Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Some "i" names might work.
I grabbed iContact and iClick just to find out.
iContact for the directory aspect.
iClick for possible gaming application.
Not really in my main targeted niches though so will probably be on the future sales list.
I will be open to ideas and possible collaboration on any of the names that I eventually do list for sale.

Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but .TEL domains cannot be developed. Dev ideas are pretty much useless with this TLD because you cannot host websites on them. Owning a .TEL is more like having a Facebook account than it is owning a regular type of domain name.

RJ, good point... but it would depend on what you consider "development", true? There are ways to monetize this TLD (directly & indirectly), as with most other TLDs. Contrary to popular belief: .mobi, .TV, .info, .ws, .etc and many other TLDs disliked by old school domainers can be monetized quite effectively. In fact, Facebook accounts, and yes, even Twitter accounts can be monetized. ;)

However, as with most new TLDs there are so many domains being registered that I fear are wrong for the TLD, but who am I to judge. Perhaps people know exactly why they are regging what they are regging... but there are so many great generics and geos left for under $10. And some of the .tel regs may even be available in .com - I've seen that happen many times before.

either way, good luck to all.

the process can be automated. nothing is impossible, with or without api access, it can & will be done.

Pretty sure you are not allowed to give control of subdomains to anybody but the original regestering name. You ARE allowed to lease them to make money... but YOU would have to be tho one who enter's/change's contact info.... I think this would be hard for personal .tel's, people would want to be able to change their profiles constantly and I don't think it would be possible to keep up with... or worth it. However I think that business's/services would be possible. Their info is pretty static, and would not need to be changed very often... if at all.... therefore once it's entered into the system it would be pretty smooth sailing in my opinion..

Sorry. Need to clarify. Yesterday the bulk account price was $10.99 and I noticed a few minutes ago it's changed to $9.50. Strange.

Strange indeed. It seems their "Super Bulk Pricing" is even lower: $9.25.

Where can I find the TEL registry? I want to see if someone already regged

AnotherFailedExtension.tel

I have already had people offering to sell me clear 100% TM match domains in .TEL

Just seeing all the TM domains regged constantly in any new extension is making me believe the custom TLD's might never happen.

For a company like Disney, Google, Pepsi, Microsoft, whatever..It would be a nightmare. There were would be TM domains taken in every new extension.

.mobi hasn't failed by any means, but it has failed expectations. In that regard, .tel will probably share the same success if not more as .mobi. It has only been 2 days so we'll have to wait and see how .tel plays out. Geos and names should enjoy the most success. As for "keywords" not pertaining to contact-related info. that's another story :)

in order to make a generic blanket statement like ".mobi has failed "expectations", one would first have to realize that it all depends on what your expectations were, true? .Mobi hasn't failed me... I didn't lose money, I am currently monetizing and am still acquiring and developing more .mobi domains. Some people expected it to be the .com killer, some people expected to flip their portfolios for millions, etc... while others toiled away working hard to develop their sites and are currently generating traffic and revenue. I suspect the same thing will happen with .tel - for many people, .tel will fail to meet the high expectations they set for it, while .tel will work out just fine for those who are developing for it.

to each his own. good luck to all.

I noticed in the .tel showcase thread there's been a few sales already. Can we start the 'official .tel sales thread' yet? :D

How long does it take for a .tel to resolve after you put info into the Dashboard? I don't like this interface at all >:(
