Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Premium .Tels Review

Have any of you pre-booked for GA?

Of course, I wouldn't expect anyone to reveal anything, but the premiums are going fast, especially for GA.

A lot of premiums are just plain gone.

I figure that if I get 25% of my pre-bookings, I'll do well--even 10% would be great. At this point, it's a numbers game.

To get a one-word high-performing term for about $20.00 would be a bargain.

If I get most of them, well, I have plans to set up an aftermarket site anyway.

Thanks for your post Ms Domainer.
To substantiate your point on premium names being snagged, I was informed by domainmonster that I lost the following PreOrder:

AutoLoans.tel

Some may ask: Am I dissappointed in losing this name?

My answer: A little, but not really.....

After careful review of my revised .tel marketing plan, the above mentioned domain was very narrow in market reach as it applies to the Auto Industry.

Worst still, the Auto Industry is at an all-time low in lending & sales. (red flag) :|

Marketing this type of domain would have resulted in my yielding only a meager percentage of the LOAN market share.

Any thoughts,

So, to clarify things for others here, You don't 'invest in', or 'own' any of these .tel domains, and yet you 'encourage' others to, because you feel, and thus keep promoting, that it's 'highly brandable??? :-/ Sounds like some great(?) advice for 'others' and 'their' money!

You go girl!

What are you going on about now, friend ... I have stated here publicly that I have not invested one penny in the highly brandable .TEL - but who knows, I may invest, and :$: heavily, one day IMHO. :yell:

Also, unlike your trolling immature and whiny drivel (including repeated personal attacks) ... I have clearly stated my opinion that the highly brandable .TEL seems to offer QUICK & EASY access to vital contact information for those that are out and about while "on the go" - in a short, one syllable, concise, easily memorable, intuitive, and - yes - highly brandable .TEL extension! :talk: :imho:

If you can intelligently comment here ON TOPIC, and constructively ... please feel free to post here on our #1 Namepros ... however, if not (and you feel further compelled to spout off meaningless and inciteful personal assaults) please take your immature OFF TOPIC behavior elsewhere where it may be tolerated! :alien: :red: :snaphappy:

Good day, friend!

I think you had made the right decision in not regging this as a premium, given that you were on the edge about it. For one thing, this is a two-word domain (though both are fine generic terms).

Had this been an important part of your marketing plan, then, yes, it could have been a major disappointment.

And you're right about the sad state of the auto industry; auto loans are probably at an all time low right now.

Having said this, I did pay a premium fee for a two-word domain that is probably of lesser quality than the one you lost, but it is a linch pin domain in relationship with some premiums that I plan to use for what I think will be a lucrative project--in other words, it is a must-have piece of the project. I must admit, I questioned my decision, but to not get it would have ruined the over-all plan. After wracking my brain and doing an extensive search for an alternate term, I realized that no other term would have worked nearly as well.

After GA, I'll explain more fully (for anyone who is interested, that is), but there are still a few more pieces out there, not exactly "must-have," but "would-be-nice-to-have" domains. With or without these other domains, my plan will still be on track, so I am willing to take the risk of waiting to see if I can get them for GA prices.

It's really a delicate dance, isn't it?

@sdsinc some good stuff there... Those are some of the issues I have been running into trying to hook up my asterisk box to work with the .tels

@Ms Domainer Any hints on who your are pre-registering through ??? The canadian registrar is new to me but seem to be pretty strong with helping people acquire dot tels during GA.

Sorry have the twitter bug with the @'s

Thread: http://www.namepros.com/domain-appraisals/557752-no-tel-appraisals-at-this-time.html

Mike at Staff™ posted above, and correctly I might add ... no appraisals at this time for the highly brandable .TEL (using my own words), IMHO. :gl:

My hope is that after March 24th there may be a new highly brandable .TEL sub-forum here on #1 Namepros™ in which to CONSOLIDATE all related posts; including the allowance for their registrations & appraisals, assessments, business plans, sharing, ideas, opinions, etc. :talk: :imho:

Secondly, this will keep the existing general #1 Domain Discussions© Forum here clean, efficient, and free of clutter. :music:

We should know more on or around the March 24th date, in my best judgement.

