Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Hi.

I've bought the domain to develop not to resell but do you think it's a good one?

mortgagebroker.tel

the search volumes on google adwords show 550k searches in Feb for the words: mortgage broker

My maths make this 6.6m searches a year or 13 a minute.

I'm new to domain buying but I think this is a good one.

What do you think?

As Hasseily says above, people need to do as much to promote .Tel as they can themselves, and a good way to do this is put a link to the video on their own sites.

If Telnic's biggest argument over the usefulness of the .tel TLD is the video of how to catch a leggy blonde's attention on the train, then the project is already derailed.

I would therefore give an extremely strong caveat to anyone jumping in heavily and investing in this extension.

It's .mobi time, once again! LOL

Typing in HotelSuites.tel would be better than sifting through 17,100,000 search results [actual No. of competing sites on Google] on the web for the keyword phrase 'hotel suites'.

Nobody knows about .tel. The general public will type .com
Can you outrank a .com with your .tel for the same KEYWORD?

.tel me how you can do that with a domain that cannot be hosted. Have you looked at the source of a .tel's HTML? There is no doable SEO based on keywords!

See below:

Code:
  <base href="http://s1.webproxy.nic.tel:80/lookup.action" />
  <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" />
  <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache" />
  <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-store" />
  <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0" />
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

one thing I just thought of (I am sure it has been discussed before, but I haven't seen anything).
What about spammers? Isn't .tel a super easy way to get emails, cellphone numbers and even post addresses for sending spam? if now many contacts are not so easy findable by spam crawlers and can be hidden with [at] etc. isn't .tel a great way to browse through and gather contact info? :(

I'm sure you know that keywords exist in TXT records, and are obviously already included in the body of the web proxy page.

Why would introducing META tags bring any advantage? Isn't it superfluous? Unless search engines know about it then they might even penalise you for the repetition. There is also the issue of keeping the page as light as possible.

I am talking about BASIC meta tags, such as Keywords & Description. There are none.

Is .tel changing the SEO paradigm? They have to buy Google first.

You haven't answered the question - aren't those META tags you're suggesting superfluous for .tel domains? Please explain why they're needed.

I'm open minded about it, but I can't see any obvious advantages, and like I said you might even get penalised for the repetition of keywords - isn't this so?

Given that .tel is definitely not web-oriented I don't understand why some people are so concerned with SEO. Simply put, you should expect nothing. Consider yourself lucky if you are even indexed by google.
Take .tel for what it is, don't fool yourself with out-of-the-box thinking and 'what-if' considerations :lala:

May I suggest a minor revision?

That went on for a few days until one evening while at the dinner table, a woman asked her man:

"Why are you still hunting when you could be tilling the soil?"

And his response:

"You have plowed the fields, built the fences and made ready the earth to provide sustenance and strength for the seeds.

No doubt, the Ethers of Net have smiled upon us from on High!

Yet, to draw on the very life force of this clan, this proud people, this kingdom, this err... ah.. Domain, we have within our skills of magic and wizardry the ability to... automatically and effectively launch a secondary URL pop-under website when the Telnic servers detect a non-mobile device. Why is it that we do not use such special power?”

The woman gasped.

For a long moment, there was nothing but silence. Because the man had spoken in tongues, nobody understood a single word he had said.

Joining hands, they prayed for a good harvest and began to eat.

Sorry, to refer once again my dot tel.

As I checked now by typing "premium hit stuffs" in Google. My hit.tel is on top of the results.

Again when search for "simply hit generic domain". My hit.tel was in the second page.

Then, I tried to search a content like "rock music fashion laptop hit" or "great generic tel name" (just almost I have in content). The result is still in the second page.

BTW, I have no doubt that dot COM still better than all others in general point of views. But this is good enough for the world directory, IMO. :wave:

You are seriously asking whether these *necessary* keywords are needed?

Exactly what is your background? Penalized for using the norm?

What will the keywords be, the contact info in the .tel?

"premium hit stuffs" sounds like a real winner - 1 Google result and it's yours.

How many others type "premium hit stuffs" ?

Now, type "pills.tel" in Google. The #1 result is...eBay's auction of the pills.tel domain (apparently the owner is either nuts or he's doing the cheap promo trick as noone will pay $1,500,000 for that domain) and the next result down is my Acro.net blog post. Third in line is the actual pills.tel domain that you've typed in Google *with* its extension.

No hope.

Ladies and gentlemen, beyond the sarcasm, beyond the funny stories, beyond the cynicism or vitriol, it is people like YOU who invent new monetization techniques and new services, who are the tip of the marketing spear. We give you the muscle, the stance and the weapon, but you drive it home. If you want.

I admire the honesty of Telnic team. ;) Fans of .tel are expecting too much from them as well as from the extension, none of which is realistic.

