Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

For resale, I would say AVOID it.... but, who really knows??

I've been learning a little bit about the "hyphen" world lately, and it seems that 1 hyphen is not that bad... obviously 3 or 4 would be.

Real-Estate.tel.... Well I guess it's not that bad..... :? :? :?

I am by NO means pretending to be an "expert" here...

Just my personal thoughts...

:hehe:

Just curious what people think in regards to which are the best names to register in regards to plural, verbs, singular etc

ie

Which is better??

Plumbing.tel
Plumber.tel
Plumbers.tel

Thanks

Personally, I would think Plumbing.tel would be the best. My reason for this would be that you could list Plumbers, as well as Plumbing stores/wholesalers and anything else related to the plumbing world!

However, if you wanted to stay in one "niche"... and it was between plumber and plumbers... I would take plumber.tel.... It has one less character in it and it gets the point accross perfectly.

In some cases though, I think the plural is better... For instance, Listing.tel or Listings.tel.... I think Listings.tel is much better in this case.

I think plumbing might be slightly better than the other two. I just registered carpetcleaning.tel (Im done with buying, now but at least Ive got a service .tel to add to the collection). Carpetcleaning gets more keyword traffic than carpetcleaner and sounds slightly better to me IMHO. I tried to choose a trade that is competitive and it can also be a bit of an emergency with spills etc, similar to towing I guess, where someone needs a carpet cleaner fast. Just a punt in any case + I used to be one, lol. :hehe:

what for? auctionning .tel? if so, happy to list mine in future.

It's weird, I spoke to some friends today about the .tel
I ask do you know what is a .tel (guess what's that) and 1 of them answer me Tel-Aviv Israel, he thought I was registering a CCTLD like .TV for Tuvalu of .FR for France, De for germany...
But tel aviv is a city not a country.
So what do you think about that?

.TEL has been identified and cleared as a gTLD.
i think there has no effect in term of people understanding to be ccTLD. Due to Tel Aviv is obbiouslly be a city.

BTW, in term of search engine, there may has some confusion. Few days ago, i did search "hit.tel" in google, one in my list, most of results shown information about "troop hit tel aviv".

It's obviously affects to dot tel. but IMO google or telnic would fix this soon.

Setting up TelBuilder.com to allow (dot)Tel classifieds for listings.

ex. Listing for domain.advisor.tel...

From my understanding you are allowed to sell or auction off the listing area but you are NOT allowed to sell/lease subdomains or folders. In other words, owner of the domain is the only one allowed to make entries and changes.

Saucey nice find on Telauctions.com

I agree that there will be a lively aftermarket, so I regged TelAftermarket.com (horrible stats right now) and TelClassifieds.com (much better stats, but still not a killer term).

Both domains will direct to the site; I'm just not sure which will be the custom domain and which will be the redirect. "Aftermarket" seems more directed to the domain biz; "Classifieds" is better known to end users.

Within the next few days, I'll be setting up a sales site just for .tel.

Hey! Those of us who regged .com domains based on .tel are engaging in "predictive domaining."

This can also be considered yet another example of engaging in "registrar enrichment".

Does anyone have comments on how this will affect domains in the .com with a "tel" prefix or suffix?

telauctions.com is a grea example

others could cover:

tel+nicekeyword.com
nicekeyword+tel.com
teldomain+tel.com
tel+teldomain.com

I grabbed the my dot-tel+tel.com as the web front-end for my dot-tel and am curious on others' thoughts.

I'm not sure if your question is regarding websites designed to support the .tel community, or to use .com variations as an alternative point of entry to the .tel?

I guess that's something people have needed to do for other TLDs in the past, but I really don't think it's necessary for .tel - it could even be counter-productive. Once a user has seen a .tel page then in future they'll remember what it means.. if you send users through to a .tel via a .com then you'll just undermine their attempts at understanding it and confuse them unnecessarily.

More so on the support side as oppsed to the alternate entry point.

Also in the domain marketplace though too so,

Will the value of dot-coms with a tel prefix or suffix start to gain momentum?

Will the success of dot-tel create new value in these dot-coms?

e.g. Would nyctel-dot-com potentially have more value now then pre-dot-tel?

Does anyone think that telsters should also consider registering the teldomain+tel.com if it's available?

Now we're really getting into the world of speculation ;)

Additionally, what are some people's thoughts on how a dot-com could compliment a dot-tel?

I, too, regged some corresponding .com domains, for example, writertel.com for writer.tel. It's not clear if the corresponding .com will even be necessary, but there are enough naysayers here that I thought it would be a good idea to have those corresponding .coms tucked into my account.

For here.tel, I was only able to snag here-tel.com. I also registered H-ere.com and HereInformation.com. I think it's inexpensive insurance.

For another name (which I'm not ready to reveal just yet), none of those kinds of options were available, but I actually got a pretty good domain related to it. Whether it will help remains to be seen.

At this point, I don't think it makes sense to pursue expensive aftermarket .dot coms to go with .tel domains.

A question for Justin Hayward.

As you can see, a few of us are in the process of setting up aftermarket sites. So my question is

Will resellers be able to use your various logos for their sites?

I, for one, will NOT be listing adult or obvious TM .tel domains.

(For personal reasons, I just choose not to get involved in the adult market).

Thanks!

I will create a new company using the .tel but what will best match:

1. name of company Tel
2. name of company Telecom
3. name of company Telecommunication

What does .tel stands for? didn't find on telnic.
