What does everyone think the domain market will be like in 2010? What will be the hottest properties & other tld's besides .com? Will parking still be popular or will most of the domains be developed websites by then? whatever you imagine it will be like, tell us how you envision the future in 2.5 years...

If something like this is to be reality, I'd say software programs will be able to intelligently (unlike current programs) copy what they (or you) come across on the internet and develop pages which provide relevant content that attracts users and keeps them coming back. Stuff like this (perhaps a few more years off) will certainly continue to increase the value of quality dotcoms.

I'm a big fan of cctlds, and I think we'll see many of them getting stronger -- notably, .ca, .cn, .in, .cc.

I've heard that all future computers will be made to go to .com automatically, So if you type in loan, cars, shampoo, digitalCameras etc into your browser you won't have to enter the extension.

Dn...isn't that what used to happen but doesn't anymore?

I do think that .com will remain king, and perhaps by even more, like a precious collectable that becomes more and more rare. (And as the majority of Fortune 1000 companies use .coms, it will never lose its luster as the WAY preferred tld)

I do agree re: cctlds. And (this ought to be fun) I think .info, .mobi, and .biz may suffer as cctlds gain.

.us is a wildcard - is godaddy's new venture really just designed to excite domainers and lead to morer regs and speculative buys, or will it actually lead to increasing the value of the ext?

Agreed. Using one's ccTLD is a logical way for a business to deliver their message to their local market.

I'd like to add .US to that list of up and coming ccTLDs.

The US has a 300 million population and only 1.3 million .US names registered. We should find out soon if the US Dept. of Commerce lets Neustar to continue running the .US registry or if GoDaddy/Afilias partnership gets the torch passed to them. If GoDaddy gets their marketing power behind it - watch out!

Would be nice to follow in the footsteps of .de, .co.uk. and .ca for example.

You beat me to the punch.

No need to suffer. There is plenty of room for many different TLDs in meny segments. It is not a static internet pie. It is growing and fast. The mobile web space is the new frontier.

GoDaddy is not only a good marketer but also a good provider of services per my experience of them over the years.
Greater exposure = more regs = move value of the better already-registered names.

That could happen only if they'll decide to open 1st level domains to the public. And if that moment comes, it would be the greatest landrush of all time, while all our domains will become pretty much worthless :)
I'd be the first in line for http://shop/ :P

Firefox already is doing this somewhat, but I think it has to do with your google pr.. try typing "drugs" or "domains" or "cars" in your ff browser and it will take you to the respective .com. In some cases it will point you to the largest website with that keyword.. I was happy to see that one of my (and partners) websites pokerblogger(.)com is brought up by typing pokerblogger in to ff browser :tu:

As far as my thoughts on the future domain market.

(1) .com 1, 2 and even some 3 word generics continue to soar.

(2) As more people see the importance of keywords. keywords in all gTLD's soar, Example: Keyword in these extensions .com,net,org,us,biz,info,Mobi,Tv,name, become highly sought after.

(3) I sell my names.

(4) Very Shortly after the world ends and it all means nothing.

- Mobile web use grows and exceeds web use from home
(People would want .com sites similar to web experience at home)

- Country codes use rise everywhere else except in the US
(India, China will be key areas of growth....India could end up with 100 million users and second largest english language users on the web)

- Owners of domain name portfolios in niche areas become known as Visionaries

i like to hear that DNProperty.com,

- about mobile webs -> ive got some .mobi, basically geo names and related to it

- im not in the .in, .cn (i think u have to know the language) and i cant be in the .us cuz i dont live in usa

- beside .mobi i own some LLLL.com and a few L-L-L.com that i think will have a great market (especially LLLL.com)

The domain market will be similar to today, plus having a few more TLDs to choose from... and prices across the board, with limited exceptions, will be even higher than now.

Things rarely change as fast as people think...

1st level domains aren't happening ever - to do so would break a lot of things, require massive policy changes, result in loss of identity / control by the various entities, such as countries, of their TLD(s), etc.

It's exciting to think about the future....

It's my wish that the various Domain AUCTION events and services - increase sales opportunities for sellers... and have easier ways of submission... with less hold-lockdown time... perhaps a 30 day max - if one is required at all...

to have a drop scan program that remembers ones you mark...
and then uses that to formulate a search based on those words for
other drop lists - for a QUICK search of words it learnt you liked...
I know there are programs you can pre-put your keywords in...
that's not what I am referring to... my interests grow... and I want
the software to move right along with me and learn (remember) the
words I go for... and create a db of keywords for me (that is editable)
- - - this is more a software request - than future of domains...
but... since it is used SOLEY for domain name hunts - sorta the same...
LOL

I'd like to see a service - that hunts out the buyers for sellers...
and contacts the potential buyer... or provides you with their contact
information... example a domain name such as PorterhouseSteaks.com
the company would find - BIG meat companies etc... and provide you
with a list of those with up to date contact details... at a reasonable cost...
such as 25 contacts for $25. etc...

although... I no longer own PorterhouseSteaks.com just sold it for $2,950.
but still used it as an example... (smile)

I love to think about the futur but 2010 is a pretty near future so I don't see things changing too much.

~I know that .com will still be the most popular ext.

~I am fairly certain that there will be ALOT more domainers in 2.5 years, hence the value of statistically rare/collectable DNs such as; CCC.coms, C-C.coms, LLLL.coms, NNNN.coms, N--N.coms, L--L.coms, VCVC.coms, CVCV.coms, CVCVC.coms, VCVCV.coms, etc..etc..etc..etc.............WILL INCREASE!

~I am fairly certain that 1, 2 and 3 word keyword domain names will increase in value!

~And the common public will have a greater awarness of domain names and the ext's in general.

~Ohh and I'll be selling alot more names and making alot more money:)

~Also, on my CPU with IE7 I can type a name in the browser press CTRL+Enter and it will take me to the .com !

this is all very interesting.. as for this:

I've heard that all future computers will be made to go to .com automatically, So if you type in loan, cars, shampoo, digitalCameras etc into your browser you won't have to enter the extension

as nicedomains said, this is already happening in some browsers plus in IE you can just enter "whatever" in the tool bar & press cntrl-enter & it takes you to the dot com and I have been doing this for at least 4 years, my friends always think it is cool when I show them that... I'm sure that I have been taken to the dot com as well even without pressing cntrl-enter ?...

the super pc sounds great, we really need that...

As more people see the importance of keywords. keywords in all gTLD's soar, Example: Keyword in these extensions .com,net,org,us,biz,info,Mobi,Tv,name, become highly sought after.
i agree plus many other extensions

Things rarely change as fast as people think...
that's true, maybe a lot of these thoughts mentioned here won't happen until 2012-8.

By 2010 I will sell InformationBeam.com to microsoft for $10,000,000 and computers will be empty. Everything on the web will then be somewhere in the "Information Beam" and all other domains with their extensions will be worthless as humans will simply need to speak into the "beam" and just like that, they are at their destination.

And maybe, just maybe, by 2010 I'll wake up :imho: :hehe:
