Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I used Dynadot to reg.... I can't figure out how to get access to my .tel so I can start setting it up.... Anybody have any helpful hints...??

Also, the few I have with DM are unavailable for development...

I think we have the same problem with any registrars to control dot TEL. Here is the message from DomainMonster said about last minute delays.

"Due to some last minute delays with the .tel hosting platform launch, access to your .tel control panel will now be from 13:00 UTC on Monday 9th March 2009."

Most registrars won't officially be live for configuration until after March 12th, 2008.

My .tel (abq.tel) is live with Name.com, and I can access the tel hosting control panel. I am VERY disappointed with how TelNic is handling the website URL's for .tel domains. If you go to a resolving .tel domain in a regular web browser you don't see "domain.tel" you see "http://a1.webproxy.nic.tel/lookup/domain.tel".

This issue will create havoc for people who were counting on standard URL rewriting to happen so domains would display as "domain.tel" or "subdomain.domain.tel" to take advantage of search engine optimized addresses.

Every example on the telnic.com website shows "yourcompany.tel" or "jordansparks.american-idol.tel" as the URL in the address bar. Not the confusing and convoluted one that is being shown now.

Anyone else see an issue with this?

Also the footer link : register your .tel and about .tel is not really professional.
And like I said iphone displays the desktop web version (awful for iphone users) and not mobile one (easy to navigate) simple text based.

Mine on name.com and still no message about logins from name.com and my .tel is still not live.

Yes,
Google would rank your site as
s1.webproxy.nic.tel/lookup/abq.tel instead of abq.tel

If you are with Name.com you can setup your .tel login to the tel hosting site through their control panel. Just click on your .tel domain in your account list. There is a user/pass setup tool there with instructions on how to login. You still have to enter contact info before the .tel domain will resolve.

@mrdomainman

I know and agree. This seems like a HUGE flaw in their "seo" marketing if they don't get this fix asap.

Interesting results. With the proxy server in there. I was able to get into mine alt.tel at name.com also. Though my domain name is still not resolving... maybe it takes 24 hrs like other DNS changes?

I asked this very question on the Dynadot forum.

Dynadot says .tel will go live on March 12.

As you recall, Dynadot was the registrar that recently had the major crash, so maybe they just want to make sure all ducks are in a row.

As for proxy issues, I would take a wait and see stance before getting all excited. After all, this is all very new, and one has to expect some bumps and glitches.

Ah, the price of being an early adopter!

As I recall, it took my VIP account a while before it started resolving in its proper card format.

Of course, I would expect that Telnic will work on these issues because their very success depends on the smooth integration of the .tel platform.

Maybe Henri or Justin could explain the proxy issue and what Telnic is doing to fix it?

;)