The highly brandable .TEL domain name may not be for everyone ... I believe we all gladly accept that, and think we can all learn a LOT from each other's opinions and thoughts in this regard - whether they invest :$: or nothing at all, IMHO. :gl:
Caveat: I would hope, as I would for any extension or investment, that anyone that does invest would complete their own thorough research and proper due diligence, as well! :yell:

Do NOT invest in the highly brandable .TEL ... simply for the fact that it's "highly brandable". :imho:

Hi guys

I only have one .TEL (DomainMonster) and I am trying to fiddle around with the control panel to see how it all works.

I am having a bit of trouble with getting the basics set up. Could someone advise me on a couple of things.

If I wanted say Chicago, New York, Boston, Detroit etc on the main page, where do these fields go (Profiles, folders, text header?????)

Then if I wanted say suburbs under each of those, how is that done? If someone could just point me in the right direction, I would appreicate it.

Are there some basic instructions anywhere??

Thanks guys

Hi there. You can see the configuration video at http://telnic.org/individual-discover6.html.

The actual Guide pdf for the VIP Beta can be found at http://telnic.org/downloads/vipguide.pdf

Okay. In keeping to the spirit of the web and relevant hyperlinks, please read my blog entries from last may, specifically:

Meanings of TLDs

.tel record types

For those who need a shortcut, here's the elevator explanation (but please read the above posts when you can):

The DNS is an awesome distributed database. Traditional TLDs mostly use it to map computer names to IP addresses. In complete contrast, .tel uses the DNS as an actual database and stores directly in it contact info, keywords and location info.

plaggypig's above quoting of Justin's DNS zone clearly shows that Justin's info IS IN THE DNS. You don't need to go anywhere else to get it, it's right there for you, in perfect structure. No need to create complicated parsers with artificial intelligence.

The web proxy is just a wrapper to allow people using browsers to see this data.

Does loading the DNS server with lots of information give performance issues at all ? Is there a limit to what owners can enter ? I am thinking what if someone "spams" their own records ?

Comparing to conventional dns services it seems the load has been transferred to the dns server but I'm wondering if this could lead to access problems ? If everything runs as it should the access speed should be greater as you are delivered the information at point of dns resolution but I'd be a bit nervous if my data was held in the same place as lots of other peoples data for the above reason.

On a side note, .tel does not seem to support Unicode text, latin characters only.

Limits depend on your Telhosting provider (in general your registrar).
Note that you can run your own Telhosting with your own DNS servers. You are only required to have your Telhosting abide by the published Telnic APIs.

Text records are full UTF-8. Labels in contact records are latin due to DNS restrictions.

Exactly! Brandability is not the whole story.

Can you tell me how to make these changes for a .TEL domain registered at DynaDot?

Could someone from Telnic PLEASE address the problem with Dotster.

THIS REGISTRAR IS SOUND ASLEEP.

On my Dotster account I am directed to change my contact at Telnic's homepage, which is nothing but Telnic's homepage, with no way to manage my domain/account.

Dotster is slow to answer support tickets, and when they do, they don't seem to know what they're doing. Dotster does not seem to be providing Telhosting, which was supposed to be part of the deal, right?

This is really getting frustrating.

*

*

My note to Dotster:

I'm going to keep complaining until you resolve my problem, and if that doesn't work, I'm going to contact Telnic and ICANN.

I CAN'T ACCESS DNS TELHOSTING FOR MY .TEL DOMAINS. This was supposed to be provided with .tel domains

Your people do not seem to know what to do with .tel domains. You provide a link to Telnic's homepage, but this page has nothing to do with Telhosting. This link directs to their public relations page.

PLEASE! Get in touch with Telnic to get an idea of how you can integrate .tel domains with Telhosting.

At the very least, give information to your customers as to when you expect to go live with .tel.

I think that you will find that your .tel customers will be very understanding if you keep us in the loop. However, your slow support and lack of knowledge is not very inspiring or reassuring.

Thank you for your PROMPT reply.

Sounds like it might be time to start your own DNS server for changing dns.

So registrars now provide a method of specifying your own DNS servers for .TEL domains?
