It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

Hi,bro!

New arrivals .Pro
legaladviser,medicaladviser and madicallawyer
Say what?

I would say that it's a little early for those particular two-word names in the Pro extension. Take a look at the list at the link below. You might find some good two-word names but they are rare at this point. Ex. WomensClothing.pro works pretty well.

But that's just my opinion. Someone else here might completely disagree. But check the list when you get a chance. On that same site you will find a good list of sold Pros and their selling prices.

interesting point that list is all single word domains. I've bought several, what I think are good domains like conferencecall.pro

When we start seing 2 word .pro sales then we know the extension has made it to the next level. I don't know why it won't since I really believe its a solid domain extension.

mailer.pro mailers.pro

couldn't pass em up and has some professional context. valuate.com put a 7 dollar ppc. on mailers which is fairly high...meaning i'll get .80 cents ppc if i'm lucky.

Sold Quick.pro for $2,250 on Sedo this week and picked up Drum.pro to add to Piano.pro, Guitar.pro, and Violin.pro.

Total .pros registered in June 2011, excluding the Hostway zip code .pros, were up 1.9% to 67,116.

Average daily WHOIS searches rose by 6.8% in June 2011 to 31,482. Average daily WHOIS searches have now exceeded the relaunch month of September 2009 for the last 3 months.

Amen Mr. K !!! Actually I own quite a few two-word Pros but I bought them based on high search numbers. The 15 listed below range from 140,000 to 5,000,000 searches. But high search numbers don't always equate to good names. I have another 10 to 15 that get less than 100,000 but the words work so well together I couldn't pass them up ... SnowSkiing.pro and PeanutButter.pro for example. If I could afford to hold out for end-user sales, I would. But if speculators start making offers at reseller prices I'll be selling.

NOW ... let the beatings commence !!!

AMUSEMENTPARK.PRO
BIGFOOT.PRO
CIVILWAR.PRO
CLASSICCAR.PRO
CLASSICCARS.PRO
CUSTOMERSERVICE.PRO
FREEDOWNLOAD.PRO
OILCHANGE.PRO
SOCCERBALL.PRO
SOCCEREQUIPMENT.PRO
SOCCERSHOES.PRO
SPORTFISHING.PRO
SWIMWEAR.PRO
WEDDINGINVITATIONS.PRO
WOMENSCLOTHING.PRO

Nice work AK. Congratulations !!!

Question. When we see average daily WHOIS searches over 30,000 the first thing that occurs to me is that if that many people are checking .pro whois data, why aren't we seeing more registrations? Who are these people? Where are they from? What do they want? {:~ ]

Can you, or anyone, make some sense of that?

Good link regarding ICANN expansion. Posted by RevolutionaryDomains last week.

A few excerpts ...

Retailers Seek Delay in Expansion of Internet Naming System

Icann has managed the Internet’s address system since 1998 under a Commerce Department contract that is set to expire in March. The Marina del Rey, California-based group oversees 22 generic top-level domains, known as gTLDs, including the .com, .org and .net suffixes, which together account for almost 120 million Internet addresses.

The Web-suffix expansion has been attacked by trade groups representing large corporations and advertisers that say the change offers few benefits while increasing business’ costs. For retailers, the changes raise a wide range of legal issues and brand identity concerns, Duncan said.

“While no doubt some industry sectors will make money, most will suffer enormous costs that far outweigh the gains,” wrote Liodice, whose group represents more than 400 companies including Apple Inc. and General Motors Co.

Charles, if you read anymore on the potential delay in release in new extensions keep posting. That is excellent news to provide more time to see more growth in .pro

As if it was going to make .pro mainstream
Do you really need another 10 years to realize it is already a failed extension... :|

Please explain what makes a failure. I'd agree more with you if the registrants were declining., but this extension is slowly growing its registrant body each month.

Yes, many of the other extensions like .co and .me get more publicity and are being adopted quicker. Also, .pro is still in business. Again, you would have to provide a better definition of the word failure.

I'm going to agree with webdomain here, among all the gTLDs that are not 'mainstream' yet, I think .PRO has the best chance of growth.

Yes it's been slow and steady, but even .com took 15 years to really take off.

And with 500-1000 new extensions, the .com mindset is going to change, maybe slowly, but surely.

After all, look at today's sale of local.ly for 100k, might not make sense to you or me to invest at that level, but all it requires is one end user to see the value.

Plus when these 'new' extensions are at domain 0, .pro is already at 100k.

Yes you are right. Slowly. That's the problem.

To begin with, there is hardly any extension that is not growing. The 'popular' extensions are growing at a much faster pace, so the gap is widening. The result is that .pro is not catching up, it's becoming more marginal every day. Honestly, do you think the .pro TLD is significantly more famous or established than it was 10 years ago. Let me put it bluntly, it is sinking :guilty:

The .pro stats are also warped by the fact that half of the registrations are in the hand of a single entity. I don't know of any other such example in another extension. It's not that important actually, 50K or 100K is still a very low number.

I'm going to agree with webdomain here, among all the gTLDs that are not 'mainstream' yet, I think .PRO has the best chance of growth.
Give me one reason, because the 10 past years have not been encouraging at all and it's not like anything has changed in the meantime:
  • nobody has ever heard about .pro
  • the registry doesn't seem to be doing anything to promote it
  • it's not carried by the mainstream registrars
  • zero mindshare
  • no notable development
Yet other extensions like .me .co .mobi have outperformed .pro very quickly so it's not like the climate is unfit for new extensions. .pro just doesn't fit in.
Perhaps it is a fetish thing among domainers. Personally I like .us but I'm not kidding myself about its value as an investment.
Being pro-.pro is okay but that shouldn't be at the expense of rational thinking.

Yes it's been slow and steady, but even .com took 15 years to really take off.
No, 1985 is not the baseline. The growth really started circa 1993 with the WWW and .com established itself very quickly.
It didn't take 15 years for .com to 'take off'.

Plus when these 'new' extensions are at domain 0, .pro is already at 100k.
100K is nothing. That number can easily be attained in a landrush. Even an utter 'failure' like .tel is triple of that.
Clever marketing can make the difference too.
We have the proof with .co that is already past 1M in a year. .mobi too.

The reason why I'm posting this is, I really think domainers need a reality check.

I've said it's not mainstream, yet, in my post.

But do you really think restrictions will stand in a post new gtld world?

And if they don't, I believe that .pro will have a better chance of getting pushed past tipping point than a brand new gtld.

Obviously some better marketed extensions would get more traction in terms of initial registrations.

But you seriously think you could get a look in on the top 2k keywords in any of these better marketed extensions without 'connections'?

You can't be that naive, not in this business, not in any business.

Domains.ly owns most 'premium' .ly domains, guess they were very 'lucky'. :p

And tbh, I don't really care whether an extension as a whole does well or not, just that my domains sell for as many multiples as possible.

So I get keywords that would actually benefit a company with development and my .pro set comes up trumps there.

Think this is the only question an investor needs to answer... what's my upside and is the amount I'm risking going to be worth it?
