On the 74th anniversary of D Day, a reminder of the sacrifices made to protect the free world, save our allies and defeat nazis and fascism.

Judging from the video of the girl at the beach, fascism wasn't defeated at all. People bleat about having freedom as it's stolen from under their noses.

Leave it to a Trump fan boy to resort to a personal attack because he has no facts to fight back.

Actually a sensible editorial. Considering the author and publication, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Well, let's remember history. it's not like the Japanese are angelic folks either, they remain hated by quite a few they oppressed older generation aged in WWII. Ask the older people in Philippines if they have fond memories of the Bataan march or the comfort women in Korea.

This kind of stuff is why I will never live in the US again. The police were clearly thugs, she was clearly right to be angry. And violence was completely uncalled for. Two 100 kg cops can't handle a little girl in a bikini?

She was peacefully sitting on a beach when these thugs approached her. For the abhorrent crime of having a can of beer in plain sight nearby???

That so many Americans think this is in any way OK tells me the country is going to get a lot worse before people start to wake up. At least this girl is not a sheep.

Sheep? Hmm. Respecting authority even if a security guard is just common sense, even if they are pricks or jerks.

This is like the Rodney King thing where the media edits it to their narrative. So I found the entire video.

That earlier one shows only what the media wants you to see. See this. She is not cooperating, she is a acting like an entitled snowflake POS. She gets on her phone, walks away, "You don't need my last name"... "Get over here" the officer says after she raises her objections, she refuses at 3:41 and then hits the officer at 3:51.... please..... I stand by what I wrote before. She is down on the ground, still yelling and resisting his controlling her.

"You're not allowed to beat me"... see she thinks she deserves special treatment.
She is yelling and screaming- no way did she had a gob of sand in her mouth- see her deliberately spit at him at 5:22.

There is a clear disrespect of authority, especially among young people in the U.S. Her attitude set the officer off, she escalated it also first of all she throws here hands up against the officer- right there was what set him off. At that point, he should have just cuffed her and left her there.

The spitting may have been intentional or just spitting out sand.

Intentional if you see the entire video. She was yapping and yelling without sand in her mouth then rotates her head up and spits in his face.

Even after she is cuffed, she continues on and on and on. Yelling, no sign of any remorse or respect.

I am alive now, not 80 years ago. 80 years ago, a young woman on the beach would not have been harassed for drinking a beer, much less for just being in reach of one. (Incidentally, the more you learn about Korean comfort women, the worse it makes Koreans look. They are hardly a bastion of women's rights today. They were complicit, and the issue was considered settled by both sides after a significant payment of reparations by Japan until they decided to stir it up again for political gain. The victims never saw much of those reparations given to the Korean govt by the way. Unlike the Philippines, younger Koreans are more vitriolic than the older generation about this issue, thanks to state propaganda.) This is all history, and a whole other topic, though.

This is about the US, and about today. There is no paradise on earth, but just about every developed country I know of has less aggressive law enforcement than in the US. The numbers of Americans in prison only make it look like more of a police state. If you were to mouth off to a cop here the way she did, they would either walk away, or maybe detain you if they had a good reason for stopping you. Certainly in a minor case like this there would be no trial. The person would likely go home after a few hours and an apology in a local koban. The criminal system leaves a lot to be desired here, but it helps that not every little thing is criminalized, and that the police are generally polite and unobtrusive.

"You're not allowed to beat me"... see she thinks she deserves special treatment.

What? Not being beaten is special treatment?? You are not doing a good job of refuting my position here.

I watched the whole video. She was mouthy and not particularly respectful. On the other hand, the police decided to intrude on her day at the beach with her infant daughter over a can of beer of all things. I wouldn't be too happy either. If there's a law against possessing a beer at the beach (which is an odd law to begin with, but it's America, where most everything is against the law), then surely they could have walked up and said that the beer has to be disposed of. Instead, they went into the whole "we are the boss" mode, asking her name, asking for identification, demanding she take a breath test. Twice.

Why escalate it that way? Bad enough there are so many restrictive laws in the US, the manner of enforcing the law is also important. Gentle manners and gentle enforcement go a long way, and it was the police who started off as intimidating jerks. They became thugs when they punched her. They must be proud.

There is a clear disrespect of authority, especially among young people in the U.S.

There is a clear disrespect that the authorities show for people in the US, starting at the top with a massively overgrown and destructive government. The police are just the enforcement arm of that contempt.

