial cost to build is just the tip of the iceberg.

If you install smart monitoring on the wall, you need to have people to respond to it. At some point the wall becomes at best secondary to these other measures. Walls are breachable - go over it or go under it. If someone’s desperate enough to walk thousands of miles through dangerous conditions, what makes you think fear of heights will stop them when their goal is in reach?

The issue isn’t about “open borders”, we all want secure borders. We just want to see it done right, and not waste billions of dollars and irreversibly destroy the local environment as a testament someone’s ego.

You make good points about how they will get down on the other side, If they do build it, and it looks like they will, I will see if I can get down to Laredo Tx and get actual footage of them building it. The President is keeping his promise, no one can dispute that.

He is keeping a promise, but the wrong one for the wrong reasons. You think his “promise” was founded on research and facts? It was not. This nonsense started as a mnenomic his campaign team used to remind him to talk about immigration at rallies. A catch phrase. A stupid marketing cue which took on a life of its own. Little detail which seems to keep getting lost - I posted the link to the Forbes article twice.

On the contrary... she actually talks common sense when it comes to getting the US out of perpetual wars and using the money saved to rebuild US infrastructure and on other projects that will benefit Americans...

I think .x. was being sarcastic. I know I was. I watched her on the View, with all those women cackling about Assad being a bad guy and shooting talking points. She was very measured and poised, especially since they seemed incapable of understanding her points. I probably wouldn't agree with most of her policies, but getting the US out of perpetual war would be a major improvement.

And she is easy on the eyes and ears.

And forgive me for stating the obvious but Israel is a minuscule country :xf.rolleyes:
And they spend nearly 5% of GDP on defense. But that still makes hundreds of kilometers to cover.
Also, the wall don't stop rockets overflying, although the Iron Dome defense system helps.

I don't really care whether Trump builds a wall. They burn tax dollars one way or another on all kinds of useless (at best) crap. A change of mindset and some real enforcement is all that's needed. The wall is a band-aid.

Stop coddling illegals. Send them back immediately. At the very least, stop offering them benefits, and have massive fines for people who knowingly hire people who are in the country illegally. If they can't work and don't get benefits, they won't come. If they still come and decide to engage in crime, treat them harshly.

The problem isn't the lack of wall. It's the lack of will.

Stop offering them reasons to come. They will stop coming.

”Inside Trump’s circle, the power of illegal immigration to manipulate popular sentiment was readily apparent, and his advisers brainstormed methods for keeping their attention-addled boss on message”

”Roger Stone and I came up with the idea of ‘the Wall,’ and we talked to Steve [Bannon] about it,” according to Nunberg. “It was to make sure he [Trump] talked about immigration.”

he tried it out at the Iowa Freedom Summit, a presidential cattle call put on by David Bossie’s group, Citizens United. ‘One of his pledges was, ‘I will build a Wall,’ and the place just went nuts,’ said Nunberg. Warming to the concept, Trump waited a beat and then added a flourish that brought down the house. ‘Nobody,’ he said, ‘builds like Trump.’”

Nunberg and Stone. No engineers, no immigration experts, just two slimy political consultants trying to sway their target audience. .That’s where your “wall” came from.

Then you gotta think, how can an illegal immigrant even apply for a firearm, pass the Brady bill check, when they are here illegally and are breaking the law!

Sanctuary cities my f*cking ass, the mayors of these cities should be arrested, the Governors of these states should be working with ICE and have thier state and local police involved in the apprehension of the Illegals.

NO ONE CAN BUY A FIREARM WITHOUT A BACKGROUND CHECK. You can give or sell a gun to a relative or friend that you know is eligible to own that gun. Same for letting them shoot it at a range.

If you sell a gun to anyone who doesn't have the paper to prove they're not ineligible to own a gun, it is a felony.

You can't buy a gun online or at a show without a background check. It's illegal to buy a gun and have it sent to your house. It has to be sent to a licensed dealer, where you pick it up... after they verify your not ineligible, i.e. a felon, violent misdemeanor.

Exceptions: Antique firearms.

Yes, we know he turned on Trump, lol. He just gave testimony on him. He's also still under investigation and if he lies during testimony, they can add more prison time. He has no reason to lie now, he's not beholden to Trump anymore.

