How will enterprises like the new gTLD domain names? In the thread I post several days ago, I talked about the new gTLD of .news. I received some feedbacks asking me if I was writing advertorial for the new gTLD cause a lot of people think that the new gTLDs are just useless domain names. To clarify, I just provide a new prospect of the domain name trend. I am not saying that everybody shall add some .news domain names to their portfolio and they are surely to make a good fortune on it.

Except for investing, the main purpose of this kind of domain names is for building websites. If the end users see the uniqueness and are interested in the domain, they may enrich the value of the domain name with their own value. What if the three letters I-B-M do not happen to be the name of a big company? Then ibm.com might only worth $25k-$30k at this moment. Not every enterprise will buy a .new or a .love domain name for their brand, but some did it. Only for the potential buyers, the domain names have special value.

Again, this post is not a manual to get rich, but is just a report telling you what is happening in the market.

Smartisan is an original mobile phone brand in China. In the August last year, on the news conference of the launch of new product from Smartisan Technolgy, the CEO Luo announced the establishment of Smartisan Charity. Since the smartisan.org had been already taken by someone else, Smartisan decided to register the domain name smartisan.love for the website of Smartisan Charity.

Smartisan always put great effort on Domain names. If you are a big fan of Luo, you must know the domain name T.TT. Try this domain name on your computer and you will see the official website of smartisan.com. It is said Smartisan spent a lot on the acquisition of T.TT. Since the logo of Smartisan looks like the letter T, all the series of the products will be name after T1, T2. So T.TT is now visualized as a symbol of this brand.

This time Luo hope to establish a charity funds at Smartisan. As a public welfare project, Smartisan Charity did not plan to spend a lot of money on buying the domain name. The new gTLD .love was newly open to register and they soon took the smartisan.love. We have to say a .love domain name is really suitable for the charity website.

Your .news thread didn't really seem to have a point that we could see besides... Hey .news is great.
In this thread you at least ask us about the end users use of new gltds.

Most companies already established, will only buy a new gtld to cover their butt and not have to sue a cyber squatter. Only the very, very best keyword gltds will get developed by non established companies. Companies already have a .com and they will point the new gtld to their .com

It will be a very long time before a startup will pay the crazy prices being asked for some of the premium gtld domains.

Startups don't have the cash in the beginning to put into a domain. I see them going more for made up brandible .com over an expensive gtld.

Plus read my thread I started about Donuts INC and regulations. They seem to be against outside regulations. That will scare any new startup from investing in a new gtld.

Why spend $1000's to $100,000 on any new GTLD when you can get a LLLL.com for less than $3000 in most cases.

End users look at it like they will only create traffic and business for the .com
New gtlds are being marketed to domainers not end users. Domainers make up probably 90 to 99.9% of all new gtld sales and new gtld registrations.

End users prefer .com and will for a very very very looong time.

Everyday I read news about Internet startups founded in different parts of the world and most of them choose to build their corporate website on .com. While I see .com being used as the corporate anchor, I also see many gTLDs play a nice supporting role. They can be effective tools for use in marketing.

For example,

Amazon.com
Amazon.christmas (redirects to Christmas store page on Amazon.com)
Amazon.news (redirects to news app page on Amazon.com

The left and right sides flow well and have the right order semantically. In fact, I see .brand such as .amazon in the wrong order. Consumers tend to start with a brand and then follow with a product name etc. Example. Amazon books, Amazon music, etc no the other way round.

For example,

Amazon.com
Amazon.christmas (redirects to Christmas store page on Amazon.com)
Amazon.news (redirects to news app page on Amazon.com

Boy that seems useful!
You can just go to their christmas store from their homepage.
You can just go to their news app from their homepage.
Amazon.com will never redirect to amazon.christmas or .news

who would type-in amazon.christmas before they type-in amazon.com. Specially if it just redirects you to their .com
The search predict just says amazon when I start to type it into the search bar. It doesn't even give the .com

Amazon might own it for a marketing toy/ploy.
Is there a .xmas that's faster to type in plus it plays into the double pointlessness of gltds like .pic and .picture
.pictures .cam .camera .camers
