Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

What can you TELL about 'Porno.TEL"?

Just stopped by to check that "Porno.tel" is taken.

Is it registered by trademark holders on the sunrise? or Is it a reserved name?

What can you tell about "Porno.tel"?

Here’s the problem. The concept behind .tel was created about a decade ago. That’s before MySpace, Facebook, and a myriad of other social networking technologies made it big. Telnic applied for .tel from ICANN back in 2000, according to a recent BusinessWeek article.

The top level domain finally got approved and now it has been rendered pointless.

Why should people pay to have a “business card on the web” when they can get a free one through a number of other sites?

I can see it making sense back in 2000, but why has ICANN taken so long to approve this tld?

Nowadays, you have facebook, linked in, twitter, templates and scripts, and more to make a contact page.

You'd almost have a good point, but for the fact that .tel offers just one point of contact that is not closed like those other sites..unlike those fragmented sites inc. a bundle of yellow pages type sites, this offers one central place for communication...just like ebay is the central hub of internet auctions (apologies if this is a somewhat abstract comparison- but hopefully you get my point)...because it's centralised, more and more people will gravitate to it and the easier it is to find what you want.

I'm sure that even the .TEL crusaders will advise you that this was $300 down the john. Unless you have a brilliant plan for monetizing phone numbers for porn companies, we will be seeing this domain drop in three years.

There are very few (if any) .TEL domains worth registering during this period. This was certainly not one of those of names. My suggestion would be to stop registering until GA where you will only be wasting $10 instead of $300. Sorry if this seem harsh, but sometimes the truth hurts.

Best of luck in the future and take care.

You can't park .tels because you can't monetize them in that way; it's against TOS, and you won't have any control over DNS anyway.

The incentive will be to use them for contact information and building directories.

This is why so many domainers hate .tel. You can't snap a bunch of them up and set up lame parking pages that everyone (but domainers) HATES.

Kudos to Telnic for this.

This is a good point actually...it's pretty tempting to register these types of generics, but it's important to think about how dot tel will be used. It would seem that plumbers.tel would be far more useful than pornos.tel, at least in the short term. However, long term and once .tel becomes more widely used most generics like even porno, could still be valuable. It might be good to think about how the domains can be used as a directory, would porno.tel, be usable in this way (and Im not sure). I know that sex.tel and porn.tel will be valuable simply because they are highly popular words in anything that's a domain. Ive registered less than what i would call usable .tels, in the GA..that way, like microguy says, you havent got that much to lose if they are difficult to promote with .tel... (I may be wrong on all these points so feel free to kick my butt if I am, just makes sense to me at least). It's always important to look at how the domain will be used rather than seeing it just like a website domain. Having said that though, it does seem possible to rank .tel quite well perhaps if enough back links and keywords are within the .tel directory.. Jamarie.vip.tel has proven this to a small extent, so eventually if this happens, most good keyword generics that can be turned into a directory, may prove to be a very good asset, above what they may be worth simply as a speculative curiosity or what one would term a collectable (a domain that sits doing nothing but look good as a nice generic in someone's domain collection).

Very good pickup. However, you need to think about your marketing strategy.
Your domain is pretty good as most people still order pills either online or by telephone.

So here is the foreboding question to ask when purchasing the right .TEL?

1. Does your .TEL domain relate to product and or services?

2. Does your .TEL extension have the potential to support "order by phone" type business?

3. Is your .TEL GEO based?

If not, you need to think twice about reinvesting in your .TEL domains.

I'm here, but as I've stated repeatedly and from the very early beginning ... and very PUBLICLY over and over again, I'm not investing in any highly brandable .TEL's at this time, IMHO. :gl:

What I have also observed and stated ... is my opinion that the short and very highly brandable .TEL is much more attractive and easier to effectively brand than the long, awkward, and unprofessional "dot Mobey" extension - and in this regard, there will be a lot of interest and investment shifting from the failed "dot Mobey" to the new and highly brandable .TEL, IMHO. :talk:
Looks like my early predictions were correct! :music: :bingo:

-Jeff B-)

oh .. you're being way to modest :red:

months and months of post after post proclaiming the highly bandable .tel surely had some influence on the newer domainer and curious community as a whole.

really, take a bow! many of these regs are directly because of you.

