Haiti shares the same Island as the Dominican Republic, they both share the same storms, hurricanes and earthquakes and yet one is a sh*ithole while the other is a fairly popular tourist destination and they roll some great cigars that are just as good as the Cuban ones...

What politically correct word would a Liberal use to describe a Sh*thole country?

"Politically incorrect" seems to have become a euphemism for "acting like a dick."

Haitians have suffered from extreme political upheaval for over a century - brutal dictators, military coups and widespread government corruption. That's what destroyed the country and its economy.

Irish immigrants came here to escape famine and poverty. Germans largely for political reasons, Italians to escape poverty and for political reasons. They all came here to build a better life for themselves and for their families. What makes Haitians any different?

No, immigration doesn't solve issues of poverty or politics in the country of origin, but it gives people affected by these things a way out and hope for a better life.

Because in the end of the day, regardless of ethnicity, everyone everywhere wants the same basic things: A roof over our heads, enough to eat, a safe place to raise a family, and reason to believe that our kids and grandkids will have it the same or better.

Employee pressed wrong button. Even online, there are many times you do something, like delete something, and I get an "Are you sure?" prompt. Correction went out 38 minutes later. I guess some people were in a panic, thinking a missile was actually on the way.

I don’t know how many of you have been to the DR.
Haitians come into the DR and like most immigrants, they are economic immigrants. They do beautiful construction work I have seen first hand some of them, old world cement sculpture techniques seen in Europe architecture details. They have cool artwork too. I have met good ones and bad ones like anybody or any other culture. There are probably more thieves preying on tourists in Prague than Santiago or Santo Domingo, IMO.

Many Haitians work hard and like Latinos in the US some are exploited illegal laborers in the DR. Then the other faction of criminals arrive and cause huge problems. Haitians (speak Patua) dont simply know Spanish, so they have to learn when they arrive. The DR is a fairly nationalistic or “Racist” (for lack of a better term country), against Haitians, and more so than the US! The claims the mainstream media talking head Morons who have never ever been there to see either end of Hispanola country is of course telling only a part of the story. The DR and Haiti have had a brutal history too.

Haiti remains in ruins, year after year and at bottom of economic GDP in western hemisphere, for all sorts of reasons.

In the DR there have been repeated Haitian deportations, there is no wall they just gather up the buses and the DR now after realizing their own immigration problem wont allow “anchor” babies automatic citizenship either. They had more balls than the US armchair politically correct. But nobody talks about that. Its all this hoopla over Trump and his non diplomatic style and comments continually. I don’t agree with his choice of words nor like to read about his in-your-face comments and feel there is much political capital being lost, instead of being gathered with his derogatory comments. What he says if were made more palatable, common sense would prevail. Haiti is a huge mess. Its nearly impossible to do business there for many reasons, so they stagnate in their mess. People are still living in tents years now after the Earthquake last time I spoke to a Haitian friend last year.

There should be scholarship funds for good students from Western hemisphere countries to come to the US solely for education and entrepreneurial training. Then groups of them partnering together, and AND promising to return to start businesses. But the US American lifestyle “corrupts” most immigrants who would prefer not return to where they came from.
I watched a good documentary on this, need to look it up.

There are good and bad places everywhere. There are places in America I wouldn't walk around in the daytime. Places falling apart, crime etc. To label a whole place as a shithole, is stupid, not a good look for the President. What's also not a good look are you guys continually trying to excuse him.
