You don't think that's a bit over the top?

You'd be surprised. There are a lot of people that had more in a psuedo-communist landscape than they now have in a pseudo-capitalist landscape.

Freedom is a concept that is wonderful - unfortunately it is attached to with the ball and chain that is corporatism and uncontrolled free capitalism.

Detroit filed for bankruptcy. A city that once had 2 million souls now has only 700.000. It can take police nearly an hour to respond to a 911 call, while the national average is 11 minutes.

At night, many streets and even freeways are dangerously shrouded in darkness because tens of thousands of street lights don't work. Crime is rampant and public services are nearing collapse

The 1967 riots, subsequent white flight, super corrupt city officials and sheeple that continually voted for these crooks did the rest.

The perfect example of what Liberals/Progressives can do to a city, when in power for too long

Why look at 60 years of history to understand the decline? What on earth would be the point of that?

I suggested something the same, only using China, was called crazy. Of course, common sense seems crazy in crazy times.

As long as there's food on the table, and the tanks are rolling through somebody else's neighborhood and not ours, it's all good.

Speaking of tanks, from the WSJ...

Seems these military style raids are already accepted.

It was crazy.

In general the media do a poor job of informing people on the state of affairs.
Not that I need media reports to be aware, any sane individual unless blind and deaf should realize there are many things that are very wrong. The visible tip of the iceberg being disturbing enough. But people tend to rationalize everything, ignore the bad omens, hope for the best and make excuses - then it becomes denial.
We all understand there is no perfect world, but what's interesting here is:
- the scale of the violations
- there is a conspiracy

As I have said, many people just don't care because, they don't know what freedom is. They would have been equally happy living in the former USSR if it weren't for the comfort.
The great achievement of the 'system' is that most believe they are FREE. To some extent, that is true, but big chunks of freedom are being taken away from you nonetheless.
A long leash around your neck doesn't mean you are 'free', it just means you are better off than another slave.

That's an interesting way of looking at things. So people who are free to travel the world, because they don't have some irrational fear of fingerprints/government, are on some leash/slaves? But you, who are scared to leave the country because of it, are free? Doesn't really make much sense.

Are you sure that's the goal?

Most likely. But maybe they're also getting some skin/dna. Maybe they have future plans to plant some evidence and throw people in prison for something. Maybe they're cataloging humans as sources of meat in the future, just in case, Soylent Green territory. Or maybe, it's just what they said it's for.

Lowest common denominator.
I'm outta here.
Was it Mark Twain who said it's easier to con a man than it is to convince him he has been conned?

That one sounds familiar but can't find who said it, doesn't look like Mark Twain. But what you said I think refers to all the people that are constantly conned by conspiracy theory types. They're very easy to monetize. Tried searching and this is the only one I found about Mark Twain and con, and one I agree with:

“Religion was invented when the first con man met the first fool.”

That's very random, just a link drop. Anything behind it?

Some say that that "random" link is a goverment document that makes it criminal to protest near any "important" building. However it is clear, as always, that if you are a law abiding citizen and no threat to the system then you have nothing to fear, since you will not be able to make any fundimental change with out being labeled a "threat". Cosmetic changes happen often.

Talk about easy to monitize, democrats and republicans, oh yea! $$$! Obama is a master monitizer.
I am sure wiki can confirm this, or other goverment documents, if that matters. Republicans and Democrats are by far easier and more lucrative to monitize by a wide margin.

What is the big uproar about prism et al anyway? If the goverment is hiding things, telling straight up lies, and has us in a state of total surveillance then it must be for our own good, right?! As long as you are not criminal or a terrorist then what do you have to hide?

Are you referring to the House vote on limiting the scope of NSA domestic data gathering? What a fiasco that is/was.

In a Republican held House, the bill to limit NSA was introduced by a Republican and Democrat, but opposed by several Republican and Democrat leaders, including President Obama.

votes against the bill to restrict the NSA:
Republicans - 134 Democrats - 83 = 217

Vote to restrict the NSA:
Republicans - 94 Democrats - 111 = 205

Bill to restrict NSA was defeated by 12 votes: 217 to 205

Ironically, 12 members of the House didn't vote.

" The camera on your TV might be watching you

It's like living in a glass house. NSA must be loving it "

Never! Stop being so tinfoil hat like. Nothing but conspiracy theories! Did you find proof of the TV watching you on wiki? Everyone knows that CNN preys on conspiracy theorists since they are easy to monitize.
