Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I like it... has.tel.
I was just saying I need to get a 3 letter.
I was thinking about grabbing "Got.tel" for a smiliar service

Unfortately I have spent all I can on this tld and have to try and wait till March to see what is left.
Don't worry - for people with imagination, much will be left.
I have some ideas for late March too, and I am curious also to see what will be left from my small shopping list. But I refrain from buying more at this point, one must remain within reasonable budget limits.

Just registered telegram.tel. Sort of a catch-all for all the different message and delivery related services that might end with "gram".

IMPORTANT:

I recently learned that current .tel infrastruture is capable of supporting third party mobile apps that will allow for direct dial capability. In other words, the app would allow for true one-click calling.

[Domain].tel would simply be input in the apps' calling field, followed by clicking the "SEND" function. The actual phone number dialed would not need to be viewed nor selected in advance of placing the call. Seamless.

This offers all the opportunity of 1-800 toll free dialing without the necessity of translating numbers to letters or even needing to find premium words that fit into a seven letter numeric format. This functionality alone ought to cause some domainers to rethink the potential for .tel.

So many people complain about the LandRush $300 price point, but when I look at namebio.com daily domain sales' summaries, $300 is often at the low end of the reported sales for names that arguably have far less potential. And let's not forget, that $300 fee covers a three year registration period.

For those making the argument that .tel is another .mobi in the works, here are the last three reported .mobi sales from namebio.com:

2/8/09 vita.mobi $1050

2/2/09 bigassbooty.mobi $905

1/27/09 makeuponline.mobi $1498

These were not cherry picked values, but the last three sales actually reported. Are these words even premium? We should all do so well in a bubble bursted market!

Just got confirmation email that I have successfully secured
hire (dot) tel

Naysayers should consider profitable relationship between .Tel and affiliate marketing, direct sales leads!

I suspect the meaningful three-letter .tels will be gone by GA.

If you're still thinking about regging this domain, you might want to edit it out of your post (like I did above in your quote).

;)

I do think that there will be some good generics left at GA, though, even one-worders. I have a list I'm keeping, and just before GA, I'll rank them according to "I really would like to have" to "So So."

Yes for "meaningful ones" but it's Impossible for all 3 letter: 26³ = 17,576, I don't think 17 576 domainers will buy 3 letter before GA
That's $5 272 800 just for 3 letter .tel based on $300/1
Economy is good in .tel if that was true. :)

Why not LOL.tel :great:

BTW @Ms Domainer wouldn't you be using here .tel and has .tel for same purpose?

Yes.

I figure that there will be a lot of people (with the same names) who will want a snazzy .tel address.

Probably has.tel will appeal to a younger target audience who might find the play on words kind of cool--a cool mobile cell with an even cooler contact address (actually a redirect to another .tel address).

Emily.has.tel

The here.tel people might be young professionals who might be more serious about their boutique .tel. They might still want something memorable but maybe not so cutsey.

Having YourName.has.tel might even become the IT contact address on the web.

:D

Thanks for this information.

Now to another question is there a reserved list of names ? and if so does anyone have the link to this list.

With the mobi names I registered some great names to only have my money refunded in a few days by godaddy as these names where reserved by mtld.

Thanks in advance.

Everything that is reserved is "not available" if you try to reg... so no chance of getting billed...

Just a reminder for everybody... (I get excited all over again everytime I read this)

Guys, just to close this one down, I was asked offline in email what the intepretation of the AUP was on directory services. This is our official position:

You are absolutely allowed under our AUP to run a commercial directory-style service under your .tel domain; the restrictions are that you are not allowed to sub-delegate the management of that contact information to a third party, nor are you allowed to sell on third- or lower-level sub-domains (which we call folders for ease) to third parties.

You are however allowed to list contact information for fees received or create some other way for customer to remunerate you for click-throughs to their own websites (clicks from .tel domains can be measured for example in Google Analytics by the customer) or via unique telephone numbers which might provide you with revenue before diverting them to the customer listed on your domain.
Thanks all,

And another Quote of Justin's...

justinhayward said:
Yes, you can establish a commercial directory operating on a basis of being paid to list a link or piece of contact information or set of contact information with a sub-domain for that purpose.

Monetizing .tel domains

Is it possible to monetize .tel domains?

From what I know, it's not possible to develop a .tel as a normal website, and if it can't be a website or it's not parked with links, the mighty question is; can you actually make money from in the after/reseller market?

Hi all, can I have some opinions please

I am no developer but I am going to attept to build a basic .com site to advertise my 1 and only .tel domain (TravelAgents.tel), just a site where companies can go and pay a small annual fee to list their details on TravelAgents.tel

I was going to get a name related to Travel, but after thinking about it, I figured it may lead to me regging other .tel names and then if I wanted to advertise them on that .com site, the travel wouldn't really be relevant, so I regged a name that could be used for any .tel

BookaTel.com

it sounds nice and rolls off the tongue quite nicely, any thoughts??

Hi all,

Just saw your note regarding justin.tel not responding quickly. First thing to say is that this is running on a seperate system to the one that will run the main .tel domains - it's still an internal testing system running in parallel with the other vip.tel domain system. We are still receiving and updating the proxy pages for both web and mobile access, so you will see some periods of downtime and some times a lag in access.

All of this work is to drive a standard level of access as much as possible for every .tel domain, whether it is accessed over a browser using a proxy page on the web, or bypassing the web using some of the applications we've developed or that other registrars and VoIP companies (Kiax and VOIPgate to name but two) have developed where you don't even need to go on to the web to access .tel domain information. That's why the pages remain clean, the A records locked and the APIs published so that people can access the information in a standard way over any device and through all types of different applications.

Wouldn't it be nice if your domain name sat under an entry in someone's address book and could be accessed without having to open a browser? :) Welcome to .tel (and specifically, so I don't get called out for telling untruths, the latest version of the BlackBerry application available at dev.telnic.org).

Thanks, Justin.

I have been domaining for almost two years, and I must say that you have been one of the most open spokepersons of a new TLD I have ever encountered.

I appreciate being kept in the loop, given that I am now an investor.

:)

I was involved in the .me landrush; I love the .me space, but I do not recall having such access to anyone representing .me. Maybe there was (and I missed it--I was fairly new, after all).

You have answered every question that I have had; in addition, your updates on Twitter and on Telnic have been helpful.

I think you have been very respectful to the naysayers who have asked good questions.

Last week, I, too, encountered a slow response when trying to bring up my vip account, but by the next day it was back to normal. Info that I thought was lost was not lost and was actually in cache for me to activate.

I think we forget that early adopters of any new system are going to experience beta bugs.

So thanks for everything so far!

Read the .Tel showcase thread.

A lot of discussion there for possible ways to make money.