I am asking 1) what are the benefits above and beyond the keywords in TXT records and the HTML page body, 2) whether you'd be penalised for including the same keywords found in the page body in keyword/description META tags?

I don't know the answer - I'm not an "SEO practitioner" like you. Why can't you sell your suggestion without being rude?

Presumably the same keywords that you've stored in the TXT records? Or are you suggesting different ones?

This is not SEO "alchemy". It's the basis of search engine placement. No description or keyword meta tags? No visibility.

If you perceived my response as rude, what can I say. You're here investing in .tel and you ignore basic search engine facts; yet try to appear convincing in a crowd of peer domainers?

That's the danger with TLD launches: the lemming effect.

Of course .tel fans expect too much. Because too much about .tel was not clearly revealed before the launch; a lot was based on pretty PR propaganda and sexy video commercials.

I will wait for the MySpace deal; then the fun begins.

I think acro.net blog post is doing better than pills.tel itself in terms of google ranking because you are able to utilize SEO on your wordpress.
Also, I don't think even pills.com is worth (or will not get) 1.5 million dollars.

I thought you guys purchased .tel name for
1) contact page
2) resell
3) monetize subdomains (not sure how realistic this is)

not for seo or development

Why are there so many demands?

There are scripts that are available on the net to use for some of the demands posted if you are to use other tlds. You just need to have your own hosting and be able to upload and install files.

Meta, Title Tags Necessary?

To answer your question Playpig, Placing your targeted keywords in the Header & meta tags will help the search engines both decipher and assign SEO value to your .Tel records.

As far as penalties are concerned, you should make sure that your keyword density and frequency does not exceed 1.5% in your txt records (including Title/Header, Meta, Tags) tags or else you could be penalized.

Let me know if I can help,

Search engines index entire pages, not just META tags. Construct some search queries that you know will yield some .tel domains that have keywords associated with them, and see what comes up in the summary. I can't see why search engines would need any META tag hints, and as somebody else has just commented, if you go above a certain keyword frequency then it may incur a penalty. Disagree with any of this?

The fact that you bought 7 (?) .tel domains yourself speaks volumes.

Good luck relying on 1 single page / template of .tel's 255 character "keywords". It takes dozens of pages and links to gain keyword relevancy and top placement.

I justified my purchases: trademark/domain(s)/last name & a couple of "lab test rabbits" plus a gift for my CPA. Nobody says "don't buy .tel". I'm only saying, don't expect the same use and results. Some say "Tel Sucks", others will say "Tel Rules" :) Heavy investing in this particular TLD is something I would not advise. Still, I publish the LLL .tel availability list at my forum, daily, for free. See? I am not the hardass biased jerk you perceive me to be :D

Thanks Hasseily for your reply, i appreciate you are listening to us all so much and thank you for your responses. I think were all frustrated at the same time with our registrars (dotster.. ahem in particular) for making it appear so complicated to get into our .tel control panels. We do have to remember that this has only been out a few days and that current problems will probably be sorted. It's in the registrars own interests to make it as easy as possible for the average joe to get cracking. Cheers again mate for all you are doing to help. Onward and upward as sir Jeff would say.

hasseily said:
Okay, okay. Seems like my storytelling skillz are unappreciated, lol.

Are you asking if we have designed a proper sales process flow for registrars? something maybe like
http://telnic.org/downloads/process.pdf
http://telnic.org/purchase-process/GA/0-purchase.html

Are you asking if I personally gave NINE 2-hour speeches in 4 days to all the registrars at ICANN Mexico to lead them through the proper sales process?

Are you asking if Justin, Ben & Co. have created a professional viral mass-market movie? (I don't think I need to link to the hypothetical movie, do I?)

Are you asking if we're going to provide a dedicated UI for .tel management, that we could hypothetically call "TelHosting"? Because really, Telnic should have known that registrars have a different business model and that it would take time for them to understand the .tel opportunity as well as be able to sell it to a completely new audience.

Are you asking if there actually are young people plowing the earth rather than going hunting? Hmm... *scratches stubble*... Someone like http://www.digitrad.com/ maybe?

Are you asking when there'll be a cool widget with through-the-roof conversion rates to sell .tels on your web properties? What if we could have the hypothetical funny movie in there as well? Surely Telnic must have done it! No, we didn't. Someone else did. http://visions.digitrad.com/

Are you asking when we'll start working on the mass market, perhaps at this address? http://myspace.webnames.ca Looks like some Canadians may have upgraded the harpoon to a scythe.

A galloping herd takes time to steer in another direction.

Ladies and gentlemen, beyond the sarcasm, beyond the funny stories, beyond the cynicism or vitriol, it is people like YOU who invent new monetization techniques and new services, who are the tip of the marketing spear.
