I can't help but think of what diseases we may have cured over the last 10 years if medical research got all the money we spent on war.

But we've made vast improvements to prostheses.

Who or what is Brooksley Born?
Google Booksley Born...YOU will get a mouth full. She was right and Alan Greenspan and his minions were wrong. They KNEW it at the time. They wanted the 2008 meltdown. Destroying the middle class was always their goal.
Heck, I knew back in late '90s this was going to happen. I lived in Atlanta and watched the ridiculous home prices...everyone couldn't work for Coke. They wanted middle class to over leverage themselves...and the damn middle class fell for it.

That is in essence what I have said for years.
And still say.
Plus have term limits.
Plus have strict pay limits.
This is for every single government position!
Including federal judges and the supreme court.
Then move into the states, counties, cities, towns.

Ah the USA is so politicized from the local precinct to the presidential election.

LIBOR...Been reading quite a bit about that (and not from the liberal media, as stated they are damn quiet about this).
And how everyone has probably been overpaying on interest on a loan of any type, how it affects the cost of goods and services, and more.
Again, for this I have always said, let not the market, the government or banks set interest rates, but have one maximum interest rate that will be the rate for any loan.
6% is really the top rate it should be!
Be cautious what you wish for...We need talented, well educated people running our country. IF you would get 100% term limits, the real power would be the 1000's of aids that work for the politicians. They would be nameless/faceless power brokers. It is like the secretary to the CEO of a fortune 100 company. She has survived many bosses over 40 years.
Ever wonder WHY the SEC can not prosecute Wall Street?..Wall Street is smarter than they are!

Would you not differentiate between secured and non-secured loans?

A flat rate interest would be interesting. Banks would probably treat them more like a pawn shop loan, making you put up your house, car, factory, etc. depending on the size of the loan.

Would probably make customer service much better if the rates were the same all over.

Might be the same if 6% was a rate cap. Would be fun to see rate wars between banks.

.

So all loans would need to be secured? How would you provide a loan to entrepreneurs who provide high-risk? Poor people?

It sounds easy, in principle.

I have no idea how a completely new banking system would work. I'm not sure it even sounds easy in principle; that's reserved for a flat tax.

Found this pretty interesting. About gun control and a topic discussed here in the forum, 3d printing:

On NBC’s Tonight Show, host Jay Leno said,

“And in a groundbreaking move, the Associated Press, the largest news gathering outlet in the world, will no longer use the term ‘illegal immigrant.’ That is out. No longer ‘illegal immigrant.’ They will now use the phrase ‘undocumented Democrat.’ That is the newest – ‘undocumented Democrat.’”

No wonder NBC is gonna kick Jay Leno out. They don't like him telling the truth in his jokes. :o

They should also change the name "Associated Press" to "Administration Press"

"O'Reilly says that civil rights is a 'compelling' argument for gay marriage, and conservatives won't win if they just reference ('thump') the Bible. Ingraham says conservatives can do better but that, yes, 'thump,' is an insult."

Also, the Tea Party boycotting Fox again

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/tea-part...news-because-they-dont-cover-benghazi-enough/

Or Tea Party and Karl Rove going at each other.

Goes into what I said much earlier in the thread. The Republicans have a problem. The catered to the far right for so long, when the country was/is moving more to middle/left. So what do they do? Move more to middle, which they're trying to do now but then they alienate the far right. Don't think that can work out.

Or in the religious thread, about North Carolina

"First Amendment doesn't apply here: N.C. lawmakers push bill for state religion"

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...c-lawmakers-push-bill-for-state-religion?lite

Christian conservatives feeling a lot more heat as time goes on, they know they're losing grasp and going to try to fight. But when they do, their hate gets exposed more, furthering their decline even more.

So it's interesting to watch these little things play out. Lot more infighting coming. What's the identity of the party going to be?

not sure if exposure of "hate" on any political side means -decline-In fact it could attract more people.

Just the hateful type, not decent folk. Kind of like with Gandhi and the Civil Rights movement, here and other places. When change starts to happen, the hateful get louder, helping their own downfall. Front and center where everybody can see.

Maybe, but if you can package and sell it then it can win an election. Its just a matter of editing a little. In any case it wont change much anyway if they republicans argue over this or that while having an identity crisis. It is similar to swiching up your coffee selection. Gandhi was used as the least threating person to deal with. Not sure how that relates to hate or republicans since the british didnt "hate" India they just wanted to rule it.

A little off topic.

:imho:
Well I don't have much interest in US politics but one thing I know about it is that republican party mostly consists of rich fundamentalist christians, wealthy atheists and very very wealthy jews.
The dems are also rich but they come from mostly middle class, they are intelligent and not so keen on conquering the world. So my moral support naturally goes to the democrates. :)
Just voted in your poll and it seems most people here are in favor of the democrates. Good to know. :xf.love:

They looked at the Indian people with utter contempt and sucked the country dry. Go there today and you can still hear the sounds of a straw slurping the last few drops from the cup.

Well according to the New York Times (a liberal newspaper that kisses Obama's ass most of the time) this is not true. More rich people voted for Obama than for the Republicans. You see, Obama bailed out the big banks and corporations so they voted for him. Hollywood (lots of rich people there) voted mostly for the Democrats. Rich people will vote for whoever protects their wealth.

How Did Rich People Vote, and Why? http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/11/how-did-rich-people-vote-and-why/

So according to you, since the Democrats are intelligent, then the Republicans are dumb.... right?

And what exactly did the Brits suck dry in India? A cup of tea?
