The appraisal scam....again. -Name Investment Boutique LLC-Brand Domain Name Services

My suggestion is that Namepros file a UDRP dispute as hes using your name in bad faith, amongst other illegal things.

From: "George Petersen" [email protected]

I'm thinking about 60,000 - 80,000 USD for your domain. What do you think
about this price range?

Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain
appraisals. Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very
important for me in terms of reselling too. But we must engage a valuation
company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from
independent sources I and my partners trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal
companies. Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and
buyers:
thenamepros.com/Archive/62931485.htm

Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?

Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.
If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price
accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15%
discount.

After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to
obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.

What is your preferred payment method: Escrow.com, International wire
transfer, PayPal.com or something else?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You can also contact me and update me on new emails and domains used for this scam, I have a dedicated blog post on this for 2012.

Ask them to pay you for the appraisal, and you'll order it for them.

how sad I did not find this thread earlier

I already made an order for 19 domain appraisals to domain-cost.com because, like others, I was asked for this by Daniel Zuckerman.

I really hope SWREG will give my money back.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why swreg is continuing to do payments to a company which had a lot of scams complaints...

•••
Well more people need to complain, than swreg will take notice.
Somebody has to take the time to actually explain it's not a legitimate service dealing with just a few unhappy customers (which can and does happen to all merchants).

1
•••
Fortunately SWREG gave me refund!...

But do you know what? The scammer insisted he is doing a right business... I asked him to prove he is CEO of the company and he get pissed off.

Ugly business...I hope that someday, in jail, they will have time to find good domain AVAILABLE names and no longer try to "buy" them from others (of course, after asking for appraisals)

Glad to hear you received a refund :)

The scammer replied to you? Most times when I receive these scam emails, I send the scammer a reply, refusing to sell to them (I usually say, "Sorry. I don't deal with cam artists"). I never receive a reply :p

I just got hit by this scam today.

First email from him -

From: Bernard Alterman - [email protected]

Date: Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 12:31 AM

Hello!

We are interested in purchasing xxxxxx.com. I noticed that you currently sell this domain. Please respond with a desired price in the subject.

Our company is investing in domains and web projects. If you have other names for sale please email me your domain list with prices.

Best Regards,

Bernard Alterman

President

Second email from him -

Date: Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 11:25 AM

How about 15000 usd?

Best Regards,

Bernard Alterman

President

(He included a picture of a well dressed businessman)

Third email from him -

I understand your position but I still need the appraisal. My lawyer
strongly suggested me not to proceed without the appraisal from
domain-cost.com. They verify all possible trademark risks and provide a
reasonable valuation service.

Best Regards,

Bernard Alterman

President

I emailed back, No thank you.

If it looks to good to be true, then it usually is.

I don't understand why everyone thinks you have to own
a name to get an appraisal. TELL ANYONE that wants an
appraisal .... GO GET ONE! Go pay for an appraisal any
place you want. YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION! :P

Thank you for saving me money. I am a complete newbie to the domain market, but thankfully I was not fooled by "Bernard Alterman". We emailed back and forth 3 or 4 times until I found this post. He continued to tell me to get the domains appraised. I suggested he get them appraised and his excuse was only the owners can get domains appraised. So, I replied with:

Here is a link to an appraisal from http://www.Domain-Cost.com:

http://no_url_shorteners/HBoXtL (This link comes to this post)

Thank you once again for this post.

I got one today from David Bortman, he said:

I'm very interested in purchasing yourdomaindotcom.

I found this domain listed for sale on Sedo.

Please respond with a desired price for your domain in the subject (in USD, Euros or UK pounds).

If you have other names for sale please email me your domain list with prices.

I told him the price that it is listed for and gave him a list of other domains that were on sale and prices and some without prices that I haven't put up for sale yet.

His reply was

$500. Ok. I'm also interested in
blahblahdotinfo $999
blahblahdotinfo $899
What are your payment details? If this is your first time domain sale I may help you with the process.

Are you a member of domain seller communities/forums? Probably we know each other under some nicknames?

Best regards,
Bortman
CEO

I got suspicious at him trying to find out if I was new to domain selling and if I am a member of a domain seller forum. Also it looks as if he is trying to bypass Sedo which tells me that he could be trying to scam me out of the domains.

I told him that if he wants them to make offers where I have them listed. If he tries the appraisal scam I will tell him to pay the fees himself.

One good thing came from it, I found this forum.

I keep getting emails from some chick ............Stefanie Shay

Seems to be another appraisal scheme, maybe already mentioned here ?

•••
There must actually be some money in this since the scam goes on and on, yes?

We only ever hear about the people who did not get scammed, but there must actually be some takers as well, otherwise the scammers wouldn't bother with it.

I remember I was scammed by same person in 2002 or 2003. I paid approx $60 for an appraisal & $60 for replying to domain wanted ads!! ( I was a newbie at that time )

His old website was FastDomainSales.com or similar.
This 90% matches to http://www.domain-cost.com/

So he keep on spamming for decades.

But he is in USA and I sent him a check that day.

Domain Name: DOMAIN-COST.COM

There have been victims who have admitted being scammed. A few posts at least here on Namepros about it!