I will say that the police have a lot of work to do, with the steady decline of society and civility among the populace. That decline, I think, has been caused mostly by the state working to dismantle social and family mores to replace them with government regulation and state-issued punishment.

The number of people who say that girl got what she deserved disheartens me more than anything. A corrupt government is one thing. But the people.... America has a long hard road ahead.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr on White House controversy:

"I'm blown away by the irony of the Eagles being disinvited. โ€ฆ Instead we just have these military sing-a-longs at The White House to show how patriotic we are, even though we donโ€™t know the words."

The beach incident: Totally being blown out of proportion. One incident and you think THATs an indication the countryโ€™s sinking into fascism? They were class 2 temporary officers, ie not regular members of the force, and itโ€™s still under investigation. Theyโ€™ll sort it out.

Itโ€™s apparent from all the sheep analogies that you guys have never worked sheep in your life, or tried to get a pissed off 200 lb ewe to move. And nothing creepier than walking up to the field and have hundreds of those freaky looking square pupils turn and stare at you.

1- These kinds of incidents are daily. Even just the heavy handed behavior of law enforcement at airports and events is way beyond anything anyone should be used to.
2- More than these incidents, it's the significant numbers of people on both the left and the right who see it as normal, or even support it. Americans think nothing of it, though I am quite sure future generations will wonder why not.

You are probably right about sheep having more of a mind than we give them credit for. I only hope the same is true of Americans.

She actually got less than she deserved! They could have tased her, used a nightstick, billy club, baton on her, like cops used to do! She was on probation for assault, was not complying with the police officers commands. She was breaking the law, and deserved a summons (even though most agree it's a ridiculous NJ law) Yet it is still the law! She was abusive, mouthy, assaulted the police twice, spit at them, cursed at them, disturbed the peace, broke the law, lied etc. What's more disheartening is the amount of people on this thread, that think the police should ignore the laws they are sworn to uphold, just because we don't like that law! It's ridiculous, and is more of the reason (lawlessness) that society is so on edge, the police are on edge and with cameras everywhere now, we will see more and more of this. When the cops ask you to do something in the name of law, you have two choices: Comply or take your chances that you may die, be shot, be beaten, tased, arrested, detained, handcuffed or abused! So comply! Anything else makes you a scofflaw and/or pretty stupid!

As far as ordinary police forces go, there are good cops and bad ones. Some places seem to have a culture of the bad ones. The good ones don't make the headlines, they just do their job.

ICE is a concern.

This would not have happened in Japan either. No such laws for beach alcohol required in Japan. The Japanese donโ€™t purposely go out in the sun to sit in the sun, but prefer pale milky white skin instead as you know. In fact some carry umbrellas, so not sure how many sunny days or drunken beach incidents might ever occur. I believe culturally, in the same situation a Japanese girl would have immediately complied, at least of my generation and done so to not be โ€œlosing faceโ€, among their peers so not be mouthing off to authority in the first place either. Donโ€™t you think it isnโ€™t really comparable?

Inane Laws were created because common sense is not common. People in large crowds get drunk and fight and endanger those around them. Especially with societal changes, I donโ€™t disagree the U.S. has huge problems. I donโ€™t live there either and her attitude isnโ€™t rare and one of many reasons why I left. The same reason why MADD came into being in the 80โ€™s car accidents occur, people die while drinking and driving. Not many economical public transport options in many of the states with trains there in Japan or like in Europe to go home drunk safely.

The officers started out polite, they saw a potential volation so they were doing their job. They should have cuffed her immediately, then they never would have had to get into the fight. You never walk away from officers like she did.

It is illegal to have alcohol on the beaches on LA, cannot speak to New Jerseyโ€™s laws. She had an โ€œopen containerโ€ and from what I could tell on video and was drinking, and marginal or illegal on the breathilzer. The reason for the law is to prevent other people on the beach in having to deal with her drunken behavior around *their* families, its โ€œnot all about herโ€, her little narcisisstic attitude. She put on a fit like a child. Her parents are also to blame obviously being the ones who raised her to be the snotty bitch she became. The alcohol maybe is exactly why her judgement was so poor.

Law enforcement is rather aggressive in the US, I think part of the problem is that when you have elected judges and sheriffs, they have no incentive to be lenient, they don't want to be perceived as being soft on crime. That's why you have abusers like Arpaio, a cartoon character straight from the Wild West times. End result: the US has more people in prison than any other country on Earth.
PS: many people also get killed by police in the US during law enforcement operations, in SWAT raids or in custody. The figures aren't good and show a pattern of brutality.
