Sadly, you are probably right. Roosevelt, despite his fascist tendencies and complete destruction of the economy, is remembered as one of the best presidents. People don't care about history, they care about what looks good on a t-shirt.

Indeed, venerated men like Roosevelt or Roosevelt have a dark face too, that official historiography doesn't talk about much.

I think that down the road, Obama along with Bush, will be remembered as a president responsible for the turning the US into a surveillance state. He's also the president who couldn't shut down Guantanamo and did nothing to reverse the disintegration of constitutional freedoms.
The sad thing is that all candidates seem to be pro-surveillance, anti-freedom, anti-privacy, anti-human rights.
No matter what, the abuse will continue.
I wonder why surveillance isn't a stake in the upcoming elections. Don't people care ?
