Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

some cracking names there....

i think first names and geo work best and if you have your home town maybe easy to develop.......be good if the uk geo can somehow link up

My question to Telnic: do you expect to develop a system that will display the URL as http://Hull.tel instead of http://s0.webproxy.nic.tel/lookup/hull.tel?

In other words, is this proxy address a temporary thing?

I think it makes a different on how Google will index .tel.

I hope you will address this here on Namepros.
I agree 100 percent with you - if it is temporary, fine - if it is not, it will significantly decrease the (still uncertain) potential of .tel.

The control panel is easy to use - I woudl have some remarks, but first I need to test more, and see the domains resolve, so that I can check the results live.

.Tel domains will not start resolving for regular consumers until around March 23rd 2009. This is due to the fact that most registrars are still active on landrush period.

Have you noticed that all of Telnic example domains are still resolving just fine:

http://largeco.tel/
http://SmallCo.tel/
http://celebrity.tel/

Let me know if I can help any of you,

Thanks,

This is actually good news, because this suggests that our domain URLs will eventually resolve as regular URL addresses and not as that long proxy address.

People, the demo domains largeco.tel etc... don't have privacy enabled, so don't have the issue of handling the same cookie across all .tel domains. They were set up many months before the whole system went online. See my latest post on my blog (available of course through social.henri.tel) to understand this better.

We hear you loud and clear, that you don't care about auto-login to Telfriends and auto-display of private info as much as you care about the urls on the proxy being what you expect. We're going to determine the exact technical changes asap, then we'll give you some timelines.

On the web proxy, you want clean unredirected URLs upon first request. Understood 100%. But automatic display of private info on any .tel will have to go (it'll be one click away).

Okay, I see.

If you set up privacy, then your domain has to go through a proxy server.

Something to think about when setting up access to your information.

:hi:

While the short, memorable & highly brandable .TEL may offer quick & easy access to vital contact information for those that are out and about and "on the go" (especially when compared with the long, cumbersome & forgetable "dot Mobey" extension) ... I would again strongly recommend that folks be VERY SELECTIVE with their choice of these rather expensive landrush .TEL registrations, IMHO. :gl:

Thanks again, and Good Luck!

is it possible to add "search" with .tel directories?
is it possible to add paging, if the listing page has more than 10 entries?

thanks,

For those who are using .tel, what are all the features provided for you to use?

Jeff did you buy? I thought you said no...at least not yet. Also, what would you consider a GOOD name, if one were to be SELECTIVE?

Cheers!

My advice to you would to be to check out the Telnic.org website, cause I don't even know every app available right now.... I just wanted to get a small start on mine to see what would happen....

Took me 10 min to create www.NorthAmerica.tel

Had CodyJames in members lobby try it out on his 3G.... He said it was lightning quick! But mentioned the address in the browser looked like a re-direct.... Apparantly, Telnic is correcting this problem.

I agree, there should be a good search functionality even though the browsing is very smooth now.

I'd like to have the search field on top just below the headline.

Hi Sauce ... right, I have not purchased any highly brandable .TEL's. :gl:

Potential registrations should match the intent and goals of the unique and very highly brandable .TEL extension ... for me, specific for quick and easy use for those that are out and about while "on the go" (needing accessible vital information - including various ways in which to best timely communicate), IMHO. :talk:

Isn't that same "on the go" strategy used by .mobi
Same strategy with different goal lol. :)

Well, I'll tell ya what.... I'm still having fun with www.NorthAmerica.tel !
It will be a while before I am even half finished, but I am hoping it's worth it. Everybody who has had a look on their blackberry or I Phone says it's an awesome idea (.tel) and very user friendly. Hopefully the word gets out there....

Saucey.

OK Read this carefully:
There is a big problem with hosting services actually and don't know how they will fix that:
actually all your .tel are displaying link like: http://s1.webproxy.nic.tel/lookup/www.yourdomain.tel

That is why iphone don't display the mobile version but desktop version but when you go to http://largeco.tel Telnic dot tel example, you'll see the correct url (not webproxy...) so it display the mobile version on your iphone and desktop version on your PC. Also for SEO it's perfect. Also subdomains are recognized: http://locations.largeco.tel/

Now is the webproxy.nic temporary or not? if not you can claim your money back or do something to get the correct url for yourdomain.tel displaying in browser.

We all need more infos on this, maybe justin or hosting providers can answer. If it's webproxy.nic for life than what telnic advertise is false.

I don't like the way they (and others) are trying to suggest that .tel + .mobi = It would be neither more or less complimentary than linking to a domain of any other TLD, and at the end of the day you shouldn't be using .mobi anyway. Don't fall for the FUD!

I agree totally plaggypig, just thought some may find it interesting as I've seen a few comparisons on here over the past few days/weeks

you do realize this article you've referenced is against new TLD's in general.... im sorry to inform you, but this would include .TEL
