For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Keep all of the listings free except a category or 2 like lawyers and charge for these them.

Will it be possible to get the stats from my registar ?
I want the stats of those listed free on my CITY.TEL : if some of those are high numbers, it will be easy to convince them to pay to be listed.

I don't think .TEL domain names can be monetized...I guess the only way you can make money out of one is if you find listers who are willing to pay you for advertising their details....

.tel is just an ugly extension, if .me did some type of directory/contact info thing like this it would of caught on very fast, BECAUSE apple owns me.com, and "dot me" just sounds personal, and about whoever has a domain there. Even .name would of been a better TLD for a service like this.

The trick is that domains must have traffic of some sort. Who would pay for advertising in the middle of the desert ?
If you want to rent adspace you must be prepared to promote and advertise your .tel heavily.
Whether consumers will catch on is another matter.

it all comes down to traffic...and i doubt any .tel name will ever get significant traffic to justify anyone getting their listing set up on it for a fee.

Not really. I keep track of registrations since 3/29/09 at my forum.

03/29: 10,659
04/02: 9,476

That's 1,200 LLL.tel domains in less than 4 days, gone. There were 17,576 "possible" LLL .tel's to begin with (although a few were never available, eg. www.tel, nic.tel etc)

LLN's and LNN's are getting registered daily as well.

On this restrictive platform, not only is that impossible, it's nothing more than a pipe dream with zero chance of success. .TEL is intended as a single contact point for individuals or business, not directories. Sorry, but let's get real here. IMO.

Not to mention that the web is already flooded with directories of all sorts. I actually don't believe it's a very profitable niche.

Hi, I couldn't find the answer anywhere... I'd like to know if it is possible to track visitors to my .tel domain. Is there a way to add Google analytics, or does Telnic offers these stats?

It has but a single bid. In my experience, it's best not to get excited until the sale actually closes when dealing with these types of mysterious sales.