Grand juries love witnesses who have been blackmailed. Which answers the "why" Muller didn't use Cohen.

They are already building it.

Almost a 1000 people a day cross the southern border illegally. Many more "unaccompanied minors" and children are making the journey b/c/ the 9th circuit court of appeals has blocked every attempt at rational enforcement.

CBP management and union leaders all say we need border walls.

You repeat stats you've read or heard on msnbc but you do not know what is being carried into our country or by who.

You claim the DNC doesn't support open borders but liberal cities, states refuses to cooperate with ICE. A large part of democrats in congress endorse eliminating ICE.

Instead of talking reform and security, democrats are advocating for chaos and anarchy

You continually ignore what the people on the ground who are responsible for enforcement say. Tactics used by smugglers are effectively countered by walls.

You're gas-lighting on why most Americans consider illegal immigration is a serious problem.

You've said nothing about actual immigration reform. You repeat false hypothesis why border walls don't work and argue against securing the border.

I gave two examples: Israel for keeping out suicide bombers and Hungary for keeping out illegal invaders after Angela Merkel gave a (y) for every Muhamed, Rashid and Abdul to come into Europe and live the "Dolce Vita" off the hardworking taxpayers money.

Very smart move by the Hungarians, who have been heavily criticized by most of the pathetic EU leaders for defending their own borders from illegal and ungrateful invaders.

Check out this short video of what happens when a train full of illegals arrived at a train station in Hungary on Sept. 3rd 2015.

Immigrants throw away the food and the water what they get ...

It's worth every penny, when you consider the hundreds of deaths, the thousands of injured and the damage it has prevented since it was built!

A 30ft wall/barrier is gonna make it sooooooo much more difficult to cross over or even under it.... simple common sense.

Once a 30ft wall is up, illegals from all over the world will know about it and won't walk thousands of miles through dangerous conditions to attempt a crossing... simple common sense.

Nothings been done right up till now and like I said. 5.7 billion $ is peanuts compared to the yearly costs of well over 100 billion in supporting illegals, many of them involved in criminal activity, which also has a cost and also the Americans they have killed, which you can't put a price tag on.

Nobody wants to go to Hungary. At some point a lot of refugees transited through the country (and others along what way), almost no-one remained there.
The Hungarian wall is another huge waste of money for national consumption (and corruption too, Orban and his cronies are biggest beneficiaries of taxpayer and EU money).
And Hungary is no longer a democracy today.

30-foot wall yeah right. Fund it with your own money and we'll call that the idiot tax.

No one remained there because there not welcomed or given free housing with generous stipends.

Liberals like to pretend the people migrating form ME and Africa were just grateful middle class families, they were not.

The Hungarian wall is another huge waste of money for national consumption (and corruption too, Orban and his cronies are biggest beneficiaries of taxpayer and EU money).

Cheaper than providing welfare and healthcare for hundreds of thousands.

And Hungary is no longer a democracy today.

I can only think of two democracies in the ME and north Africa,. Only one is tolerant of Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

People who advocate for open borders or mass migrations rarely consider the well being of middle class and poor citizens. Unorderly migration is a breeding ground for chaos and strife.

Novel idea, maybe the best way to encourage legal immigration is to make it easy and orderly to obtain through legal channels.

And Hungary is no longer a democracy today.
Really? winning 2/3 of the last election vote is NOT a democracy?
Hungary's Viktor Orban wins 'supermajority' for third consecutive term in office
  • With around 93 percent of the ballots counted, Hungary's National Election Office said Orban's ruling administration had secured almost half of the vote on Sunday.
  • The result is projected to keep the Fidesz party in power with a two-thirds majority — a key "supermajority" level which allows constitutional changes.
  • Orban, who is already the country's longest serving-leader since the fall of communism in 1989, has long been a thorn in the side of the European Union with Sunday's vote likely to mean further clashes between Budapest and Brussels over the next four years.

Pretty jaw-dropping to see gullible so-called republicans unquestioningly swallow that bullsh*t from the divisive right wing rags without doing a little critical thinking and unbiased research.

Kind of like a few years ago when the same people were in a panic that ACA was going to implement "death squads."
