That’s only one piece of “what spies do” and when done it’s done in a specific context to gather intelligence information vital to national interests. Highly unlikely that they would have taken, more less be breaking an oath to a foreign power, but in any event their agency oath supersedes.

Not all CIA are field operatives. Field operatives are the minority. Many others stay in Langley, review sigint, process data and translate information...

The ones who are field ops risk their lives for this country, as does our military. If killed in the line of duty sometimes they / their families won’t even receive any recognition as doing so would endanger other operatives or missions.

If their sacrifice can be recognized, they engrave a star on that granite memorial wall - you know, the one 45 stood in front of on his first day on the job and proceeded to deliver what amounted to a self -aggrandizing campaign speech.

The better question, the one you keep skipping, is why are you so concerned with other people's lives? When I speak of Christian in this thread, I'm usually talking about the fundamentalist type. There are plenty of Christians that are decent and live their own lives. Then you have the other type, fudamentalist types. And there are different levels. Ones that don't believe in dinosaurs, ones that believe it's a choice to be gay, ones that believe in "pray the gay" away.

You are against gays being able to marry, but have yet to give me a real answer how it affects your life. It doesn't.

How does someone being born female, but doesn't feel that way and proceeds with that. This affects your life how? It doesn't.

So tell me what is wrong with the live and let live approach? Tell me why you're so concerned with other people, to the point you're ok with government intrusion into their lives?

People have "served and risked their lives" for all kinds of countries. A good number of people in any fascist or totalitarian state actually believed that was what they were doing, that they were doing good. You seem to fall into that belief system, which is pretty well supported by a constant stream of television dramas that seem to fall right in line with that way of thinking. Most Americans are completely blind in this way. America is the "good guy." Unfortunately the truth is quite ugly, and the country is a sort of globalized force of repression.

You might want to ask why Eisenhower and JFK wanted to disband the CIA. Why do you think that was? You might want too ask if it's healthy for a self-proclaimed democracy to have such a large and powerful force that is not answerable to the people and operates in secret. Pretty much the whole government has become a sham that serves a few insiders at the expense of the greater public, who they are "protecting." And the public mostly seems to swallow it hook, line and sinker. I suppose that is helped by a disgraceful incarceration rate, excessive psychotropic drug use (prescribed or otherwise), and a constant stream of mindless entertainment.

The people who do sense there is a problem, sadly, are just as easily manipulated. They believe one or the other party or president is the cause of all their problems, and that is much of what I see in this thread. Washington DC plays good cop, bad cop, to keep the people bickering and to keep them from asking important questions.

And you are upset because I don't sufficiently respect those who use public funds to spy on their citizens and kill and manipulate people around the world for reasons that are never quite explained. There is no place for a massive secret agency in any free country. It's a contradiction of terms.

You wonder why I would support Trump. It's because Trump (and most presidents) are nothing in the scheme of things. Trump is simply a minor thorn in the side of a massive secret military-industrial bureaucracy. Which is more than anyone else has been recently.
