do any of you domainers actually feel like a-holes for buying all these domain names, oversaturating the market, not developing them, and then going on sedo, and asking rediculous amounts for them?

I really hope the main domain registrys get new laws passed to close the lid on buying domains so easily. Especially on "grace periods". I'm personally tired of all these websites that are parked pages and full of spam...

I think all these .in / .bz / .blah blah blah type extensions need to die also.

Free markets don't always produce great results, but...
...the alternatives (excess laws and regulations) are often much worse.

Quite frankly, I think your being a bit ridiculous. Things change and so will the domain industry. Parking wont be what it used to be, but new ideas and content generators will be created. Choosing this as a profession or hobby shouldnt make anyone feel like an "a-hole". As a matter of fact many domainers see domains as a solid investment, considering the growth of the internet and I dont see that stopping anytime soon.

do any of you land owners actually feel like a-holes for buying all these parcels of land, oversaturating the market, not developing them, and then going to auction or to a developer, and asking rediculous amounts for them?

I really hope the main land holders get new laws passed to close the lid on buying land so easily. Especially on "renters". I'm personally tired of all these open parcels of land that are small strawberry farms or some other small business until they are developed or sold to someone whith the time/money to develop...

I think all these developing countries with new periods of growth need to die also.

Not to crazy if applied to the real world, eh?

Domaining as we know it may well be over soon with the way the industry is headed...but for now we will continue to clutter the internet with ads and crap landing pages to be able to put food on the table for our starving families.

I didn't say I was exempt from being an a-hole. =)

My problem is that I'm looking for a domain I really like, but all the ones I like happen to be taken, and are parked crappy pages set up by domainers. So I've registered a few names to try to see if their were worth anything, but I didn't really love them enough. So I used my grace period on them.

I agree...

Do you think all of the people who bought land when it was still relatively cheap thought of themselves as "a-holes"? They were smart enough to realize that was an opportunity for them. Granted, there are some really stupid people out there...and some of them happen to be domaining. You know that guy who hand regs www.thisdomainnameisstupid.com and then asks $50,000 for it on Sedo - just stupid. Those people won't get far in life no matter what they try to do because they just don't get that the world runs on supply and demand and there will always be a demand for premium "web estate" (and never a demand for their digital garbage) :imho:

What are you looking for a domain for ? If it is to develop you can develop anything and brand it. Sure you are not going to get a one word keyword.com, so be creative use a second word or number to make your site and brand stand out. If you cannot get cars.com but have great content and a great user experience on SuperDuperCars.com people will come back and they will remember the funny name super duper. Now there will be no type in traffic but who cares if you wanted a domain on a specific keyword that you wanted for development. Just be creative if it is about development. If you are looking for an asset such as cars.com then you have to pay for the asset.

I'm looking for a two word chat and search domain.

XChat.com

Xsearch.com

Looking to develop both. But most good words are taken for them. So you're right I have to be more creative with the spelling...
