The appraisal scam....again. -Name Investment Boutique LLC-Brand Domain Name Services

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
My suggestion is that Namepros file a UDRP dispute as hes using your name in bad faith, amongst other illegal things.

From: "George Petersen" [email protected]

I'm thinking about 60,000 - 80,000 USD for your domain. What do you think
about this price range?

Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain
appraisals. Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very
important for me in terms of reselling too. But we must engage a valuation
company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from
independent sources I and my partners trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal
companies. Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and
buyers:
thenamepros.com/Archive/62931485.htm

Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?

Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.
If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price
accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15%
discount.

After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to
obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.

What is your preferred payment method: Escrow.com, International wire
transfer, PayPal.com or something else?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You can also contact me and update me on new emails and domains used for this scam, I have a dedicated blog post on this for 2012.

Fortunately SWREG gave me refund!...

But do you know what? The scammer insisted he is doing a right business... I asked him to prove he is CEO of the company and he get pissed off.

Ugly business...I hope that someday, in jail, they will have time to find good domain AVAILABLE names and no longer try to "buy" them from others (of course, after asking for appraisals)

I just fell for this scam.

New name is
Abram Gendelman

I sent a request to SWReg for a refund linking them with proof of emails and this thread. Will I get a full refund?

If you used a Credit Card or Paypal you might try calling Customer Service to request a chargeback.

Too bad, thought I would be making a nice sale on a domain that I didn't care to develop when I found this in my mailbox this morning. Luckily I'm somewhat suspicious of nature, found this topic and never got past his first mail.

Thanks for making this topic! He changed names again, here goes:

Hello,

I noticed that you currently sell the domain in the subject line (correct?). Please respond with a desired price in the subject (in USD, Euros or UK pounds).

If you have other names for sale please email me your domain list with prices.

This bullshit is making me angry just thinking about it... He's just grinding through all whois records in a shameless fashion. Luckily he's a very poor script kiddie as in that he can not make realistic looking mail bodies apparently.

The fact that they don't change the domain name much, seems to indicate people are still falling for it at large? How very sad.

Again a different name. Just happened to remember this thread and Googled it. I guess a lot of newbies probably fall for this, since they seem to be running from the same domain for so long.

Yes, do file a complaint and get your money back.
Explain the whole scam to SWREG and link to this thread.
With enough complaints the scammers will lose their payment processing facilities and it will make things more difficult to them.

1
•••
Ask them to pay you for the appraisal, and you'll order it for them.

•••
Well more people need to complain, than swreg will take notice.
Somebody has to take the time to actually explain it's not a legitimate service dealing with just a few unhappy customers (which can and does happen to all merchants).

I don't understand why everyone thinks you have to own
a name to get an appraisal. TELL ANYONE that wants an
appraisal .... GO GET ONE! Go pay for an appraisal any
place you want. YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION! :P

Thank you for saving me money. I am a complete newbie to the domain market, but thankfully I was not fooled by "Bernard Alterman". We emailed back and forth 3 or 4 times until I found this post. He continued to tell me to get the domains appraised. I suggested he get them appraised and his excuse was only the owners can get domains appraised. So, I replied with:

Here is a link to an appraisal from http://www.Domain-Cost.com:

Thank you once again for this post.

I got one today from David Bortman, he said:

I'm very interested in purchasing yourdomaindotcom.

I found this domain listed for sale on Sedo.

Please respond with a desired price for your domain in the subject (in USD, Euros or UK pounds).

If you have other names for sale please email me your domain list with prices.

I told him the price that it is listed for and gave him a list of other domains that were on sale and prices and some without prices that I haven't put up for sale yet.

His reply was

$500. Ok. I'm also interested in
blahblahdotinfo $999
blahblahdotinfo $899
What are your payment details? If this is your first time domain sale I may help you with the process.

Are you a member of domain seller communities/forums? Probably we know each other under some nicknames?

Best regards,
Bortman
CEO

I got suspicious at him trying to find out if I was new to domain selling and if I am a member of a domain seller forum. Also it looks as if he is trying to bypass Sedo which tells me that he could be trying to scam me out of the domains.

I told him that if he wants them to make offers where I have them listed. If he tries the appraisal scam I will tell him to pay the fees himself.

One good thing came from it, I found this forum.

Yep I got the same one too. Thought it was legit at first and responded. We have been back and forth now for 2 days. This guy is better then ones I have seen before. Not as many obvious red flags and better language. I am still going back and forth now just to screw with him like he likes to do to everyone else. Then I am going to write a complaint to GoDaddy for hosting a scammer.

Why do you stand by and allow this guy to use the forums good name for his business scam?

Seriously?

appraisal scam

Hello,

last week I got email from a Marc Lorenz from Brand Name Services LLC. He asked for one of my domains, and then that he needs an appraisal before buying. So I did at one of the suggested appraisal services and sent him back the price. But unfortunately his client is ...
So I got sceptical and googled him and his company and found this community namepros.com.
And learned about appraisal scam.
When I asked SWREG for a refund , I got email from Martin Anderson from certifieddomainvalue.com, that there is no refund and that they did a good job, and citates some pleased Phillip. In this forum one can see this is a frequent answer by Mr. Anderson to anyone who claims a refund.
I recommend this post to any victim of this fraud:[namepros.com/639974-another-scam-letter-elite-investment-group-5.html#post3865457

Thanks
