My concern is censorship and freedom of speech issues. Steel or aluminum or other commodities can be had from different sources... totally different things.
Everything you buy at Wal-mart already comes from China anyway.
The US is risky too. For example hosting data on servers owned by US companies is risky, even when the servers are abroad. For the NSA even the phone calls of law-bidding citizens are fair game. The Stasi would blush at the overreach of the US government.

Aerospace grade aluminum and processing is not simply a comodity, nor are exotic nickel alloys, not the same as beer cans. I could care less about beer aluminum, I wish they would glass bottle everything, and eliminate plastic bottles too. Really bad on pollution, on reliance on petrochemical, etc. This technology is known by few, hence why chinese came and in early 90โs bought up entire factories machines, I watched it occur auction after auction. Huge machines too.
I avoid Walmart as much as possible. Its all wrong headed for all this chasing the money around the globe to find cheaper labor. Most all capitalist countries are guilty of it. There are entry level jobs for existing residents, kids dont even deliver papers or mow lawns anymore.
There WAS an healthy Aerospace industry in So Cal 1950-1989. WAS a garment industry in NYC too. A Furniture industry in Carolinas. An Electronics Semiconductor industry in San Jose CA. Lots of tax dollars, jobs and mouths fed. Post WW2, Then Japan reinvented itself rapidly and things started to go offshore.
The non manufacturing service industry isnโt good for sovereignity of ANY country, to rely on imports. Brazil is baffling to me, they have no basic need to import much of anything, unlike the rest of the world.
The US and NSA spying is all really wrong, I am very angry about this โPatriot Actโunwarranted suveillance Bush 2 started based on the fears of 9/11. All of The western world (Including EU) is tied into it anyway, I know you donโt trust Facebook as stated before, neither do I or any big tech. But, you are from EU I assume, so Chinese undercutting Pechany and German fabrication plants who choose or have chosen on imported Alum and Steel reliance, an entire industry will be lost.
China will continue as always being censors and control no doubt at all.
