Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Yes they do get the need to do defensive registrations for their TM ;)
Even if all TEL registrations are defensive in nature, it still makes more sense and is more professional to register a TEL for $8.95 a year than to use MySpace.com/whatever for free.

A TLD that consists of purely defensive registrations is dead :ghost:
If it is not used, advertised and embraced by end users, then it's like it doesn't exist and that isn't good for you.

Soon, .tel will work on every mobile phone, internet-enabled or otherwise; in any case, the way technology has been advancing, soon enough all (or most) new mobiles will be internet-enabled and used in that way. Consumers will enjoy a bundling of internet services that will make internet on the go very cheap and accessible to just about everyone.

I'm thinking longer term, not today.

Shortcodes today, .tel tomorrow (and not too far into tomorrow).

;)

There is a serious TM issue with this name and therefore it’s worthless for anybody else.
It will be a big mistake if you try to sell it to them.

Thanks!

So seems I can not register any TM .tel domains even .tel registration is open to public now ?

I thought if the .tel registration is open, the anybody can "First Come First Get", Isn't it right ?

BTW: Is TDBank a TM? I did not know that when I registered it.

Over 100 000 .tels Registered

This is a great article from March 29/09, it lists some of the major partners... such as BT, a telecommunications company in Britain, German publisher iWelt, a publisher of over 70 white pages titles, and MySpace.

There is also a free and open source iPhone application, My .tel, available from the Apple App Store.

Saucey. :)

TDBank in Canada used to be the Toronto Dominion Bank
who merged with Canada Trust
and now go by TDCanada Trust

Not sure what happens to the old name usage
but here is some info http://www.disputes.org/decisions/0787.htm

Just because a business doesn't reg its TM during sunrise doesn't mean it can't still defend its mark.

Should the bank decide to take you to court or WIPO, you will likely lose the case.

There is a good reason your domain was still available at this late date.

Sorry, but this is the way it works.

Does anyone have a complete list of the remaining PREMIUM LLL.tels?
(ABCDEFGHILMNOPRST)

I don't suppose there's many left of these.

Here's what I've gathered

DubDubDubDot said:
Take the TLD away from the .tel system, put it on tel.com and give users tel.com/user instead of user.tel and what are you left with? The same exact system, just a slightly different way of getting there.

So does a social site having it's own TLD make it any more professional than other social sites like MySpace or LinkedIn? I personally don't think so. What it actually boils down to is features.

If I was in a position where I needed to tell someone how to find me, but I couldn't tell them the actual contact method or give them my full .com site, would I be better off telling them about me.tel or www.myspace.com/me?

For business purposes, I'm taking the MySpace method 99 times out of 100 simply because everything on the .tel can easily go on the MySpace. Plus I could put all sorts of promo materials on the MySpace.

I'd like to see where people are getting their .tel's to rank among premium keywords where there is a lot of completion and real money to be made.

Here's what I've gathered about .TEL SEO value:

1. .Tel carries more SEO value than .info, but not more than .net, .org, or .com.

2. .Tel domains will require at least consistent off-page optimization along with domain age in order to compete with .Com TLD.

3. It can be done, because I've already got my one of my .TEL domains in the on the 1st page of Google & other engines for top keywords.

But, the key is knowing how to approach SEO for this type of extension.

I have a number of .tels, none are developed.
WHOIS info just displays my name.

How do I edit the WHOIS information so my email address will be displayed as well?

Thanks,

Chuck

In response to DubdubdubDot:

If you had been reading the thread Acroplex in one of his many rants promised to PM the multitude of experience and domains he has and add substance to his post instead of criticism without substance. He did not follow through and I felt the post of mine was appropriate.

I would offer the same suggestion to you, add some substance to the thread based on facts, real world experience and real solutions.

I don't feel the need to call your post "noobish", I think that the comment in itself shows your level of intellectual capacity.

regards

Edit: I also have given acro credit where credit is due and acknowledge some of his points are correct.

Don't know if you mean your actual whois or
the info displayed on your .tel itself (if it's live)

Your main whois is at the registrar, it should
be in your profile and it's usually what's used when
you reg a new domain, unless you have privacy turned on
you should be able to see it.

Hi,

I'm talking about the actual WHOIS info.

I know how to update/change the info on the .tel itself and have been doing so. At this point only the email is being added, but I would like the email to also show up in actual WHOIS info.

Chuck

.tels are regged with name.com.

As far as I know I am not using any privacy.

Did you register the domain/s recently? (as in this weekend?)
I think it can take a couple of days before the whois will show your complete info.

not recently. The domain I refer to was regged on 04/03.

The whois info is not the same as shows for .com domains, where it is all displayed. That is what I'd like for the .tel domains. At the least, my email address.

Your whois is only showing these 2 fields in admin, tech, and billing
as well as the registrant:

Registrant ID:
Registrant Name:

I have seen several like this from different registrars
in their whois but thought it was a "preference" of the customer.

Most of the whois's are showing the full deal:
Registrant ID:
Registrant Name:
Registrant Address1:
Registrant City:
Registrant State/Province:
Registrant Postal Code:
Registrant Country:
Registrant Country Code:
Registrant Phone Number:
Registrant Email:

It might be worth an email to support to see if
there is a way for it to display if it's not in your Preferences/Settings.

Are your other domains (not a .tel) showing everything?
EDIT: forget this one, you answered above :)

All my other domains (not .tel) do show everything. I tried to phone but can't get thru today--they are closed. It's a weekend, and it's Easter.

I've talked to a Google analyst, and .info will rank just as well as the other gTLDs.
It's about the contents and many other optimization methods.

You've gotten some keywords on Google pages, but they're not top keywords. Unfortunately, the ones that I've checked don't have any searches per month on overture and Google.

Looks like the phone support doesn't work weekends anyway...
Phone Hours : Monday-Friday 9am-5pm Mountain Time.
I would try the support email there may be someone responding today :)

I just sent off an email.

So, now I wait.

Perhaps somebody is there on weekends that can provide an answer.

Thanks,
