For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

As for GoDaddy.tel, I think it was their "political" decision not to register domain in zone they are not serving. In this light, I don't think that they will initiate any legal actions against current owner - that will generate unneeded publicity, saying that .tel is valuable for GoDaddy. So, until GoDaddy will go through .tel certification, you may don't worry


As for Hotmail.tel... hm... is it really a trademark? As someone said earlier, Microsoft has secured its trademarks in .tel. So, you think they are so "silly" that don't have complete list of their TMs? :D I think they understood that hotmail.com has no need to be secured by .tel (the same example is googlemail.tel, which is still free)

If they were lised at sedo .......would they be accepted i wonder ??

I am not promoting cybersquatting, but at the same time don't accept the idea of being so afraid of even touching TM-like names... IMHO

Stay away from anything close to trademarked names! You are only looking for trouble. With .tel just having started, why would even look at trademarked names?

Last, I hate to say this, but it is obvious a lot of NP members are throwing their money away regging every .tel's they can find, just because they are available. Review all the names listed. Do you honestly think someone is going to buy a lot of these? I, and other's did the same with .in's, .co.in's, and other extentions. A year later, or two years later, I still owned them, and sold very few.
Slow down, and register only the best. If you have to wonder if it might be a good name, then it probably isn't. You will know instantly, if you really found a winner, or bought one.
For those of you who think I am just bad-mouthing .tel, let's see how many you sold, or have left in 1-2 years.

Maybe I missed it, but after searching Google and MySpace could not find any links to this product offering. Maybe MySpace has an option in their contract that they have opted not to trigger?

I registered several 3Ls. What I look for is that my regs can be resold to companies with the same initials to use them as electronic business cards. And trust me there are many.

I do my search before buying. There must be at least 5 listed in the first 3 Google pages before I buy...

Tel is a global TLD. That means in order to prove trademark rights a company must be registered around the world. With a few exceptions the kind of Ford or Coca-cola , companies register their trademark rights in their country of operation. Foe example GoDaddy is a company probably registered in US only. I doubt that GoDaddy has registered Trademark rights in Namimbia - Nepal -Bhutan etc. In my opinion you can freely register GoDaddy.tel and the like

I check out most threads. Helps to build a healthy perspective, something that seems to be sadly lacking in regards to this particular extension. You yourself, very rarely post unless it's in regards to this extension. It's all about perspective and using it to make decisions. I chose not to pin my hopes on a great white whale.

Besides, it was you who said all the detractors would come out with excuses for buying some. I don't have that issue. I didn't buy.

Hard to compare an extension with a social networking tool.

Another thing to consider is this: even with the raging success of twitter, the creaters still can't work out a way to make money from it. Just think...creating and owning twitter makes them no income.

just got all my pages indexed under "HotelSuites.tel (only took 72hours).

Note of interest:

Google seems to recognize each subdomain as unique as I have more than two listings under the keyword phrase: HotelSuites.tel

I actually have 4 subdomains indexed on the same page.

Now, I am going to optimize for 1st page rankings. I'll update you soon.

Trying to build cranston.tel into a mobile phonebook. Finishing up the schools part.
It's a little difficult finding all the info so I can imagine others would be having the same problem. So this might be useful as a central repository for contact info for everything Cranston.
If I get traffic, was thinking attorneys might pay to be listed.
Have to be careful as I wouldn't want to leave a group out because they didn't want to pay,thus hurting the quality, so I think I'll list everything for free except attorneys.
