Always sad to see political violence, but when you start silencing free speech, freedom of thought and not allowing any group from peaceful protest, then more Charlottevile's are gonna happen.
I'm all for free speech and peaceful protest, BUT
Like child p*rnograpghy, "Fighting words" and "offensive speech" are not protected by 1a. Gets tricky determining legally where the line is drawn though. There are some determining factors re what meets that criteria.
Who provoked who? Many would consider carrying a swastika and shouting Nazi slogans to be pretty provocative. Were they peacefully minding their own business? Some of them were caught on film going after counterprotesters with sticks. Or pointing a gun at them. And there's the guy in the car.
And let's say they were perfectly within their rights to assemble and spout their rhetoric - They don't stand for what this country is about and our leaders should have the brass ones to use THEIR free speech to denounce the hatred and racism. Which many of them did - including Republicans like McConnell, Ryan, Hatch, Cruz, McCain, Gardner, Grassley, Rubio, ... Except POTUS, who notably tiptoed around the subject.
For all the times he complained about obamas choice of words (ie "violent extremists" vs "radical islamic terrorists"), you'd think he'd be the first to call them what they are...
The silence implicitly condones it.
I'll stand corrected on the exec order since I don't have time to pursue the details. Anyway, not that important. Plenty of other indications where he stands. His daddy would be so proud,
That's probably it... didn't see the car.
Didn't see the other car because of all the people he was running over that were between him and it.
