You were very vague in your statement that the Brits:
"sucked the country dry. Go there today and you can still hear the sounds of a straw slurping the last few drops from the cup."
Explain what they sucked dry and what are the last drops in a cup they are slurping. The only thing I could think of is tea, something the British introduced to India about 2 centuries ago.
EDIT: So from what I gather you're trying to imply that the British were evil as colonizers during their stay in India? Would you consider yourself as a colonizer in Alaska? After all the Native Indians of Alaska and the US have lived there for thousands of years and are now restricted to a few hundred reservations in some of the most unproductive land in the country. Are you willing to leave Alaska and give it back to the Eskimos and other local Indian tribes?
