Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

But of course the replies from the usual suspects (trolls) will be that one swallow does not a summer make.

And out they came. :bah:

If you're telling us super generic keywords can't sell for more than mid €€€ it's not an encouraging sign. So far we have seen just a few mid $$$$ sales, seems like this is the top of the benchmark. When did we get to see a .tel reported on DNjournal for the last time ?
I think the market has spoken already, and the market is always right...

I don't even think .tel is a good option for people who are satisfied with a minimal Internet presence. Nowadays webhosts provide you with site builder tools and read to install CMS, that are much more customizable than .tel pages.

More than anything else, .Tel is about points of connection.

Since I launched my own .Tel page, my phone number has changed three times. Doesn't matter, wherever you are and whatever you're using - be it desktop, pda or mobile device, you can always reach me. It's not supposed to replace web pages. It's like a friggin' autodialing Rollidex on steroids for God sake! So as long as I'm not calling NFL football plays on the damn thing, nobody's going to get fined or suspended.

And even if I'm on someone else's computer, it's still my Rollidex like device.

But wait, there's more:

Did you ever notice the similarities between the .Tel platform and Twitter? Except, you don't have to register to "follow me" (by signing-up) and if I had anything to say I could "telegraph" it like THIS.

500 sites x $4.99/month per site. Hmm...

Great plan! (if you your Mom & Dad let you stay in a tent in their backyard)

Instead of spinning your wheels here, how about convincing Intuit that an inexpensive flat rate deal on their template system for unlimited domains (and hosting) might catch the interest of a mere few thousand portfolio bleeding domainers?
Okay, you are going to have to explain what this has to do with my post about how a doctor should have gotten a .com and used a template service instead of using a .tel contact profile.

Your blood .tel level is above the legal limit tonight.

Let's assume the following characters represent a box: [ ... ] And this, "T" represents the thought process.

Here's the problem (IMHO):

[ ..Dub..T ] [ ...... ] Wordwalker T

Sort of cryptic, but makes the point.

Sounds painfully clear that there is no money in .tel, that it is not a suitable extension for pure play domaining. This thread suggest that .tel domainers are also the .tel end users.

A $$$$ return on a $$ or a $$$ investment in less than a year is a pretty good profit.

So if someone doesn’t agree with you, you will call him/her a troll?? Just for your information, those who you call trolls are in fact seasoned and successful domainers, (not me of course). You can survive in the domaining industry (and other walks of life) only by learning from the experience of others. :)

I agree... I really don't think anyone (pro or con) has been a troll in this thread... The naysayers (not me) may be proven right in the future.....But, no matter what anyone says, I will keep my good .tels (TechSupport.tel for example) for a minimum of 5 years, then see what happens... All the namecalling on both sides does get rather tiresome...

.tel is what you make it...

.tel will never be .com PERIOD...

I have several .tels, some of which i can probably see a profit on already simply because of the traffic that they have created for my money making .com sites.

.tel will probably survive. it will never be dot com, but it just might carve out a niche for itself. if it can keep enough regs to pay the bills then i am very glad that i have what i have.

is it more of an enduser's dream and a domain investor's fizzle? that very well could be true. HOwEveR, if you are a developer as well as an investor, then you might want to bash any enthusiasm that was withing this community, and then snatch up any high value keyword tels for your self.

PM me if you have any good keyword .tels and you are wanting to bail out and give me a steal of a deal.

toy and toys .tels are of interest to me....

Does anyone know or can anyone point me in the direction of a list of major companies that are using .tel?

fans of .tel always say that its an easy way for non tech type of people to make an online presence in an easy way. i was reading mashable today and they mentioned 2 new services called Magntize.com and Card.ly

these basically do the same thing as .tel but its completely free and i'm sure we will see more and more similar services coming out in the future.

Magntize Helps You Build a Simple Social Media Business Card
Card.ly: Build a Beautiful Social Media Business Card

i bought about 10 .tels the day it came out just incase but will probably dump all of them. there is no way .tel will ever replace the phone number or the phone book. as long as domainers own .tel it can never happen. why would someone go to pizza.tel to call and order a pizza when it might just be some random domainer that owns it and could have fake info on it rather than pizza hut owning it? there is no way to know the info on a .tel is valid. I would rather just open the pizza hut app on my phone or search for pizza on google maps from my phone. .tel could have been a cool idea back in the 1990s when it was really hard to have any kind of online presence at all. its super rare to see any .tel sales. i feel sorry for people who bought hundreds of them maxing out their credit cards.

They do look nice though they are more expensive at $9 a month for all features and does not load as quick into a cellphone and are not for bigger business.

They will start beta testing the .tel search soon. Though it will probably take a couple of month until its released.

I will hold on to my .tels.

New version of DotTelFinder

A new version of DotTelFinder, the .tel Only Search Engine, has just been released.

You probably noticed that when using a generalist search engine (like Google, Bing or Yahoo!) with a keyword like ".tel", you are overwhelmed by hundreds (if not thousands) of irrelevant search results.

Well, DotTelFinder is different: it only performs searches on a growing set of hand-picked Web sites and pages.
Editors indeed carefully select valuable, relevant, reliable .tel-related content on the Web: blog posts, press articles, discussion threads, etc. as well as a couple of whole websites including Telnic's.
