Hi,
I am kind of new to selling domain names and wanted to have some discussions surrounding this.
I started selling names about 3 months back and so far have sold about 18 names. I noticed a few things, which raised my curiosity. Some of the domain names which i sold had good PR, DA and decent age. But some of the other names which i sold were hand registered a few days back.

So my question is what sort of domain charateristics are highly sought out in the aftermarket. Is it the age of the domain or DA or Links or PR.

Some of my sales make absolute no sense. So i was wondering if some of the experts here could give their valuable opinion.

It sounds like you have a talent for picking names others want.

given you have success with both why not continue doing both?

PR names will always sell (given its legit), but if you have a talent at hand regging names that you sell def contiue that too (unless if you need to reg 500 names to sell 1)

PR is lost in the next Google update for a domain which has been sold to another person/company. So I don't fully understand why the PR is so sought after, unless the new buyer is going to painstakingly recreate each page of the previous website.

Good quality backlinks are always sought after.

I concur with McDuke. Keep doing whatever works for yourself.

Umm, for those who don't know, in 2017 PR will cease to exist, the patent will expire. After that the PR algo will be available for the general public, rendering it useless: http://www.seroundtable.com/pagerank-patent-12731.html

So, if you're planning on selling domains only for their PR, do it fast because if that's the only value a domain you own has, soon it will be worthless.

Interesting post

1) A patent expiring does not make the underlying product or service "useless".

2) How google calculates PR today vs. when they filed is obviously an entire different system, so it doesn't matter what expires / becomes public.

3) PR as is means less and less, not to long ago anything that dropped with PR was snapped up regardless of the domain, now plenty stay available. Even many with some backlinks are not snapped up right away. Those who truly follow googles changes understand what does and doesn't matter, the rest are busy wasting incredible time and money.

I do agree with you that if someone is sitting on PR5+ names they are better off selling sooner rather than later as the smart money is starting to figure things out especially after the last 2 google updates.