Thanks Lexis, lets hope pills.tel does well.

i picked up my last one.

Grocery.tel

stores.grocery.tel

locations.grocery.tel

coupons.grocery.tel

if the Geo tracking or "friending feature" works out you could enter grocery.tel and it would locate any signed up grocery stores to locate the nearest one.

that would definitely be able to be monetized.

I have done my homework and only picked keywords with large results in google and google keywords search.

Thanks for your input. Have a great weekend everyone.

im going to look for stores.grocery.tel !

There's a different approach to monetization!

Thanks hullswingerscom. However, I'm not referring to parking domains and then collecting "cents on the dollar" type revenue as the .TEL framework is not built for adsense, sponsored links or adspace like YellowPages.

Rather, my revenue model involve using an intergrated third party technology that fits within TOS terms, and in fact is probably one of the few business models that will work for the .TEL extension.

Actually, before I reg this name, I already have development plan in mind. But for now, I don't have any intention to develop it. But this some of my development plans which I want to share:

*) .TEL allows visibility on both PC and Mobile Devices (both with different displays which optimized for its uses).
That would give me advantages to target both PC users and MOBILE users, also to let me reach good ranks especially on Search Engines (PC users)

*) And for the content of the site, .TEL allows us to put "web links" or "mobile-web links" on the site, where visitors could directly click on it.
Now this will also give me advantages, because when visitors visit my site from PC, they will encouraged to click "FULL WEBSITE-links" but when they visit my site using MOBILE devices, then they will encouraged to visit "MOBILE WEB-links" (it could be a WAP, .MOBI, or any types of mobile sites).

*) .TEL also allows us to put contact info (phone numbers & emails), which also could be used both on MOBILE PHONE (Dial the phone numbers or Email the company from your cell) and PC COMPUTER (Call using VOIP or Email the company). All of these features just make me more confident, because I can give my site's visitors more options to find information they need in a simple way.

*) .TEL doesn't need hosting, which means the development costs for me is close to ZERO (it's better if you have generic keyword which will reduce your marketing/promotion costs)

Now based on those advantages, I don't mind if .TEL doesn't allow us to put pics, videos, or any development features on the .TEL website. Because its just act as a "middle-man" on the web, which means .TEL job is to send people to the real website / mobile website which provide graphics and services.

So if you want to become a middleman on the net, all that you need on your .TEL site is "trusted & real information" i.e: real website links when people visit your site via PC, real mobile site links when people visit your site via CELLPHONES, real phone numbers, etc. Its just like a phonebook / yellowpages, people don't need any graphics to help them find any phone numbers, what they need is the REAL PHONE NUMBERS and THE REAL ADDRESS, after that let them contact / visit the company by themselves. That's what quality information is all about.

And for Pornos.tel, I plan to become the "middleman" for the industries below (They can put their website links, mobile site links, or phone numbers on Pornos.tel for a small fee. And guess what? I don't spend any development cost :) ) :

- Porno websites
- Porno magazines (subscribers)
- Adult Shop / Stores (Sex toys, Sex drugs, etc)
- Phone Sex (List of companies which offer Phone Sex services)
- Sluts (List of prostitutes which offer Sluts lists)
- Strippers (List of companies which offer Strippers services)
- and much more...

OR maybe I will put only MOBILE SITES links on Pornos.tel, for example links of these mobile sites:

- Porn.mobi
- Pornos.mobi
- PhoneErotica.com
- Pornwap.net

- etc

OR because word "Pornos" is also generally used on German, Spanish and France, then I could create location-based information, i.e:

- Sex Shops in Germany
- Phone Sex in Spain
- Adult DVD stores in France

- etc

And again that's just my opinions :)
